you did as the coach said, reminding the volleyball team to lock up before leaving.

you waited for osamu and atsumu to come out of the lockers before standing up and walking out with them.

"so? are you glad you came?"

he was on your right side while atsumu was on your left, he was oddly quiet, but you tried not to pay it too much mind.

"i actually am. i have more work to do now, but yeah." you smiled up at him, osamu returning the gesture.

atsumu scoffed, "kita is the reason you really came though, huh?" maybe you were making it up, but you thought there was a slight edge to his voice.

"kita?" osamu said, "what's her coming have to do with kita?"

atsumu glanced at osamu, then at you. he laughed lightly, shaking his head, "never mind."

you furrowed your eyebrows at his passive-aggressiveness.

osamu looked down at you now, "what's he talking about?" a small smile crept up his lips as he began putting the pieces together, "do you have a crush or something?"

"no," you responded quickly. maybe a little too quickly. osamu stared at you, his eyes squinted. clearly, your answer hadn't convinced him. you scowled at him, "what? i don't."

osamu let out a short laugh, "you're a horrible liar, y/n."

you bickered back and forth for a bit. you kept insisting that it was nothing because it really was nothing. you had only said that to mess with his brother. you couldn't even remember a time when you talked to kita for more than a minute.

atsumu butt in every now and then, taking his brother's side, but eventually, the topic was dropped when you got to their house.

you followed your guys' usual routine. osamu told you and atsumu that he would be in his room whilst the two of you sat down their coffee table and did homework.

and of course, like most days, atsumu managed to bring something up to distract you from your work.

of course, today he brought up kita. at this point your tutoring sessions had just turned into hanging sessions with atsumu.

"so kita, huh?"

you rolled your eyes, "atsumu.." you warned.

"ooh," atsumu winced, "so the nickname isn't sticking," he noted, earning a small sigh from you.

despite your annoyance, there was a faint smile pulling at the corner of your lips. "back to kita though."

"i never said anything about liking him," you told him, "i said he was my favorite player."

he scoffed, "please. i saw the way you looked at him. i've gotten those eyes."

your lips pressed into a thin light at the last part. you couldn't help the low sigh that slipped past your lips. you were already thoroughly annoyed with the whole kita thing. atsumu bragging about himself didn't help.

"why does this bother you so much?"

a light grin was plastered on atsumu's face as he spoke, "it doesn't bother me."

"are you sure? i think it does," you retorted.

"why would you think that?"

"because if it didn't bother you, you would've dropped the subject already."

atsumu nodded slowly, his grin distorting into more of a defeated one, "okay, fine. i'll drop it because it doesn't bother me. well played, y/n." he muttered the last bit softly.

you managed to get back to work, but atsumu was a bit quieter than usual. he was still blurting out some snarky, or flirty remark, though they were kept to a minimum. he walked you through a few steps sometimes, but he was still a bit off like he was when you guys were walking back to his.

was this bothering him? you had only said it as a joke, but guessing from his behavior this was genuinely irritating him.

"is someone jealous?" you spoke up after completing a problem, smiling up at him.

atsumu brought his eyes off your paper, his brow creased at your teasing.

"jealous of what?"

"you tell me."

your heart began pounding. you almost wanted him to say 'yes' but miya was too good for that.

atsumu didn't give you an answer. he reached towards you, ruffling your hair, "get back to work, y/n."

you reluctantly gave in, you attention back to your work, but not before mumbling another tease, "i think you're jealouss."

after an hour of atsumu talking and making you take notes on certain problems you finally packed up. you placed your things in your bag, atsumu's gaze lingering on you as you did.

you slipped on your jacket, pulling your hair out from the hoodie so it fell over your shoulders.

atsumu, however, stayed on the floor, looking up at you. he looked pensive, like he had a question that was itching to get out.

"are you not walking me home?" you asked, bending down and grabbing your bag.

the boy tilted his head up at you, smiling, "you're not gonna call kita and ask him to walk you home instead?"

your face twisted into a frown, reaching your hand out to him, "you're ridiculous. get up."

atsumu wanted to act indifferent, but he couldn't. he gladly took your hand, letting you pull him up.

"hey," he called as he closed the door behind him, making you turn to face him, "is kita really your favorite player?"

you glanced up at him, your eyes softening at the genuineness in his voice. there was no teasing, or playful him to his words. his normally rough and playful grin was replaced with a gentle smile.

he didn't look scared to hear your answer, almost like he knew the answer despite his initial reaction to you telling him kita was your favorite.

you sighed, "no, atsumu. you're my favorite."

"really? not my brother?"

"samu's a great player, but you happen to be my favorite."

his smile grew, "yeah?"

his gaze was staring to make you warm, so you quickly turned around, taking in a short breath in an attempt to calm your nerves.

"yes, now it's cold, so walk me home."

"yes ma'am."

"gross."

he laughed, quickening his pace so he could walk next to you.
