Chapter 60: The End (Part 3)

*Kakashi's POV*

The moment the medic team took her body away I felt my heart aching.

Asami came to my side while the children were being taken care of my her parents and hand maidens.

"We need to head home, the ANBU will clean up this mess on behalf of you Lord Hokage!" Asami said as he stared at me with pity.

I simply nodded. I was still coming to terms with what just happened.

"She's really gone!" I said as hung my head between my knees.

"Kakashi, you have-,"

"Everyone that I became close with...Died!"

They always died, because of me!

"She didn't deserve this, if she never agreed to mar-,"

"No matter what you say, we can't bring her back!" He said as he placed his hand on my shoulder.

That hit me like a lightning bolt straight to the heart.  I didn't want to believe that she was gone but I was brought back to reality with those words.

"She loved you Kakashi...she really really loved you!

*Mini Time Skip*

As we made our way back to out homes, I couldn't bring myself to enter our house. The very place that she made hers.

Every inch of this house was done up to her liking. This was her territory and I couldn't bare the thought of going in and calling out knowing I won't get an answer from her.

"Mai please tell me what to do, ANYTHING!!!" I said as tears fell from my eyes.

"Lord Sixth," a familiar voice called out,

"Akira, sorry... I just-,"

"You miss her!"

I nodded as I looked up to the starry sky.

"I watched her grow up, each and every step she took I was there."

"Not once did she disrespect me, not once did she ever treated me like I was beneath her, she was always nice. She grew up into a beautiful Lady, once you had the honor to marry."

I chuckled as memories of meeting her came into my mind.

"She was upset beyond measure, but she stayed and agreed, not long she fell in love with you and never in my life have I seen her smile that much... you've made her the happiest she's ever been!"

"Any-who if you'll excuse me Lord Sixth I'm here to get some of the children's things," she said as she bowed and made her way in.

I watched the night skies as memories of when I first saw her came into mind.

Flashback:

"Excuse me Sir can I ask you a question?"

The woman asking was a mature woman but judging from her formal language and her lack of knowledge of who I am, I'm guessing she is a maid of the Tenzo household.

"What did you say?" I replied as I slowly moved the book down from my face.

"I said, can I ask you a question!"

The moment I looked up I saw her.

She was walking around greeting people, by the looks of most of the men, this is the first time they've seen her.

I couldn't keep my eyes of her. Her beauty radiated throughout the hall. But under all that I could tell she was overwhelmed. She was putting on a damn good show.

"She's off the market!" The woman said as she shot me a cold stare.

I know she's off the market. She's being forced to marry me!

"She's the reason why you're all invited her. This is her welcoming party. She's supposed to be meeting her soon to be Husband!" The woman said with a proud smile.

Man they must be proud of her.

She's too beautiful to be married off like that. I'm now guilty for being one of the reasons she's forced to do this.

"On that note, do you happen to know a certain Kakashi Hatake?" She questioned,

I gave her a puzzling look.

"I'm guessing you work for the Lord and Lady, right?"

The moment she was about to reply The Lady was already a few feet away.

I wanted to stay and meet her but something in me just told me to go, and so I did. I quickly flashed stepped into the room.

I grunted in frustration as I entered. I didn't want to be that person. She's young and deserves more. Not me.

I couldn't help but admire her. From then on all of our next encounters were made me draw close to her and when we finally settled I couldn't stay away from her.

Flashback end.

How does one function after losing the love of their life. The one thing that was good. The only reason I smiled and forgot my pain after so long.

How do I go back to normal?

How do I cope?

How do I raise our children?

I just wanted Mai back. I wanted my wife back. I should've taken better care of her. I promised her nothing bad would happen. I should've never let her into that room.

"Lord Hokage, I must take my leave now, but do excuse me when I say this,"

I nodded and faced her.

"Lady Mai wouldn't want to see you like this... I can hear her voice scolding you for being like this!"

I knew she was right.

"Her parents are making the funeral arrangements, they knew you would take it hard, her Mother is devastated, she see's her in Kushina and it breaks he heart... Anyways I shall take my leave!" She said as she paced away.

When Kushina grows up she will be a reminder of Mai!

I swear on my life I will protect my children, Our children. I did not want to disappoint her.

I gathered all the courage I had left and walked up to the front door.

The moment the door open, a gust of wind blew by, I could smell her Vanilla mist scent, as I laid my eyes in the empty house my heart broke. I was vulnerable.

I didn't want to do it but I just wanted to be sure this wasn't a dream.

"Mai, I'm home!" I said with eyes full of tears.

No answer.

"MAI I'M HOME LOVE!"  Still no answer,

I shut the door and slid down against it as realization kicked in. She's never coming back!

For so long I had held back my emotions, but this...this moment, I could no longer contain it as I succumbed to my emotions and let it all out.

I threw my head back into the wall repeatedly as I screamed her name.

"Kakashi,"

"Kakashi,"

"Kakashi listen to me,"

I was at the edge... I could now hear her voice,

"Kakashi.... Love please!" She pleaded,

My eyes squinted, as I tried opening them...

"MAI......"
