a few minutes after practice started the coach approached you.

normally he wouldn't accept any "visitors". he called them a distraction, so it was expected that he would look slightly irritated.

"what are you doing here?"

"i'm helping you with practice today," you smiled, hoping your charm might persuade him to let you stay. "i'll shag, refill waters, anything you need."

he stared at you, contemplating whether or not to let you stay. he was hesitant, but he gave in after a good minute. he knew you were one of the volleyball team's longest supporters.

"okay," he muttered, "just don't be a distraction."

"i won't." he seemed somewhat pleased with your answer, so after a moment he left. but not before giving you one, last pointed look. he walked onto the court, yelling at the boys to get ready.

the team began warming up, partnering up with one another. one person was missing though.

coach kurosu called you and kita over. "warm up with kita, will you?"

what a coincidence.

you nodded your head. you had watched their warm-ups for games. you remembered the girls warmed up a little differently than the boys, but this seemed simple enough.

you and kita were too far apart to start any conversation. it was a tad bit upsetting only for the fact that you wanted to mess with the setter a bit.

you glanced over at atsumu who was warming up with his brother, and surely enough he was looking at you.

you smiled at him, but he simply shook his head.

once they were done warming up coach kurosu began running some drills with them. he made them work on hitting and coverage. he yelled something about having an issue with that at their last game.

they worked non-stop for 15 minutes until ginjima stopped to ask for a water break. the coach agreed, giving the boys 20 seconds to get water.

atsumu took this opportunity to gloat.

"what do you think?"

"i think you guys are a good team."

"you have nothing to say about any individual player?" he asked, making you laugh.

"not really."

"leave her alone, dummy." osamu nudged his brother, earning a small whine. "i finished my water, do you think you can refill it?"

"mine too." suna chimed in, holding his water bottle out for you.

"i'm almost done too. can you take mine, y/n?" ojiro asked.

"and mine? please." omimi asked as well.

"that's a lot of waters," atsumu teased.

it was, and it was annoying. you didn't think everyone would finish their waters within the first 15 minutes of their practice.

you struggled as everyone began handing you their water bottles. "you know chugging is actually bad?" you asked, making a few players roll their eyes at you.

atsumu even repeated what you said in a mocking tone, "okay nerd."

you glared while trying to balance the water bottles in your arms.

"i'll help," kita said, taking a few of the waters from your hands.

"aw, you're so sweet." you let kita take the waters into his hands, then glanced at atsumu, "unlike someone else."

he was pulling the same face as earlier, watching as kita began to help you.

you two walked out, making your way to the fountain. it wasn't that far away from the gym, it was actually just a few steps outside.

"how come you're here today?"

you shrugged as you filled up osamu's bottle, "i just didn't want to do work."

kita let out a small chuckle. "understandable."

silence filled the air as you two stood there, waiting for the first bottle to fill up. you pressed your lips into a straight line, feeling a little uneasy with the lack of conversation.

kita must've felt it too. his eyes met yours, suddenly laughing when he noticed the expression on your face. you couldn't help but laugh with him. "sorry, i'm awkward."

"that makes two of us," he smiled.

he didn't want the air to become still again, so he spoke up. "i'm surprised coach let you in. he must like you."

you furrowed your brows. you didn't feel like he did.

"you think?"

kita nodded. "he never lets anyone into the gym. i mean people who aren't his players."

you placed osamu's bottle down at your feet, moving onto another one.

"so i'm an exception?"

kita shrugged. "that's why i think he likes you."

you two talked a little more. you and kita didn't have any common grounds besides volleyball as of right now, but he was nice.

he handed you the remaining water bottles as you two spoke. you quickly finished filling up the last bottle and walked back with kita behind you.

you placed the bottles down, kita doing the same. you thanked him again, though he insisted that there was nothing to thank him for.

"get over here kita," coach barked. the older man gave you a warning look before giving the boys more instructions. he was introducing a new drill. it earned a collective groan from the boys, but he shut them up. "you guys can do suicides instead. would you rather do that?"

the boys sighed and groaned. "no coach."

"good. start then." he then gestured you over. "shag the balls around the gym. i don't want anyone twisting an ankle."

you did what he asked. the day consisted of the same, shagging balls, tossing them, catching them and placing them into the cart, and refilling waters every now and then. you thought you might be bored, but surprisingly you weren't.

the boys were drenched in sweat by the time coach kurosu called it a day. they were relieved to finally stop, some less than others. you admired that in them.

when they started cleaning the gym you decided to help by putting the balls into the closet.

"thank you for helping today," coach kurosu told you. "will this be a frequent recurrence?"

"i don't know. i thought you didn't really like 'visitors' in the gym."

"i normally don't, but you're not here to gawk at the boys." then he raised a brow at you. "are you?"

a look of disbelief flashed across your face, "what? no, i'm not here to gawk."

"didn't think so. you coming more often then?" he asked again.

you thought about it for a minute. helping the volleyball team turned out to be a decent stress reliever. plus, this was a perfect way to mess with atsumu for a little. all in good fun, right?

"i mean.. would it be okay with you if i come every now and then to help?"

he gave a careful nod, "it was helpful having you around."

"thank you, coach kurosu."

he gave you a brief bow, "make sure the boys don't make a mess of things. oh, and remind them to lock up." with that he left.

you stared, baffled. why did that responsibility fall on you? you were barely here for a day, but you said nothing as he disappeared through the gym doors.

you sighed, sitting down while atsumu and osamu finished cleaning the floor.
