it was around seven when you finally decided to head home. your tutoring session had ended two hours ago, but you stayed late since atsumu insisted on playing video games.

"can i walk you home?"

you raised your brows at the question.

"walk? we're not driving back?"

atsumu shrugged. "my mom is taking a power nap right now. we can wake her up if you want."

you didn't want to wake her. you'd seen your mom destress with small naps. she would only sleep for a few hours, but it always seemed to help significantly.

"it's fine, let's walk."

atsumu grinned, quickly running for his sweater. he came back to you patiently waiting by the door.

"okay let's go," you told him, but he stopped you.

he gave you an odd stare before saying, "you didn't bring a sweater?"

you shook your head, earning a disapproving sigh from the blonde. he disappeared back into his room despite your protests.

he came back with a plain, grey hoodie. he tossed it to you. you hesitantly put it on. "i told you i didn't need one."

"you'll get sick, y/n."

you were instantly hit with his cologne. you thought he had gotten you a freshly washed one, but it was clear he had worn this one already.

god, why did he have to smell so good?

he must've seen the pause you took because he asked what was wrong. "does it smell bad?" he pouted, about to reach for the hood to get a whiff but you pulled back.

you shook your head, "no, it smells nice." you were met with his gaze once you looked up.

he took a short breath before walking past you and opening the door.

"c'mon."

there was a bit of back and forth banter between the two of you on your way home. you genuinely enjoyed his company. it made you wonder why you hadn't had small moments like this with him until now.

"atsumu,"

"hmm?"

"why are you hanging out with me so much?"

atsumu hummed pensively before coming up with something. it wasn't the answer you were looking for, and you were sure he knew that. "why not? you don't like me or something?" he replied.

obviously you liked him.

"no, i didn't say that. i was just wondering."

"i guess i realized that you're not so bad," he responded, which was bullshit. you rolled your eyes before pushing him softly.

"seriously." you frowned.

atsumu sighed, "i'm just looking out for you."

you quirked a brow. "what do you mean looking out for me? you mean because of osamu?" the blonde nodded, making you scoff. "so it's basically pity?"

atsumu turned to you, a scowl distorting his features, "hey, don't do that." his tone suddenly turned serious. "i don't pity you. i care about you."

your eyes ran over his face for a bit, contemplating whether or not you wanted to believe him. part of you didn't want to believe him. maybe then you wouldn't feel so guilty. but another part of you silently hoped that he really did care about you. the small reassuring smile closed the deal for you.

it was contagious because soon, a smile was pulling at the corner of your lips.

"you're sweet." you hardly got to see this odd, yet sweet side of atsumu. the blonde was normally full of snarky remarks and jokes, so this change was somewhat refreshing.

15 minutes later and you finally at your house. atsumu gave you a quick side hug, "don't sleep late."

you laughed, "okay mom."

he winced at your comment as he shoved you playfully.

"goodnight, y/n."

"goodnight, tsumu."

your mom turned at the sound of the door opening. she furrowed her brows at you, her eyes falling to the new hoodie you were wearing.

"hi, y/n."

"hi mom," you came around the counter, kissing her cheek.

"did you make up with osamu?"

"no.." you mumbled, "why do you ask?"

she looked at your hoodie again. "is that atsumu's?"

you glanced down, realizing why she had asked. the question had officially soured your mood.

"oh," you reluctantly continued your sentence, "yeah it's his."

your mom gave you an odd look before nodding, "okay.."

you already knew the idea she had, but you decided not to say anything. if you did, it would only make her to tease you about it.

"i'm gonna take a shower and head to bed," you told her, making your way to your room.

your mom's eyes trailed after you, a small, knowing look adorning her face, but she didn't say anything.

she decided she would let you be.

just this once.
