today was rainy.
your english teacher was explaining some rules for the most recent assignment, though his felt more like a background sound.
your eyes were on the board, but you were lost in your thoughts. you couldn't stop thinking of atsumu.
you cringed.
why did it have to be atsumu of all people?
you ran a tired hand through your hair, muttering a light chain of curses. this mess was all because you couldn't understand math.
you shouldn't have called him yesterday.
it felt icky. and yet your heart raced every time you replayed atsumu's teasing smile or his lingering looks.
you looked to your right to find osamu hunched over his desk, his brows creased with concentration as he made doodles of animals on his assignments.
why wasn't he the one failing?
you sighed. atsumu was osamu's brother. the thought made you feel sick. osamu felt your stare, turning to look at you. for a second you thought about quickly looking away, but he had already caught you. so instead, you simply stared. you should've looked away. this was one hundred times more awkward.
he raised a silent brow.
"cute," you whispered to him, pointing towards his paper. anything to distract him. osamu glanced back down at the panda doodle you were referring to. "is that anatomically correct?" your words came out in a hushed tone.
he scowled. "shut up. i think he's adorable."
osamu turned back to the paper, examining the bear for a few seconds before erasing some parts of it and re-drawing it, his face twisting with concentration again.
you smiled at his childlike manner before you felt a fresh wave of guilt.
this is the worst.
osamu would hate you. you could already imagine the look of betrayal if he ever found out about you possibly liking his brother.
even that sounded icky. were you wrong? were you a horrible human being? you stared at osamu for another second before deciding that yes, you were horrible.
so for that, you made a silent vow to stop thinking about atsunu.
your teacher would be droning on about proper grammar and punctuation—calling a few people out for not knowing it. okay. good. you were listening, you were actually listening to him.
"remember, the two parts should stand as their own sentence, and—"
atsumu.
you mentally kicked yourself. was it seriously that hard to just not think about him? apparently. and there your attention went. you couldn't capture a single word your teacher said after that.
damn you, miya atsumu.
this was just a fleeting crush—an infatuation. this wasn't real, right? you kept trying to rationalize, but there was nothing rational about the warmth that spread in your chest every time you thought about him.
you let out a weary sigh, turning out the window to watch as the raindrops traced down the window. you picked one raindrop, deciding to watch that singular one as it slid down the glass. you hoped it would get down to the bottom before any of the other fresh drops, but it didn't.
you quietly clicked your tongue. even watching the rain pellets race couldn't take your mind off of this mess. and you loved rain races.
maybe all of this was nothing. maybe all the moments you thought meant something didn't mean anything and it was just atsumu being atsumu.
miya atsumu, heart throb of inarizaki. you were starting to see it.
were you dumb to fall for his all charms and sweet words?
no, it seemed like he genuinely cared about you. but was he like that with everyone? these questions were starting to give you a headache.
"hey, are listening?" osamu asked impatiently, pulling you out of your thoughts.
your head snapped towards him before you nodded slowly. "yeah. i'm listening."
you didn't even notice when the teacher had stopped talking, nor had you noticed when osamu started talking.
"what did i just say?"
you stared at him dumbly. "you said.. that.." you trailed off, earning a scowl.
"uh-huh. sounds like you were listenin' well."
you sighed. "sorry, i'm just stressed."
"about what? homework?"
"yeah. homework," you lied.
