"Hey," Chanhee whispered the same way Younghoon did every day in class when he began to get the least bit bored. There hadn't been many whispers throughout the week and Chanhee wondered if maybe the elder had grown tired of starting all the conversation.
Younghoon turned to look at the boy and sent him a quick smile. "Hi," he responded softly. There was so little energy left in his body it almost pained him just to speak.
As he took a few quiet moments to examine Younghoon, Chanhee noticed the slight difference in opacity under his eyes and the unkempt state of his hair. It took everything for the younger not to reach out and comb through the boy's hair with his fingers. "Do you want to hang out again today?"
Closing his eyes briefly, Younghoon tried to focus on the younger's words; however, he couldn't seem to give him his full attention. "I have to practice after school," he explained.
Chanhee let out a small hum, "why? The seasons over."
"I just have to," Younghoon said softly. He didn't quite have the words to explain why, but now more than ever he knew he had no choice.
"I have some stuff to sort out for student council if you...want to go after?"
"You'd wait for me?"
"Yeah," Chanhee answered quickly, "I'd wait for you."
A wistful smile flickered across the boy's face when he heard Chanhee's answer. That one meaningless statement felt like a promise to Younghoon, one that nobody had ever made before. "Ok..."
✨✨✨
"Does this mean you're done practicing?" Chanhee asked as he walked into the almost empty gymnasium. Younghoon laid in the middle of the court on his back, arms wrapped tightly around one of the basketballs.
"I think so..."
He walked across the loud wooden flooring and laid next to Younghoon in the exact position, but facing the other way. The two laid there peacefully neither of them saying a word.
"Did you finish everything you needed to?" Younghoon asked finally, turning his head to see their faces were mere inches apart.
Doing the same, Chanhee looked at the elder and took some time to appreciate his features in such proximity. As his eyes swept over every inch of the boy's face, Chanhee suddenly felt that feeling again. The butterflies is his stomach went crazy as he realize just how handsome Younghoon was.
"Well did you?"
"Yes—yeah I did finish everything," he stammered before looking back up at the ceiling to hide the heat rising to his cheeks.
A breathy laugh came from the elder before he asked, "So where are we going?"
"I'm not sure yet."
"You're not sure? You asked me if I wanted to hang out.
Chanhee rolled his eyes, "I didn't know many places to go."
"So what I'm hearing..." Younghoon started smugly, "is that you just wanted to be with me."
"You must be hearing wrong then..." the younger grumbled.
"Shouldn't we get going to...wherever before it gets too late?"
"Finally, a good idea."
✨✨✨
Younghoon's eyes slowly fluttered open as the sun beamed down onto his face. He opened his eyes and saw that he was still in the passenger seat of Chanhee's car. There was a jacket draped over his body that Younghoon assumed belonged to the younger.
"You're finally awake."
Looking over at the boy sitting in the seat next to him, he saw Chanhee doing his math homework peacefully. Younghoon let out a small hum. "Did you kidnap me?" He asked when he noticed an unfamiliar scenery through the windshield.
Chanhee slowly pressed the button on the control panel of his door that made the doors lock. "yes," he responded quietly, not bothering to even look up from his homework. A few moments of silence passed before the two broke out in stifled laughter.
"Ok, but seriously where are we?" Younghoon asked as the two calmed down.
"So we left the school and I barely make it to the corner of the street before you were asleep. I didn't want to get towed by parking in some random parking lot so I just drove to a park."
The elders eyebrows furrowed together as he thought about Chanhee's logic. "Why didn't you just wake me up...? So you didn't have to sit here for..." Younghoon paused to check the time, "two hours!? I've been asleep for two hours!?"
A confused laugh slipped out of Chanhee before he asked, "Do you like have to go somewhere or...?"
"No I just—weren't you bored?"
"I just assumed you needed to sleep since you fell asleep so fast...plus you just didn't seem like you were having a good day."
Finally pulling the jacket off of him, Younghoon shrugged. "I wasn't having a bad day..."
"You looked like you were going to pass out in class." Chanhee reached across the car to place the back of his hand on Younghoon's forehead, "Are you getting enough sleep? Are you sick?"
The elder grabbed Chanhee's hand and pulled it off of his forehead. His fingers lingered on the boy's skin for a few seconds longer than necessary before he let go. "I'm not sick," he stated quietly.
"But are you getting enough sleep?"
"I've been having a hard time falling asleep lately..." the boy admitted.
A small frown formed on Chanhee's lips, "Do you know why? Is everything okay?"
"Yeah, everything's fine," Younghoon whispered, not quite knowing if he should be comforted or overwhelmed by Chanhee's barrage of questions.
"Give me your phone."
"Why?"
"Just give me your phone."
Younghoon quickly unlocked his phone and handed it to the younger. "I don't know you're so demanding..." he grumbled.
Chanhee typed away at his phone for a few moments before handing it back, "call me when you can't sleep—I'm usually up late anyway."
"I wouldn't want to bother you..." the elder said softly as he tried to hide the smile forming on his face at the fact he now had Chanhee's number.
"I won't mind."
