Sato woke up to the birds singing on the window of Rya's room. He looked down at her, clutching his shirt while she slept. He didn't want to disturb her, who knows the last time she had such a good sleep. They had class unfortunately, he had to wake her up.
"Rya." He whispered. "Wake up." Her long blue hair was combed back with his fingers so he could see her peaceful face. "Kitten, wake up." He said a little louder for her to hear. Her eyes slowly opened, meeting his brown eyed gaze. "Morning, sleeping beauty."
"Morning." She stretched and yawned before she sat up in her bed. "How did you sleep?"
"Like a baby. You?" He asked.
"Same." She smiled sleepily up at him.
"That's a nice change. No nightmares." He said, pleased that she had finally gotten some sleep. "I wonder what Aizawa has planned for us today."
"If it's anything like yesterday, we will be sore from it." She said making Sato laugh a little bit. She plopped back down on the bed, covering up in her fluffy blankets, "I don't want to go to class today." She whined.
"Come on, it's time to get up." He said standing up from the bed. Rya didn't budge, the warmth of the blankets were too comforting.
"Kitten, get up." He ordered.
"No." She shuffled about under the covers. He approached the bed and scooped her up in his arms. He threw off her blankets and looked down at her. "Get dressed, I'll meet you in the common area." He kissed her cheek.
He put her down, her eyes following him as he left. She changed into the gym uniform and headed out into the common area with everyone else. Mezo caught up to her and hugged his sisters shoulders.
"Morning, Rye." He greeted her.
"Morning." She smiled at him. She wished he wouldn't wear that ridiculous mask, his face wasn't that bad. Once everyone had the time to eat their breakfast, Aizawa announced what they would be doing.
"Today we are doing team battles. You and your partner will be fighting another team in hand to hand combat. Your quirks can't be used at all. This is an exercise to show your full strength without your quirk. I'll meet you all out there." Aizawa headed outside to wait for his class. Sato came out and sat next to Rya who looked a bit worried, "Did he already announce the activity?"
"Hand to hand combat with another team, no powers." She told him quickly.
"Damn, Mr. Aizawa isn't playing around today." He shook his head.
"I don't know if I'll be strong enough to win his challenge."
"You are quick on your feet, I've seen you in training. Let me be the muscle and you can be the brains." He shrugged, solving the problem.
"Okay...sounds good." They headed outside where Aizawa was waiting for them all. He paced back and forth in front of the class for a moment, sizing them up before he spoke, "Hand to hand combat takes logic, skill and strength. In battle, some situations only rely on how capable you are without your quirk. Relying solely on your power is lazy and foolish and in some cases can get you killed. Today we will see what you are all able to do when your quirk is taken away."
A few of the classmates looked a little worried about the challenge, how would they all prove to their Sensei that they were able bodied without their superpower? "I'll be pinning teams against eachother." He pulled out a simple green bandana. "Each of you will have one of these tied to you, the object of the challenge is to capture the handkerchief from both opponents to win. So it's basically capture the flag, fighting style. The team who gets the best time in capturing both flags will sit out while the rest of the class fixes up the look out spot and gets to be the first to use it." He looked at Rya specifically. She gave him a determined look, she wanted that reward.
"First face off is Mina and Kirishimas team with Jiro and Denkis team."
Rya watched the spectacle, trying to learn from the fight. They looked like gladiators battling to the death at the Colosseum. The ground was still muddy from the rain and by the time Mina and Kiri won, they were covered in mud.
"Sato and Rya against, Bakugo and Sero." Their Sensei announced the next battle. Bakugo locked eyes with her, snarling like a rabid dog. He was determined to make sure she lost this battle. Sato stepped in front of her, cracking his knuckles in the process. The fight started and they all circled eachother, waiting for the first move. Rya had to think, where were their flags? Sero's was around his left arm and Bakugo tied his around his head. She had to go for the hardest capture and she took Bakugo as her opponent. Sato looked at her surprised, what was she doing.
Sato's bandana was tied to his wrist and Rya's was tied to her ankle. Since she would be constantly moving about, it would be harder to get there. Bakugo lunged at her full force and started to fight with her, the rage he had gave him brutal strength as he started to fight her. Rya had to think quickly to block his moves, he was almost too skilled for her. She had to trust her body's instincts as she fought. Baku threw a punch at her and she ducked, sprang up and reached for his flag but he kicked her stomach making her fall into the mud.
Sato pulled her up and they continued their battle, Sero blocked Sato's attempts on his flag but in the end he caught it. Sero and Sato left the battle ground and it was only Bakugo and Rya. She had to get at his flag but it was in a place where he would know if it were removed.
"Make a move Cry Baby!" He taunted. Her pupils dilated hearing the words. What did he just say?
