I knew my mother would come into this.
Everyone stared at Daisy in shock. The fact that she suddenly announced our unplanned trip to China seemed more shocking than Daisy revealing that my mum was partners with that evil murderer who killed people (I mean, that's what murderers do)just so she could get more money. It was even more important, as James seemed to regard it, getting interrupted while eating a blueberry.
"You just made me drop my blueberry!" James said angrily; he immediately ducked under the table to fetch it and came back up with a gooey mess.
"Shut up," said Lavinia rudely. "No one cares about your pet blueberry." She then turned her eyes on us. "Why not let us come along?" she asked, with the same tone as James.
There was silence. "It's got to be us," said Daisy, her big blue eyes staring hard into Lavinia's brown ones. And there was silence again. I could see Alexander still glancing madly at Daisy, but Daisy did not seem to care at all. She flicked her braids and now stared at James, who was now accusing each of us of stepping on 'Bluey the blueberry'.
"James, stop accusing everyone," sniffed Daisy. James dropped his gaze.
"Sorry folks," he said. "But how the heck are you supposed to go to China. Without your guardian." We had now arrived on the subject of parents.
"Well, hopefully my dad doesn't hear about me coming," I piped up.
"And mine," said Daisy dismissively. "Can live without me for a month, I'm sure."
"The news will come big though," I added.
"That's why the sooner the better," Daisy said.
