Mikayla didn't re-emerge from her Divination practical for over an hour since the funeral ended. In this time, Harry ended his relationship with Ginny and had an awful discussion with the Minister of Magic. The Minister believed that if he could get Harry alone, in other words away from Mikayla, that he could convince him to be the Ministry's poster child. He was wrong, in fact Harry shut him down faster than Mikayla had previously, seriously he broke the record. Mikayla found Harry, Hermione and Ron up in the Astronomy Tower. She had let her psychic navigation show her the way, mainly because they could've disappeared anywhere after the funeral.
That's where Harry caught her up on what had happened while she was M.I.A. Mikayla quickly reminding them that she was completing her last N.E.W.T. as his tone about her disappearance sounded sullen. Harry abashedly looks to his feet, as Hermione asked Mikayla excitedly how it went. "I learnt a lot about what's going to happen in the next couple of months. Had to alter it a bit as I didn't want to give too much away to Marshbanks." Mikayla shrugged as she moved to the balcony, looking over the grounds as she dragged in a deep breath. She allowed her exhale to ebb away the stressed that had wound up her shoulders.
"They're talking about closing the school..." Ron told her as he joined her side, Mikayla hummed, "things will certainly be different come September." The others didn't ask for her to explain what she meant by that comment, they found ignorance of the unknown rather comforting right now. "I'm not coming back even if it does reopen," Harry told them, as he and Hermione joined them on the balcony. Mikayla nodded in solidarity, but none of them were under the illusion that she would be returning to Hogwarts either way since she's officially graduated in an hour. Ron gaped at Harry, not understanding when or why Harry had made this decision. Hermione's face however was a mixture of understanding and sorrow, "I had a bad feeling you'd say that. What will you be doing?"
Harry didn't answer her straight away, "finish what Dumbledore started. Finding Horcruxes and destroying them." Mikayla could feel Harry's on her, waiting for her to shut him down, argue with him and try to convince not to do the dangerous task but the blonde stayed silent. Hermione and Ron seemed to be watching her too, "how many's left?" She asked trying to keep the conversation flowing, "Dumbledore said that he managed to make six... there's still four left to find." Mikayla's eyebrows knitted in confusion, they had gotten the Diary and Ring, and they retrieved one right before Dumbledore's death that only left three.
Harry saw her confused expression, and pulled out a locket from his pocket, "it's a fake. Someone got there before us." Harry handed the necklace to Hermione, they watched as opened the locket to see a piece of folded parchment laid inside. Hermione passed the paper to Mikayla, who quickly unfolded it. She read it out loud, so that Hermione and Ron wouldn't have to read it themselves. The note read;
To the Dark Lord,
I know I will be dead long before you read this, but I want you to know it was I who discovered your secret. I have stolen the real horcrux and I intend to destroy it as soon as I can. I face death in the hope that, when you meet your match, you will be mortal once more.
R.A.B."R.A.B?" Hermione questioned them, hoping either Mikayla or Harry knew who it was. Harry shrugged his shoulders, but Mikayla seemed to be frozen. "M?" Ron tried, nudging the blonde gently. "I saw this note in the crystal ball earlier... or at least the signature." Mikayla admitted as she tries to recall them vision, Harry looked delighted at this news. "I saw Grimmauld Place right after, it didn't tell me what it meant but showed me where you could find the answer at least." Mikayla told them once she remembered what she had saw.
"That's a start at least. I've got to find them and destroy them, and then I've got to go after the seventh bit of Voldemort's soul, the bit that's still in his body, and I'm the one who's going to kill him. It has to be me." Harry seemed to be trying to find confidence in his mission as he constructed his plan. There was a brief silence, Mikayla silently deciding whether she should fill Harry in to what job Dumbledore assigned her. It was Ron to broke the silence, "we'll be there, Harry," Harry swung around to look at the redhead, "what?" Hermione smiled at Ron, but she took over what he had been saying to reiterate his point.
"I've always admired your courage, Harry. But sometimes you can be really thick." Harry's mouth opened to defend himself but the words got caught up in his throat. "You don't really think you're going to be able to find all
those horcruxes by yourself, do you? You need us, Harry." Hermione told him and Harry looked at his three friends, however, Mikayla looked away to indicate that she wouldn't be tagging along. The other's caught on to what her silence and avoidance meant. "I'm sorry. Harry, but I can't go with you lot on the Horcrux Hunt. I've got my own job to do." Mikayla began to anxiously play with the Sirius ring on her finger, as if begging for her father to give her the courage to tell her friends."What is it?" Hermione asks, her voice shaking as if she knew the extent of Mikayla's mission before she was told what it was. Mikayla's hands slowly reach and grip the railing of the balcony, squeezing tightly on it seemed to give her enough stability to get her through this conversation. "He wanted me to be the face of the rebellion against Voldemort." Mikayla didn't say who 'he' was, they all knew it was Dumbledore she was speaking about. "To make myself Voldemort's biggest threat, so that he no choice but to focus on me going after me, rather than you three. Giving you time to find the Horcruxes and destroy them, while saying as much lives as I can."
Ron and Hermione were shocked into silence, Harry, however, was seething in rage. "You can't! He'll kill you." Harry protested but Mikayla just looked at him with a gentle smile, "as long it's not you three..." Mikayla's blue eyes locked with Harry's green ones, "Harry, only you can end this war, only you can beat him, but I can do a lot of good too. With my powers, I can protect people, I can save lives, and I can give you a chance to get on over him. I swore to protect you, no matter what it may cost me, knowing in my gut that in turn you would find a way to save us all."
Harry didn't seem to know how to fight this. He knew Mikayla was too stubborn, that she wouldn't budge no matter what he said because of her gut tells her something she follows it. Ron and Hermione had tears in their eyes at the thought of Mikayla doing this all alone. Of course the order would back her up, but if she can avoid involving them, Mikayla will. "But just because I'm not going with you, doesn't mean that I'm not along for the ride. I will send you messages, hints if I learn anything that could help you, and just keep you updated on what's going on at home. I'll be your lifeline to our loved ones, and your loose canon when you need a quick escape."
Harry was the first to pull Mikayla into a hug, Ron and Hermione joining in immediately. "I swear we've hugged more in the past few days than we did all of last year." Mikayla tried to lighten the mood as she could feel her friends silent sobs, Hermione let out a watery chuckle but just held her tighter. They all quietly whispered their declarations of love for one another, afraid if they spoke too loudly that the embrace would end. Mikayla burned the memory of that very moment into her mind for safe keeping, letting all scary thoughts of the future float away as she gripped her friends.
In that little moment, they were truly themselves, they were no longer pretending that everything was going to okay, that they weren't afraid. They reverted back to a time where their biggest feat had been a mountain troll in girls' bathroom, the event the formed their foursome. Where they first showed their fierce bond that no matter what the challenge was, they would face it together. Where the little girl from Ireland, who was scared of her own shadow, roared right in the face of danger, quite literally as she had screamed at the troll, distracting it away from Hermione and from Ron and Harry while they figured out how to defeat the troll. As they broke out of the hug, Mikayla couldn't help but feel like they had come full circle, she looked at her tearful friends with a grateful smile and they all seemed to understand what it meant.
