Jade had been driving along the highway outside of their town for about an hour now and she still had no idea where they were going.

Sairah was resting an elbow on the window sill as she looked out quietly.

Damn. When she said we would drive in silence she wasn't kidding. Leigh-Anne's sister had not said a word since they started driving. She's got to talk to me at some point right? Did Sairah have a destination in mind or was this really just going to be a long drive to nowhere and then back?

Sairah faced forward and Jade could see that she wore a serious expression. She looks so much like Leigh. Jade could not deny that.

After a few more minutes, Jade cleared her throat. "So eh . . . I could tell from the start that this wasn't exactly a soul searching drive like you claim it is. Um . . . you don't really seem like the 'soul searching' type to me so . . . could you maybe tell me where I'm taking you?" Did anything she said sound offensive? She hoped not.

Sairah turned to face her slowly.

Jade stiffened and gulped.

Sairah opened her mouth to speak. "What makes you think I'm not the type to do deep soul searching?"

Jade raised an eyebrow with her eyes out the windshield. She had only seen two other cars drive past them while out here. The highway was somehow empty. "Based on what Leigh's said about you? You kind of just focus on what's outside than what's in. Don't think too much unless you have to. Not that I'm saying you're stupid- oh boy. What I mean is you're not an overthinker or even a deep thinker like someone like me or Leigh. Not that you're not deep-"

"I stopped listening after you said what Leigh said about me. Leigh talks about me?" Sairah seemed intrigued.

Jade was glad she cut off half of what she said. Cause I was really botching it. "Of course she does. You're the only blood relative she's got left so you come up now and then."

Sairah smiled a little at that. "And I took good care of her back when it was just the two of us." She sounded sure and confident. "Bet she'd never forget that uh?"

Jade found her kind of cute for being proud of how she looked after Leigh-Anne back when they were on their own. "Yup."

Sairah showed a full on grin.

Jade glanced at her and found her pretty when she smiled like that. "You look a whole lot like her."

"Like Leigh-Anne? Nah not really. Some people at school thought we were twins at first but I'm a lot bigger. Got more muscle and stuff. Leigh's kinda scrawny don't you think? Like you."

Jade took the insult with grace. "Right . . ." She shook her head. "No really, where are we going?" She felt that as the one driving, she should know.

"Who says we're going anywhere?"

Jade rolled her eyes. "From the time you showed up asking me to take you out on a drive I could tell you had something in mind. It's not like you to want to be around 'Leigh-Anne's little friends'."

Sairah felt called out a bit. "Fine." She looked out the window again. "We're going back to my old neighbourhood."

Jade's eyes widened. "Wh-what?"

Sairah didn't say anything.

"Why?"

Sairah shrugged. "Before Jesy read that stupid poem to me about who knows what and I told her she was an idiot, she'd said that she wrote it in her journal and that unlocked a memory in my brains." She pointed to her head. "My big sister used to take notes all the time. Well that was what she called it but when I asked what the notes were about once she'd said that they were 'personal' so now that I know a bit more about people and their feelings and what they do with them, I deduced that she'd been writing her feelings into a journal."
