TW: Abuse

~

It was supposed to be a simple interview.

The Japan National team talked about their biggest challenges and goals. What it was like being around one another. Relationships, friendships, declarations.

It was supposed to be a simple interview.

Until Bokuto realized...

His previous life was publicized enough for anyone to take and read.

It apparently didn't take much to pull out the records of a child from Tokyo with a checkered past.

"I'm here today with Bokuto Koutarou, Hinata Shoyo, Ushijima Wakatoshi, and Kageyama Tobio!" The woman declared, a bright smile on her face while she glanced at the camera.

"Hello," Ushijima said quietly. Kageyama nodded at the Camera while Hinata grinned and waved.

"Hi!" He greeted excitedly.

"Mornin'!" Bokuto hummed, leaning back in his chair.

"So, I hear nationals are coming up soon," she started.

"You heard correct," Ushijima agreed.

"Are you boys nervous?"

"Nope! We're gonna do great," Bokuto promised.

"But, Shoyo always gets a stomach ache before the game," Kageyama added, earning a playful smack and glared from the spiker. "It's true, we almost got disqualified because we were late."

"Be quiet," Hinata grumbled.

"I'm sure it's nerve-wracking," the reporter declared with a smile. "Anyone at home cheering you on?"

"I've got my sister and my mom coming to most of my games!" Hinata declared. "Sometimes they travel with Tobio's sister." Kageyama nodded.

"That's right, you two grew up in the same district and went to the same school."

They both nodded.

"What about you?"

Ushijima kept a straight face as he spoke.

"My partner is busy with work but always cheers me on from the TV. I know I'm always being watched when I play."

Bokuto swore he saw the smallest of smiles flicker on Wakatoshi's lips.

"And what about you, Bokuto-sama?"

Bokuto grinned.

"I've got family."

"You're two sisters, of course," the reporter agreed. "Tell me, do you think the recent passing of your father will affect your game?"

Bokuto froze.

"Sorry?" He murmured.

"I only ask because of the abuse he put you through."

Bokuto stared.

"Excuse me?" He asked.

"He abused you for a good portion of your life since childhood I believe." She tilted her head. "Do you feel at peace knowing he's gone?"
