"Ah, Leona, your grip is too tight." She patted my shoulder.
"Sorry. It's just that I am not quite used to such kindness from female people in my life. My own mother hated my existence for a very long time, I had to stab one of my now best friends to protect myself, my own sister betrayed me several times and I had to put some others in their place because they tried to hurt me or someone I care for." I quickly let go.
"I am sorry to hear that." Natasha said straightening out her clothes.
"So you see, you are only one of a very few people in my life, to show me some form of care without ulterior motives, or because of who I am supposed to be. As far as I know. Which I am very grateful for. So please don't turn out to be like the rest?" I pleaded with her.
"I don't know if I can keep that promise as I don't know what the future will bring either of us. However, I do promise to be honest with you, if my reasons to do certain things might make you and I come up against one another." She compromised.
"That's really all I want. Thank you." I smiled happy with this.
"You're welcome. Oh, I heard there is a mission coming up we are all going on and we have a meeting about it in a bit. Are you coming?" A mission for the whole team? interesting.
"Sure. Let's go." The two of us left for the meeting room. We found the others already there. The full team was assembled this time.
"Good you're both here. We can begin." Hill said. "We have found a massive HYDRA-base where we picked up signals of what we believe the same energy that Loki's scepter gave off. Our suspicions are that they are making weapons infused with the scepter's power and enhanced humans. Your mission is to retrieve the scepter and dismantle the base. Oh and if possible please arrest Strucker." She explained. this base must be big. I wonder what a Loki's scepter is.
"What do you plan to do with the scepter?" Tony asked.
"Research." That wasn't all if her heartbeat was anything to go by, but I chose to trust Hill. She was one of the few good Shield agents.
"How long are you expecting this to take?" Steve asked.
"Two, three days tops. Travelling included." perhaps I needed to pack a bloodbag or two. just in case.
"Anything we should be looking out for?" Clint asked.
"Aside from your goals not as far as I know. Pack quickly as you are all leaving in an hour and a half. Dismissed." We all left quickly. I packed a change of clothes and the blood bags were poured into thermos flasks, and something made me put my cloak on over my suit. I don't know what made me do that, but I did.
At the elevator I ran into Steve and Bruce. "You're wearing that cloak of yours?" Bruce noted.
"Something was telling me to do it. I don't know what it was, but I chose to follow my gut. It has never let me down before." I answered.
"Those symbols on it, what are they?" Steve asked.
"Symbols used in alchemy. Those in the trade believed that the stars and some planets had a big effect on certain uses of the gift. Therefore, some symbols represent those constellations, and some represent the planets. The others are for representing some common components found more often or the type of reactions. The ones on my hands are the same." I explained.
"You know quite a bit about all this." I smiled.
"I was lucky to have the mate of the first Alchemist of my bloodline, as my teacher. She had taught him everything so he could help the others understand the gift. I am the last of my bloodline and the last true Alchemist to ever exist." Master Marcus was always livelier while teaching me. Even Aro had noticed it according to the drawing in my book.
"How much time passed since the first Alchemist came to be?"
"The first one was born around 1300 BC. I am from 1981 do the math." Their eyes widened comically.
"That's... a lot of time." Bruce was in awe it seemed.
"It is. They were some of the first vampires in existence that I know of. In all that time only three have been chosen and tested as true alchemists. One became prey to those who felt threatened by her power, another turned into a predator with a thirst for vengeance and I am as the third and final chosen alchemist meant to be a protector. Though what I am supposed to protect I have no idea." I shrugged.
We arrived at the deck where the quinjet was waiting. I stuffed my flasks into the mini fridge I installed in the jet and took my seat. During the flight I asked what had me wondering. "What is a Loki's scepter?"
"Loki is my brother. He was the one behind the attack in New York. He has a scepter that contains some power to influence the brain." Thor explained. "After the attack we lost sight of the scepter. Hydra seems to have found it and uses it's power for their gain."
"So humans are messing with power they cannot quite understand out of greed for power."
"Yes something like that." He nodded. I hummed in annoyance. Greed seems to be the biggest reason for anyone to do wrong. No matter where I go.
Soon enough we were near the base. Clint landed the jet and we were seen apparently as a 'welcome committee' was ready for us. We were busy with HYDRA soldiers when I saw him zip passed. A blond boy no older than I am guessing sixteen. He was fast. Perhaps one of the enhanced Maria had mentioned. He got rid of Clint's explosive arrows and ran over Steve.
"Leona, a little help here." Clint said through the earpiece.
"On my way." I chased the boy and froze the snow under his feet hoping to make him fall on the slippery ground. He was too fast and kept running. "The little shit is too damn fast. That's new." So I used all my speed and caught up to him, while Steve said something about language. Barely managing to touch his back, I made his pants drop so he still tripped. Moving to bind him, I sensed what must have been the power that made him enhanced. It made the hair in my neck stand up.
