Warning: slurs

Younghoon watched the rain hit the pavement through the window as he tried to drown out the sound of the teacher rambling on about cell signaling. It had been raining since he woke up and quite frankly, Younghoon was far more interested in figuring out how it hadn't flooded yet.

The sky was illuminated an electric blue as a lightning bolt flickered through the dark clouds. Younghoon perked up, waiting for the thunder bound to come, but was quickly disappointed when all he heard was a distant rumbling.

Younghoon was snapped out of his storm-chaser daydream when he heard the other boys at his table giggling. He focused in on their conversation and tried to piece together what they were gossiping about. From the short phrase, surprised Chanhee can ever focus in class, Younghoon knew exactly what—who they were talking about.

"Don't you have better things to talk about?" He spoke flatly, causing the boys to halt their conversation.

"Don't pretend like you don't agree, Younghoon. It's fucked up we have to share a school with somebody like him."

Leaning back in his chair, Younghoon raised an eyebrow and grumbled, "what the hell has he ever done to you?"

"Are you stupid?" One of the boys hissed, "he's a faggot."

"And you're a prick."

A scowl formed on the boy's face as he heard Younghoon's insult. "Why are you defending him? Is Kim Younghoon a fag too?"

"I just think it's a little old. It's been four years...I don't know how you still have shit to say about him," Younghoon retorted quietly enough to avoid getting scolded by the teacher, "You seem a little obsessed with Chanhee—you don't have a little crush, do you?"

"Shut the fuck up," the boy spat.

Glancing over his shoulder to make sure they hadn't caught the teacher's attention, Younghoon saying, "Just stop saying shit like that about people you don't know."

"Yeah? Or what?" One of them asked, leaning across the table in an attempt to intimidate Younghoon.

A quiet laugh fell from his lips as he just shook his head, knowing if it truly came down to it those boys would have nothing but their words to defend themselves.

"Younghoon!" Yeri shouted to get the elder's attention before he left the biology room.

Walking towards the girl, Younghoon sighed, "look—I'm not really in the mood for arguing right now."

"I don't want to argue with you."

"Really?"

Yeri crossed her arms impatiently and let out a harsh breath. "I heard you talking to those dumbasses in class—what you did was cool."

A grin spread across Younghoon's face before he asked, "you think I'm cool?"

"Not anymore."

"Oh come on—just admit you secretly like me," the elder said smugly, "I can be your friend too, Yeri."

Yeri frowned as she took a few seconds to ponder the idea before extending one of her hands. "Fine. Let's be friends, Kim Younghoon."

"You want me to shake your hand?"

"Do we have a deal or not?"

With a smile, Younghoon grabbed Yeri's hand firmly and shook it. "We're officially friends now," he said happily.

"I'm doing this for Chanhee," the girl grumbled as she pulled her hand away, "I have to keep an eye on you."

"I have something to ask you."

"Go for it."

"Why do you say my full name every time you talk to me?"

✨✨✨

"Chanhee, you should invite Younghoon over to play Mario kart with us tonight."

Chanhee looked up from the equation he was solving with his eyebrows drawn together in confusion. "You want me to invite Younghoon over?" He asked skeptically. He glanced over at the boy next to him to see Younghoon already looking at him, chin resting on his palm.

"We're friends now," the elder stated simply.

"What kind of weird ass joke is this—you guys are freaking me out."

With a sigh, Yeri shrugged and added, "We made a truce today in biology. I can try to tolerate him for you."

Chanhee nodded, "I see...but you two want to hang out together?"

"We need to learn how to share you."

A laugh slipped past Chanhee's lips before he muttered, "it sounds like you're going through a divorce."

The girl quickly shook her head. "No Chanhee," she started, "I want to destroy Younghoon in Mario kart and prove once and for all I'm better."

"There she is."

✨✨✨

"Guys—I literally was not even trying..." Yeri defended as she set down her controller on the carpeted floor of Chanhee's room, "I thought this was a practice round."

Younghoon raised an eyebrow and said, "this is the second time in a row you've gotten third place."

"I win this game all the time the—"

"You do not!"

"Shut up, Chanhee!" Yeri hissed.

A smile formed on Younghoon's lips before he added, "I think this has just proved that I'm better."

Yeri glanced over at chanhee, hoping the boy would defend her, but the younger only shrugged and stated, "that is what you said earlier."

"Truce broken!" The girl yelled before storming out of Chanhee's bedroom.

"She is so dramatic..."

"You're lucky she didn't attack you," Chanhee said bluntly, "but my mom banned her from getting physical after losing."

A small laugh slipped out of the elder, "She would probably be the one to win that anyway."

"Why did you and Yeri all of the sudden decide to get along?" Chanhee asked softly as he set the controllers neatly on the tv stand.

Younghoon intently watched the boy tidy up the mess Yeri had made before shrugging. He assumed that Chanhee knew all the things people said about him...yet he couldn't bring himself to break the news. "It just happened..."

"It means a lot that you still tried...even if it didn't last long," the younger said quietly.

Younghoon shrugged before whispering to himself, "it was for you..."
