Throughout the weekend carriages carrying guests from all the nations flocked into the village in preparation for the wedding.

Mai was locked away in her room by strict orders from her Parents. Only five people were allowed to see her. Saya, Akira, Yugito and her Parents.

All the windows were sealed and guarded. And so were all doors around the compound. It felt like a prison.

Her hearing was the only thing she could rely on to make sense of the outside world.

*Mai's POV*

I asked Saya and Akira; "What's it like outside?"

"My Lady they are preparing the hall for tomorrow's event. Lady Hokage has set a public holiday in place so that all important officials, politicians, elders, Shinobi and Kunoichi's from all Lands can attend. All ANBU from all the Lands will also take turn guarding and then rotating so that all can also attend." Saya chirped.

"Sweet girl, everything looks elegant, I assure you that you will be stunned!" Akira said as she cupped my cheeks.

I sighed.

I don't know how to feel about this, now that it has dawned on me that my wedding is in hour's and no longer day's.

I haven't even met the "husband to be".

My eyes swelled up with tears as I broke down.

"Oh dear child!" Saya said as she embraced me.
"We will be right here with you!" She said reassuringly.

"Always!" Akira chimed in.

Suddenly the doors swung open!

"Ladies..." she said as if it was a greeting.

And on cue both women stood up.

Then her gaze turned to me.

"Get up child and face me!" She said sternly.

I tried pulling myself together as I stood up. Trying to calm myself down in between sobs. Then I brought my head up so she could see my swollen and flustered face.

"Mother," I croaked.

"Child, I do hope that those are tears of joy!"

I couldn't even bring myself to react.

"Very well, I wanted to be the very first one to have this talk with you. Your marriage is a symbol of strong ties, it boosts your Father's status, DO NOT EVER FORGET THAT!"

"Now I need you to stop crying and fix your face. Tomorrow is a big day and so I'd appreciate if you did not embarrass the Tenzo name or it is I you'll be dealing with!"

She took a deep breath and continued;

"On that note all your belongings are packed and already moved to Hatake's residence, you should start saying your goodbyes to your handmaidens as tomorrow will be your final day with them. Because as of tomorrow you will be a Hatake and will no longer require the services of these two." She said as she walked to the door and let herself out.

No remorse. No emotion, just a cold shoulder.

I dropped to the floor and started to hyperventilate. These women are the reason I was well taken care of. They are my life. They were more of a mother than my own.

I sat catching my breath. No tears came out. I was just trembling.

"I'm sorry Ladies!" I said as I bowed down in front of them kneeling down.

They both gasped.

*Saya's POV*

What is she doing?!! My mind panicked.

This cannot be.If anyone was to see her then we'd be in trouble.

"Lady Mai what is this???!!"

"You simply cannot bow to mere servants, Please I beg of you, stand up!" I pleaded.

She kept her head down as she spoke;

"You are not just mere servants, you are my Ladies. You have cared for me more than my own blood. I truly care and love you two. I will forever be indebted to you both!"

"My Lady!" I said as I kneeled beside her, embraced her and started crying.

*Akira's POV*

They were both crying and I couldn't contain it anymore.

This sweet little girl that we took care of and watched her grow was kneeling and bowing in appreciation of what we had done. Never in my life have I ever been acknowledged. But here she was in front of us showing us the greatest form of respect. Yet it felt wrong. It was an honor to have raised such an amazing human like her.

As these thoughts seeped into my mind, tears poured out of my eyes.

"My sweet girl!" Was all I muttered as I dropped down and embraced her.

Me and Saya calmed her down and brought her back to the sofas.

"My dear girl, we will make our farewell an amazing and memorable one, as we will make sure that you will be the most stunning bride all these men have ever seen, you will look divine!" I said as I smiled.

Saya then chimed in;

"Yes you will my dear, we will make sure of that!"

*Third person POV*

Both women exited as Mai sat in front of her vanity mirror, staring at her own reflection.

Thoughts flooded her mind as she saw herself. All the "what if's", "what could's" and "what should've been", came rushing in.

She no longer wanted to cry. She felt it weighing down on her and hated it. She wasn't a helpless little girl.

She took a deep breath and stared directly into her eyes from her reflection and mouthed, "you've got this!"
