"Mrs Lee told me to help you with the assignment..." Chanhee said reluctantly as he sat down next to Younghoon.
Younghoon looked over at the boy for a few moments before shrugging. "I think I can figure it out..." he spoke quietly.
A small sigh slipped from Chanhee's lips before he grabbed Younghoon's paper and looked at the work he had already done. "Just let me explain it to you," he offered.
Taking his paper back, Younghoon felt his cheeks heat up in embarrassment just because somebody had seen how unskilled he was in math. "I don't need your help," he grumbled before scooting his chair away from the boy.
"I'm just trying to help you!" Chanhee hissed. It made his blood boil that somebody could be so arrogant to reject help.
"I don't want you to!"
Slamming his pencil down on his desk, Chanhee gave up on trying to protect any reputation he may of had at school and screamed, "What the hell is your problem!?"
"I just don't need any fucking help!"
"Why, Younghoon, why? Just say it!"
"Oh like you don't already know it's because you're g—"
"Boys!" Mrs Lee yelled from her desk as she slammed her hands down on the wooden surface, "That is quite enough!" She paused to take a deep breath before continuing, "Because you two thought it was okay to disrupt the class and swear you will be joining me for after school detention."
"Mrs Lee I h—"
"Am I clear?" She gritted out causing both of them to nod nervously.
✨✨✨
"Okay," Mrs Lee started once the class room had cleared out of everybody but Younghoon and Chanhee. She pointed to two desks directly across from hers and said, "You two will sit right there for the next hour. Chanhee you will help Younghoon with the assignment and both of you will do so without complaining."
"Yes ma'am," Younghoon said quickly as he sat down.
Chanhee nodded and wordlessly sat down next to the elder. He pulled out his own worksheet and compared his answers with Younghoon's. "It's the same thing I told you like two weeks ago...you have to divide then take the square root."
"I don't know what that means," Younghoon admitted as he snatched his paper out of Chanhee's hands and tried to figure out what he meant.
Chanhee leaned over so he could point out what he meant, but Younghoon quickly moved the opposite way. "Right here," the boy spoke, his voice laced with frustration, "You're taking the square root before you're dividing."
Younghoon stared at the numbers for what felt like hours, just trying to comprehend the boy's words. No matter how much help he'd gotten over the years it was just impossible for him to understand math. There was just something in his brain that didn't understand the complicated processes of solving equations. "I don't understand," he choked out, feeling as if he could cry from humiliation.
"Okay..." Chanhee said a little gentler this time when he noticed how uncomfortable the elder looked. "So we have these two coordinates. You divide the second y value by the first," he explained, waiting for Younghoon to do what he just said.
After figuring out what those words meant, he got the answer and looked up at Chanhee expectantly. "Now that you have the answer to that you put it to the x root...x being the difference in these two values," the younger explained as he pointed to the two numbers on the paper.
"So it would be two then?" Younghoon asked hesitantly. When he saw Chanhee nod he felt a wave of relief wash over him, he wasn't a complete idiot.
"That's your b value, now we have to solve for a."
When those words fell upon Younghoon's ears, he slammed his head down onto the desk. "That's only half the problem...?"
✨✨✨
"Okay boys, you're free to go," Mrs Lee said softly when she noticed an hour had passed, "I expect you'll try your best to be kind to each other in my classroom from now on."
The two both nodded as they packed up their things and wished the woman a good night. Since they both had to go the same way to get to their cars, Chanhee and Younghoon walked awkwardly through the halls together.
Just as they were about to part ways outside of the school, Younghoon quickly turned around and grabbed Chanhee's arm. "I uh...thank you for helping me," he stammered.
Chanhee looked up at the elder with wide eyes, caught off guard by his sudden sincerity. A small frown formed on his lips before he whispered, "I didn't do that for you. I think today I realized that we're just not going to be friends no matter how much shit I put up with." Taking a step away from the boy he added, "For a split second I actually thought that just maybe somebody in this stupid school could look past me being gay."
"I..." Younghoon whispered, "I'm sorry."
Scoffing at the boys words, Chanhee shook his head. "You're not sorry, Younghoon. You're uncomfortable with the fact that I'm gay and you take it out on me even though I've done nothing wrong." When he saw Younghoon open his mouth he held up a finger to signify he wasn't finished, "You're an asshole. You don't care about anything other than yourself and I can finally see that now."
"You don't know anything about me."
"I can take a few guesses!" Chanhee yelled in anger, "It's obvious you're nothing more than a privileged jerk who's never had to think on your own!"
Younghoon stared Chanhee for a few moments before unexpectedly grabbing the back of his head and smashing their lips together.
"What the hell!" Chanhee spat as he pushed Younghoon away from him, "What the fuck is wrong with you?"
Stumbling backwards, Younghoon looked at the younger in shock as if he was the one who had initiated the kiss. "I...have to go," he mumbled before hurrying to his car.
