you eventually left the miya's house after you had beat atsumu in multiple rounds of mario kart, despite him trying to cheat.

osamu actually hadn't noticed until an hour later. he texted you;

where the fuck are you?

to which you told him that you had left. you had even walked into to his room to say bye, all he did was hum and that was that.

"hey, why did you leave?" osamu walked up to you the next day at school.

you jumped, slightly startled by the voice, though you knew who it was. osamu sat across from you at the round picnic table.

"atsumu wanted onigiri after."

"onigiri!? you guys went for onigiri.. without me??" his eyes went wide at the mention of his favorite food.

you scowled, "he insisted it was his payment for playing with me.. i'm pretty sure he left some for you."

the boy sighed, fiddling with the holes in the bench, "sorry." it was a low mumble, barely audible, but you caught it.

"for what?"

he let out another weary sigh, "i'm sorry i was busy yesterday."

you offered a sympathetic smile, "don't be. you know better than that 'samu, you don't have to apologize for things like that."

osamu returned the smile before going on a rant about how hard his homework was and how horrible his teacher was.

of course you went along with it, you didn't like your guys' teacher either.

eventually the sound of the bell ringing pulled you out of your heated shit-talking sesh. you and your friend dragged yourself through the corridors and to your class.

-

"what grade did you get?"

osamu leaned over your desk, making you coil away and hide your paper from him.

he rolled his eyes at your reaction, "c'mon, tell me what you got."

you sighed, taking a peek at your paper again, as if to see if maybe it had magically changed, "fine. promise you won't make fun?"

a smile cracked his normally stoic features, "who do you think i am?"

"promise," you repeated, but he shrugged. his answer did not reassure you in the slightest.

"no promises," he told you.

with a scowl you showed him the paper. osamu's eyes widened.

"holy shit, y/n. a 'd'? what happened?"

"i don't know!" you whined, slumping in your seat, and hiding in your arms. your head was down but you could hear the small laughter coming from your friend.

you brought your head back up, glaring at him, but that only seemed to amuse him even more.

"i'm not even that bad."

"let me see what you got then, asshole."

he smiled at the affectionate nickname, flipping his paper over to show you his score. you instantly regretted asking.

osamu got a higher score than you, of course. a mere c, but it was still better than a d.

math was not your strongest subject.

"should i tell your mom?"

"no, please!" you shot up, shaking your head. "my mom will kill me. she'll force me to get a tutor. she was already talking about it."

osamu laughed, "jesus, calm down, y/n. you know i wouldn't snitch on you like that. but you do need to get your grade up."

that was probably something he would do, but you didn't say that, otherwise he actually would just to get back at you. usual best friend stuff.

"what do i do?"

"don't ask me, i barely got a passing grade."

you groaned.

-

later after you got home you realized that it wouldn't have mattered if osamu really did decide to tell your mom.

the school had given her a call, informing her of the fact that you were on the verge of a failing that class.

you had, roughly, a 1 hour lecture about the importance of school and what not, but you tuned most of it out.

that was until she said something that quickly brought you out of your thoughts.

"i was talking to the miyas the other day. turns out atsumu is pretty smart, and he's offered to tutor you."

"wait - what?"

"yes. you'll be going over to theirs after school."

"what - mom-"

"it's non-negotiable."

you didn't know what else to say. you wanted to argue that you didn't need tutoring, but clearly you did.

so you left it that. you sighed once your mom had made her way out of your room. damn you and your cruddy ability to do math.
