you sat down at the dinner table with atsumu across from you. he was giving you his signature grin.

being under his gaze made you slightly uneasy, but you pushed the feeling away. you took your unfinished homework out of your bag.

"so why are you failing?"

you shrugged, "i don't know. guess i'm not smart enough."

he knit his brows together at your response. atsumu didn't look very pleased with it. "what do you mean? you're not dumb."

you hated the thought of someone lying to you to make you feel better, so you ignored that statement.

"so what's my mom paying you?"

you glanced at him, resting your chin in the palm of your hand. atsumu didn't answer at first, he simply laughed, fidgeting with a pencil.

"she's not payin' me anything. it's just a small favor."

"oh." you had to think about that for a minute, "wait - why?"

he shrugged, "guess i'm just nice."

you couldn't help the urge to laugh at that utterly ridiculous lie. atsumu furrowed his brows, watching you as you burst into a laughing fit.

"what's so funny?"

"'i'M NicE'," you mocked, moving a hand over you mouth as you continued to laugh.

"i am!" he poorly defended himself, which only made you laugh more.

"yeah, yeah, okay."

"i'm bein' serious!"

you let him win after you'd calmed down from your fit, your face flushed from laughing so much.

"it's not even that funny." atsumu told you, now flipping through the pages of your worksheets, seeing what pages you had finished and which ones you hadn't. "anyway, let's just get this done."

he explained several parts of equations, you kept nodding and telling him you understood it, but in reality you didn't.

after explaining something he would expect you to the problem the way he showed you and you would just stare at him blankly and say, "sorry, could you explain it again?"

honestly you were somewhat glad to have him as your tutor. the two of you were okay friends, so you didn't have to feel too intimidated with him teaching you.

"oh my god, yer the worst student ever."

he teased, watching as you struggled to get the next part of the question.

you scowled, looking up at him, "help me, atsumu!"

"i already did. why aren't you listenin'?"

"i am! i just can't remember any of it." you whined, throwing your hands up.

"fine. next time we'll take notes instead. maybe then you can remember somethin'. yer done for the day." he told you as he stood up, helping you put your stuff away.

the blonde was already on his way to his room when you stopped him.

"hey, atsumu,"

"yeah?" he turned back.

"why'd you actually offer to tutor me?" he looked at you thoughtfully, "and be honest."

he gave you a lop-sided smile, "is it that hard to believe that i did it just 'cus i'm nice?"

"very." you responded.

"fine. honestly?"

"honestly." you repeated, to which he sighed.

"well.. i guess i did it because-"

"would you guys like snacks?" his mom came by with a tray of fruits and vegetables. you gratefully took the platter and thanked her. "anytime, dear." she smiled at you before walking off.

seeing the snacks atsumu happily came back to the table.

"so what were you saying?"

"oh so what i was going to say-"

you quickly covered your eyes. you knew atsumu did that on purpose. the boy had began talking with his mouth full.

"oh my god atsumu! don't talk with you mouth full."

"my bad." he said, but you could hear the smile in his voice.

you uncovered your eyes, "chew first."

your gaze turned to him, and now you could visibly see that he had stopped chewing. he just had a mouthful of apple slices.

you scoffed, "really atsumu?"

he nodded, trying his best to give you a closed lip smile.

"wow, fine, you win."

he chewed before opening his mouth and saying, "thanks, so you wanna go out and practice with me?" you decided to put the question to rest, since it seemed like he was avoiding it.

"ugh. fine." you sighed. atsumu had just come back from practice, you don't know how he could come back and continue to play, but you agreed to practice with him.
