you sat down with osamu next to you. the teacher was currently blabbing on about something important, but you were too tired to pay any attention.

osamu noticed your distant look and he nudged you. "what's up with you?" he asked.

you lifted your head, your gaze meeting his briefly. you groaned quietly before resting your head back in your arms.

osamu rolled his eyes. "what? didn't get enough sleep?"

this time you didn't lift your head, but you turned to the side so you could see him. "how'd you know? is it that obvious?"

osamu's eyes run over your face for a second before giving you a slow nod. "very obvious. you look like shit."

his ratty remark made you frown. "gee, thanks." you mumbled sarcastically. you did look pretty bad though. you had been spending more time on homework recently, hoping to bring up your grades.

"sorry, just tryna look out for you."

you scoff. "you go about it in such a sweet way."

he shook his head at you again. "why would you expect that from me?"

you laughed softly. he was right. you don't know why you would expect anything other than straight forward and blunt from him.

"l/n," the teacher called with a cold stare. "head up. and stop talking."

with that, osamu turned back to the lecture. not before catching the look on your face though. it made him bite back a grin. your face was glowing red with embarrassment.

you sighed and averted your eyes. "he's totally singling me out.. you were talking too..!" you whispered, trying to distract yourself from the blush on your face, but osamu ignored you.

finally lunch rolled around.

"godd, finally!" you hurry out of the classroom, osamu calmly trailing behind you. you turned around, waiting for your friend to catch up. "i thought that class would never end. everything he was saying was going in through one ear and going out the other."

once osamu caught up, you began walking towards the cafeteria.

"that's why you're failing," osamu said bluntly. you didn't bother to look back at him, but you could tell he was smiling to himself.

"you say that as if you're not," you countered.

then he went silent.

good.

"well.." he started, "i'm doing better than you are."

"are you?"

he didn't answer, but you didn't need him too. you knew he was. that's the only reason he wasn't getting tutored. because he was one letter grade above you.

you walked the halls slowly, finally reaching the cafeteria after slipping past the semi-crowded corridors.

osamu and you sat down at an empty table. you began small talk before you're suddenly interrupted by a few of his teammates. suma, ginjima, and kita sat down across from you two.

"yes, please join us." osamu's voice dripped with sarcasm as he stared between the three boys.

ginjima rolled his eyes at him. "shut up. don't pretend like you don't love us."

osamu's widened. "i think you're delusional."

"shut up," ginjima repeated.

the small banter between the two boys pulls a faint giggle from you. you meet kita's gaze, offering a smile at the boy. he returns it.
