<3

you weren't sure what to feel. a mix of frustration, confusion, and relief all rushed through you.

you let the call go through, then held it up to your ear.

"hey," atsumu voice rang through the phone, your stomach knotting. it had been 3 days since you had heard him, and now he was saying 'hi' like nothing.

"hi," you replied, your voice a little quieter than usual.

then the line fell silent as you and atsumu tried to find the right words to say, your chest heavy as you fought between getting mad at him and trying to stay calm.

then he spoke up, "i've been meaning to call."

"i was worried about you," you say, frustration lacing your words, "i didn't hear anything from you for 3 days, atsumu."

"i know. things just got kinda complicated," atsumu sighed, his voice betraying his normally casual demeanor.

your chest rose and fell slowly as you struggled to contain your emotions, "you could've given me a heads up, or something, i don't know."

"sounds like someone missed me," atsumu chuckled, but you were in no mood for his jokes.

"i'm serious."

there was a pause in the conversation, "i'm sorry, y/n. you're right, i should've talked to you."

you swallowed your feelings back, his apology hanging in the air. you wanted to forgive him. you knew how he felt prior to the game and even after, but he had just shut you out completely. it might've not been personal, but it still hurt.

"what happened? why didn't you talk to me?"

"i was just.. dealing with myself," atsumu admitted, but his vague answer didn't work to answer any of your questions.

"what do you mean?"

"i haven't been feeling like myself," he answered, the words falling from his lips in a mutter. he took a small pause, then continued, "i didn't tell you because i thought it was easier if i just figured out my stuff on my own."

your frustration began to slowly slip away as you listened to him, "we're supposed to be friends, atsumu. you can talk to me."

the blonde hesitated, his tone softer, "it's not your job to fix me."

fix him?

you shifted nervously on your bed, pulling your covers closer to your chest. you thought carefully before answering, "i'm not trying to fix you. i know it's not my job..but you don't have to do everything by yourself."

atsumu stayed silent, the only sound breaking the tension being the t.v in your room.

"what have you been doing?" the question slipped past your lips, referring to all the rain checks he had been taking.

"i've been practicing."

you hummed softly, figuring that would be his answer.
