She wasn't sure how much time had passed, how long it had been since her life was a joyous one. She tried to wipe away the thought of life already gone, and it already slipped her by. "Hartman! What are you doing? Get back to work" The sound of Rick's voice unconcentrated Mila from her previous thoughts. "Sorry Boss,"  "Don't say sorry and do what you're supposed to do." Mila immediately got back to work with the painting of the fence they had been working on for the Johnson's. She's in the hardware and construction space, in reality, she was an artist, but she could never make a living out of that, especially in such a small town, so she did what she could. Rick was a good father figure to her, after the death of her parents at a very young age, Rick and his wife Pamela took her in and raised her as their own. An act she could never repay them for. When she finished that side of the fence she immediately got to sanding on the other side of the fence, to be able to paint it afterward. "Hurry with that fence Mila sundown is coming and you know we have a family date with Betsy." That was what Mila enjoyed the most, in fact, it was probably one of the only joys of her life, going to their favorite bar, Betsy, owned by Betsy Silverman, she is the town's most beloved woman, or she was, she passed away from a heart attack last year. This was one of the last draws into Mila's life, one she couldn't believe was gone. Betsy was the best part about going to the bar, her warm food, and even warmer hugs, losing her was an ache for the whole town. "Alright Rick I'm done." He understood that Mila could never call him dad, and that was perfectly okay for the both of them, they knew the love and care that was present regardless. "Okay Hartman let's load up." Rick and Mila packed up all of their supplies to head to the job again tomorrow, they needed to install a kitchen cabinet in the Johnson's home, in reality, they were remodeling their entire home. The Johnsons were good people, quiet and hard-working, and extremely generous, it's about time the town did something for them. Mila and Rick made it to Betsy's and took their usual seats by the bar,

"Come on Hartman what's wrong? is the job starting to weigh on ya?" asked Rick.

"No its nothing like that I'm just, tired" she said taking a pause between the last two words. "Well, here comes Pamela let's get the nachos." Mila and Rick saluted Pamela and they all sat down to order, and then Mila saw her, the person she most trusted in the world and who has had her back since things started changing, Mia, her best friend.

"Hartman!" yelled Mia as she burst in through the doors of Betsy's

"Schmidt" replied Mila "What do you want?"

"What, a girl can't stop by to see her best friend, dam" said Mia with fake hurt

"Mhm right, this has nothing to do with the news that Henry will be back in a few days?"

"Mm not at all actually, I mean, don't get me wrong I do want to talk about him too but actually there is something else I need to tell you."

"Hm?" mumbled Mila before taking a loaded nacho into her mouth.

"My sister's coming." It took everything in Mila not to spit out her nachos onto Mia's face when she heard those words.

"What? Why is she coming?" Said Mila sounding concerned, having her sister return was absolutely the last thing she wanted.

"Because Jeremy is getting married remember?"

"Fuck, Jeremy, I forgot they're best friends, of course he was going to ask her to come."

"Yeah so are you going to be okay?" Was she going to be okay? Is Mia seriously asking her this? She knows what Natalia did to her. How she left her out of nowhere, without giving a reason, how she thought, she would end up being married and not Jeremy. Natalia hadn't stepped foot on the town since 2016 when they were 18 years old, and now she's coming to her supposed best friends wedding in 2022 where who knows where she's been this whole time, what makes her important enough to even come.

"I guess, it was a long time ago, we were teenagers then, I'm over that now" and she really wanted to believe it.

"That's not all."

Mila now concerned for what she was going to say asked

"What is it"

"She's brining her girlfriend."

Great.
