"You're really smart, Rya. I never knew these fish existed."
"I read about them in a book back in boarding school. I was amazed that such a beautiful fish was more comfortable being hidden from the world than being put on display. If I had this much beauty, I would want everyone to see."
"You are though."
"Huh?" She looked up from her dazed staring at the fish.
"You are more beautiful than the fish. Let people see."
There it was again, the disbelief crept in again but this time before the doors of her heart shut a little bit of his words snuck in through the cracks. He was saying something that he believed was true but alas Rya still could not see. The words that had crept in and made a home in her heart formed a blush upon her cheeks. "...Thank you."
"It's the truth." He smiled.
She looked into his deep brown eyes and her face curved into a bashful grin. Sato stood up, offering his hand. "Looks like they're about to start a bonfire on the beach. It would be a good chance to play a song."
She took his hand and he pulled her up with ease. She felt like she didn't weigh anything when he helped her up, he was so strong. They walked together back to the beach and wrapped herself up in a towel. Once she was dry enough, she dressed and put on her black hoodie.
Rya shivered, sitting next to the fire that Sero, denki and Kirishima made. The sun was starting to set and everyone was relaxed and free from the stresses of the day. Rya took out her ukulele and started to strum it, the class listened intently to the music and admiring the sound it made. "I've been down, I've been down. Burning up like fever. Better days better days are not so far away..." she sang out. The class looked at her amazed, hearing her lark like voice. "I don't want to waste a minute, but if I got to waste a minute. I'd spend it trying to get my vibe on track..."
Sato stared at her through the glow of the fire, admiring her voice. The way she sang seemed to blanket everyone with peace, washing their worries away.
"But I'll keep praying I'll make it
Like someone worth saving.
I still got some fight left inside me."The class cheered a little hearing that and got into the song, singing along until she finished. "Wow, Rya. Your voice is amazing." Mina said.
"Thank you."
"Where did you learn to play that?" Iida asked. Rya looked down at her strings, and then back up at them.
"I taught myself." She shrugged.
"That's badass." Kirishima replied.
"Can yo sing us another one before we have to leave? We love your voice." Momo asked nicely, laying her head on Tsus shoulder.
"Okay. Last one for the road." She tuned her little instrument and started to play once again, "I'm looking for a summer vibe. Got me turning on the radio. I gotta kick these blues. Working all day, trying to make pay, wishing these clouds away...."
Everyone stayed silent, not wanting to miss a word that came from her lips, something about her voice made them feel relaxed and free free from the cares of the world.
"With you by my side, Catilac ride. Jamming with the boys, bonfire at night. Summer vibe, summer vibe. I payed my dues, got nothing to prove. Laying on the dock just talking to you...Summer vibe.."
A few of the students knew the song and joined in, eh-o, eh-o, eh-o wop, bop a way oh!" Rya laughed and finished her song so they could all leave. Mezo, hoisted her up on his back, his appendages wrapping around her to keep her warm. Mezo really did spoil her, she didn't even have to ask. He knew what she wanted before she even spoke. She was shivering but the warmth of his webbed arms made the shaking cease. But the time they reached UA again, they were all so tired from the happy trip that most of them went to bed. Mezo dropped Rya off at her room and hugged her good night. She took a shower, warming up her shivering bones and cleaning the sea water off of her. She felt so warm and cozy after stepping out of the hot water and into her warm cat onesie. She walked back to the kitchen to make herself some hot cocoa for the cold night and sat down on the couch. Sato was t tired either and decided to watch tv before bed. Rya was too short for her head to be seen over the top of the sofa and it startled him to see her sitting there in her little cat suit. "Jesus, Rya!" He jumped.
She burst out giggling, seeing his reaction, "Haha! Oh my god your face."
"Very funny." He sat down with her. "What are you doing up?" He asked.
"I'm not tired."
"Me either...not yet anyways. You seemed to have sang the rest of the class to sleep though. That's a powerful voice you have."
"You say a lot of nice things." She observed.
"Is that okay?" He asked. Rya nodded and giggled at his question.
"I'm just not used to it, that's all."
"Get used to it, Kitty cat." He said playing with her hoods cat ears before flipping through the channels. Rya sipped her hot chocolate in silence for a little while, watching whatever show he decided to watch. Sato glanced over to her and noticed her staring, "What's up?"
"Huh? Nothing. Sorry." She looked down and blushed. "I must be tired." She went to get up but he kept her from leaving, " you looked like you were about to say something."
"It's nothing. I must be exhausted." Rya denied wanting to say anything but Sato saw it in her eyes.
"It's okay, Rya. Talk to me."
