Chapter 4: The Strange Man

*Mai's POV*

I walked into the room filled with extravagant decor and furniture. An amazing balcony stood on the left side of the room directly facing the Hokage faces.

I made my way over to the sofa and sat down. I started to tear up again.

"Why me, why me!" I said to myself in between sobs.

Sad thoughts kept rushing into my mind.

I was about to start crying hysterically when I saw someone walking in from the balcony.

We both were taken aback.

"My apologies, I didn't mean to bother you at a time like this," he said.

This strange man with silver hair and a mask that covered half his face, only revealing his eyes.

Then something hit me. If I was to be seen with him... My reputation, my family's reputation. He cannot be seen leaving this room.

He was already a few inches from the door.

I had to stop him.

"Please do not go out!" I yelled.

"Huh..." he turned around in confusion.

"I assure you, it will be fine!" He said in a unamused tone.

"You don't understand Sir, I am Lady Mai Tenzo. I am to be married to Kakashi Hatake. If you walk out of this room, it will attract the wrong attention and my reputation will be destroyed. I begging you do not exit that-," I couldn't finish my sentence, I was already in tears.

He walked up to me and bowed.

"Lady Mai I understand, sorry for the trouble. I'll leave by other means," he said as he did some hand signs.

"Wait you're a shinobi,"I said.

"Yes." he answered,

Before I got another word out my Mother busted through the door.

I turned my head back to where he was but he was already gone.

"Young Lady you better get yourself outside.Your groom has arrived from his mission and is somewhere within the crowd!"

"Also your entourage to help you around the village is waiting to meet you, do get yourself acquainted with her outside," she said as she swiftly made her way out.

*Mini time skip*

"The name's Kurenai Yuhi, I will be your guide!" The beautiful wavy haired woman said as she bowed.

The confidence in her voice was what I needed.

I smiled and bowed back.

"Tomorrow we will set out sight seeing, if that's fine with you?"

I nodded and moved closer to her.

"Is Kakashi Hatake here? I-i I want to put a face to the name." I whispered,

She nodded and then scanned the room.

"I met him earlier when he arrived, but looking around the room I believe he's no longer here. He might've stepped aside to prepare his mission report, I'm sorry Lady Mai!"

"It's fine," I said disappointingly.

*Time skip to after the party*

Everyone was gone. It has been a long day.

I was about to go to bed when I remembered the man I met earlier.

Who was he? I thought to myself.

He was thoughtful enough to consider my plea.

What a strange man, I thought to myself as I drifted off to sleep.
