Mother

The word held warmth and a sense of protection. He loved his mother despite her loud and contrasting personality to him. That's what children are suppose to do.

But he couldn't imagine if his mother was even one tenth of what the woman in front of him was. It shook his believe on the relationship.

He didn't had to think twice before concluding that it was Madhuri Singhal behind it all.

How could she do that to her own daughter? Wasn't she aware the mess the article could create!

The question had no answer just like a lot of them. But today he was not going let Annika loose. It was the matter of her respect. If she was questioned about their relationship then he didn't even know if he'd be able to hold himself from telling everyone what exactly she meant to him. But before that he will make sure to bring out Madhuri's real face to light, all at once.

"Annika will not explain anything!" He said and Madhuri's gaze shifted to him.

"She will not explain or give any justifications because I think the ones who know and trust her and me will understand why and how it all happened."

Madhuri scowled as his stance on her seemed bitter to her. He was looking at her with darkness. Darkness that she hadn't seen from a long time. The darkness that consumed everything just to protect it's loved ones.

"He's right, my Anni will not explain. Because she doesn't need too. No one knows her better than me and for Shivaay he is a open book to me. I would have been aware if any of this was true." Aditya repeated Shivaay's words in his support.

"Mr and Mrs Singhal what is your opinion on this? Will you not question your daughter on her deeds?" Mrs Taneja looked at them demanding while Sameer along with his father stood silently watching her.

Mrs Taneja didn't want to get this alliance broken and if acting according to Madhuri's instructions promised her that then she'd do it blindly. But it was her mistake.

Sameer though wanted to speak for Annika but talking against his mother infront of others was a definitely a bad idea. After his last argument with her he couldn't take the risk to again do it.

Adhiraj kept taking deep breaths in order to control the anger bubbling up in him. He was calm and patient man , but today he was losing it.

He opened his mouth to speak but was cut off by Madhuri.

"I think all of it is a misunderstanding. She and Shivaay are not even friends. They don't share this kind of relationship. What happened, shouldn't have had happened. I am really sorry on behalf of her."

"No we are not sorry!" Adhiraj interrupted and Madhuri was taken aback.

"My daughter has done nothing wrong. Even if she has then your son not a saint either. I think the article or any kind of photos don't change the fact that this alliance cannot happen. Because my daughter doesn't want it."

Everyone looked on as he spoke. He was calm yet his words held the weight that conveyed how serious he was.

"Thank you for coming over but I think you should leave now. " Were Adhiraj's last words to Mr and Mrs Taneja.

The couple was quite offended by him decided to walk out. Mrs Taneja shared a look with Madhuri who was herself in a state of hyperventilation.

Sameer walked up to Annika and stood before her. His chin was down and didn't meet her gaze. Then he hugged her, the one that friends do.

"Thank you and sorry. I hope the next time you meet me I'd be able to meet your eyes" he muttered slowly not wanting anyone else to hear them.

When he broke the hug after his eyes had moistened and he didn't wait for a second more before walking out of the mansion.

Annika gulped the lump in her throat and turned to look at her father. Even if she didn't need to explain,  she felt like she owed him an explanation on this. She's his daughter!

But before she could open her mouth Adhiraj spoke. " Madhuri, did you know about Sameer being involved with some other girl?"

Madhuri was nervous but nonetheless she answered "of course I didn't Adhiraj. Annika and Sameer both were together for around two years and she herself accepted that she liked him. So I talked to you about it."

Annika wanted to scoff at the white lies but stayed quiet.

"It is my fault. I should have been more meticulous about it. Anyway what is done is done. Now you don't need get worried about Nikku's marriage. I'll handle it."Adhiraj added added to his words. Now he had made his mind to not take anything about Annika lightly.

"Nikku, you were aware?" Adhiraj asked narrowing his eyes looking at her straight giving no chance to lie.

She nodded and he let out sign.

"Then you must have a reason to still agree to get engaged. I am not asking you but this is the last time you are being let go. I don't want you to get into anymore mess." He reprimanded.

Annika nodded not looking up. For a second she felt as she was back in her highschool days. He was scolding her just like old times, he was stern yet soft to her. A tone she could never oppose. Not because she couldn't but because she didn't want to.

Adhiraj gestured his Younger brother to follow him and walked away perhaps to the living room leaving his have eaten breakfast. Madhuri too made her way out Annika didn't know where.

Swarna gave a reassuring smile and too exited. Left were Aditya, Shivaay, Kartik, Sanam and Annika herself.

Not knowing what to do Aditya gestured them to take their seat on the table.

She looked at Shivaay and he was staring at the empty plate in front of him. No doubt he was lost.

"What made you come here?" She questioned. The silence which had prevailed was disturbed. Her voice seemed loud but she had just spoken in a very normal octave.

"Maybe because I wanted to be the hero taking all the blame and not letting you face any questions" he casually responded but he was anything but that.

Annika rolled her eyes "Yeah ,then you don't even leave a chance to let anyone question you, let alone me."

Kartik cracked up at that but controlled.

"To be honest, I didn't want you to be alone when you realize that what the article said. It has me with you. I am equally involved and hence I would not let you suffer alone." Shivaay genuinely answered this time.

She pressed her lip together, her respect for him grew. Boys were never questioned on things like that. Even if they were it was very likely not as severe as compared to girls.

Now when the engagement was off media would make it all more spicy linking the article with the breaking up of the engagement. She'd have to work at home in order to avoid media and questions.

"Anni, you won't attend office for a few days. And won't step outside the mansion without bodyguards. In fact if you want to go anywhere I or Kartik will come with you. I don't want the media to throw unnecessary questions at you. And about the article , it will be taken care of."

Aditya more like ordered well aware she'd not say a no at this situation. Then he got up and gestured Shivaay and Kartik to follow him.

Annika turned to look at Sanam.  Sanam grinned keeping her phone down.

"Well, no offense but you guys definitely look hot in the pictures"

And Annika's jaw dropped at the statement.
