Their parents stared, perplexed by their son's actions. They left without a word, speechless at the whole display. Mezo looked down at Nezu who returned to his desk and sipped his tea calmly, "Nezu, please. Just give me a few days to figure everything out." He told the little mouse.
"Have you figured out who the guardian will be?" He asked.
"I will be her guardian." Mezo replied.
"No, that won't work." He shook his head. "You would need an adult to be both of your guardians. That's how this law works, once you find them I'll forgive this trickery and let Rya stay here at UA."
Relief washed over both of them, "Thank you, Principal Nezu."
"Get to it." He shooed them out of his office and they walked back to class. They walked in silence for a minute, Mezo couldn't stand the quiet. He looked over at his sister who looked like she had better days, "I'm sorry I didn't tell you, Rye."
"You should've. We never keep secrets." She said wiping a tear from her eye.
"I just wanted you to be happy again, that is all I want to see."
Rya rushed to hug her brother as tight as she could. She buried her face in his torso and squeezed him tightly. She loved Mezo so much for what he'd done for her, No one else would e thought of emancipation for their sisters happiness! He went above and beyond, all to make sure his little sister was happy. Mezo Shoji was the best brother in the world.
"I love you, Sho-Sho." She pouted. "I can't believe you'd do this for me."
"I'd do anything for you, Rye. You should know that by now." He ruffled her hair. Rya didn't want to let go of the brother who protected her all of these years. She held him tighter, her will to keep holding onto him getting stronger. He stooped down to meet her electric eyes, "Don't worry about anything, okay? I'll take care of everything."
"Who are we going to have as a guardian?" She asked. "We don't know anyone who is willing to do that for us."
"You might be surprised. Don't worry, no one will take you away from me again. I promise you."
"Thank you, Sho-sho."
"Anytime, Rye. Come on, we're missing class." He stood back up and they returned to class. They listened to their Sensei's lesson and all the class stood to leave. Aizawa pulled Mezo aside and noticed his brooding demeanor, "Is everything okay?" He asked.
"Honestly, no but it's nothing you can help with. I have to do this on my own."
"Can I at least know what's happening?"
Mezo was hesitant at first but eventually told Aizawa what had happened in the office earlier. How he forged his parents signature on the application and cost their parents quite a lot of money. Aizawa listened carefully to him, not many of his students would know it but he did care for them all. He hated that they struggled sometimes and had to endure on their own. There was only so much a teacher could do.
"So, now I have to find a guardian for both of us." Mezo rubbed his head in annoyance. Aizawa laid a comforting hand on his shoulder and met his eyes, "Everything will work itself out."
"Thanks, Sensei." He gave his teacher a weak smile and left the classroom.
Rya knocked on Sato's door, as he opened it he saw the look on her face.
"May I come in?" She asked him. He opened the door a bit wider for her to walk in. His room was nothing like she imagined, it was simple. Not even a picture hung upon the wall. His bed had a plain yellow comforter with green pillows. He had a table in the middle of his room covered in a yellow table cloth and had a tiny kitchen in the corner of his room. How cute.
"Wow, you're a simple man." She said looking around.
"Why, Thank you." He crossed his arms, observing her as she looked about the room. "This room is simply where I sleep. I live in my old room in my parents house." He smiled at her.
"Speaking of parents." She shot her blue eyes up at him. "Mom and Dad came to get me today. They didn't know I was enrolled here until they got a call from the private school saying I wasn't there at orientation."
"I know. Mezo told me everything a while back ago. How did the little reunion go?"
"Terrible. I never forgot how much I despised them, they always say the worst things to make you feel as if there's something wrong with you."
She crossed her arms, sitting on his bed. He stood there observing her for a minute. "Sorry, I should've asked to sit down."
"Nonsense. You're welcome here. You don't need to ask for anything." He sat next to her. "So I'm guessing seeing the parents was a bit stressful."
"Yes it was. And now Mezo and I have to find a guardian within a few days. Sho-sho can't be my guardian since he's underage."
"Oh." He started feeling frustrated for her. "What happens if you don't?"
"I will be sent away to that Private school I hate."
Sato felt a pang of fear in his chest, sent away? No. Not now! He couldn't help the natural reaction of holding her close in his strong arms. He just found someone that liked him for him and now life was going to snatched her away from his grasp?! He wouldn't let her go without a fight. "Rya." He told her softly. "Whatever happens in the next few days, I want you to know something."
"What is it, Sato?" She turned to see his face filled with profound worry. She cupped his face with her hands and stroked his cheek with her thumb.
"I love you."
