A Little Late

Mikayla showed the Dursleys some of her most frightening memories; when Cedric died, Sirius died, the Millennium Bridge attack, the Burrow attack, the torture of Alice and Frank Longbottom, the Hogsmeade attack and fight in the Astronomy Tower. All of these memories were sure to haunt her own nightmares in the following days, possibly weeks, but they had to understand the severity of the situation. Mikayla pointed out the scars that have been carved into her skin for fighting against the dark wizards. She reminded them of the day Harry and Dudley were attacked by the Dementors that now served Voldemort. And it seemed that they finally realised the danger they were in.

Petunia looked absolutely devastated, she kept looking at Harry as if she wanted to say something, but the words just wouldn't come out. Dudley apologised to his cousin for jeering him about Cedric the summer before last. And once he got that one out, a waterfall of apologises about all the pain he's caused Harry over the years flood from the boy's lips. Vernon was stone faced, showing no emotion or remorse for all the trauma his nephew has faced outside of their house. He didn't apologise for how he treated Harry, he didn't even look the slightest bit apologetic, in fact, Mikayla could almost see a smile on his face.

Mikayla gritted her teeth as she stared at the man, swallowing the insults that were on the tip of her tongue. "Is that enough proof for you? Do you know realise just how sought after Harry his? How much danger you're in the second that Lily's protection charm breaks?" Mikayla asks the group after a few moments of silence, after Petunia finally spoke and apologised for not protecting him from any harm that he's faced in his almost 17 years of life. Mikayla couldn't help but feel that it's a little too late for their sudden realisation of how wrongfully they've treated Harry. She could see the visible discomfort on Harry's face as his relatives apologised, and his silent begs to move on. "Yes, we believe you." Petunia responded, looking to her husband who simply nodded.

Mikayla caught them up in the order's plan. How on the 27th of this month that the order will be arriving to bring Harry to a safe house, while Hestia Jones and Dedalus Diggle escort the Dursleys to a separate safe house. "Harry, we'll fill you in on the rest of the plan next Saturday, there's some final details we need to sort out first." Mikayla informed him as she seen him about to ask how they were going to get him away from the house as he still had the trace on him. "Finally, no one is to leave the house after tomorrow. I spotted some sketchy looking people watching the house, so get what you need to get you through the week tonight. For the week, pack and don't open to the door to anyone, other than these two people."

Mikayla pulled out a picture of Hestia and Dedalus from her blue bag, it moved like all magical photographs, the pair waving politely at the camera. "You can't-" Mikayla cut Vernon's argumentative outburst off, "I can and I am. Unless, you want to 'disappear' and be used as a bargaining chip to get Harry." Vernon shut his mouth at Mikayla's words, finding that he didn't want to be abducted by dark wizards.

"Great, glad we're all on the same page. Now I have a birthday party to get ready for. Harry, grab what you need to get changed at the Burrow. And I'll apparate us there." Harry didn't hesitate to do as Mikayla asked, leaving the room to head upstairs and get a change of clothes. The Dursleys stayed where they were, watching the blonde as if she moves to the window to peek out. "If you need anything, Mrs Figg will pass on a message to us." Mikayla told them, spotting random neighbours politely greet each other as they arrived home.

"Mrs Figg is a witch?" Petunia gasps loudly, Mikayla shook her head, "no, she's a Squip." Mikayla answers stepping away from the window, "a Squid? what's that?" Dudley asks, and Mikayla refrains from rolling her eyes at his mistaken wording. "A Squib. It means she was born into a wizarding family but doesn't possess magic." Mikayla informs them as the sound of footsteps began descending from upstairs. Mikayla smiles as Harry reenters the room, "ready to go?" Harry nods as Mikayla offers him her elbow to hold onto. "He'll be dropped home at half ten. Bye!" Mikayla chimed before disapparating, the Dursleys flinching at the loud cracking sound.

They apparate into the Burrow's sitting room, "Mikayla, is that you?" Ron calls as he makes his way in from the kitchen, "yep." Mikayla answers as Harry let's go of her, gesturing for the dark haired boy to greet his best friend. "You made it, Harry!" Ron chimes before the pair exchange a bro hug, "did you say, Harry?" Hermione's voice sounded from behind Ron, once in the room she quickly pulls Harry into a hug. "So, that's where you've been?" Ron asked in a whisper as Mrs Weasley appears to fuss over Harry, Mikayla nodded slowly, "yeah, had a few errands to run, picked up Harry and had a chat with his Muggle relatives before coming back."

"Is that Mikayla?" Molly's voice calls from the kitchen, "yes, Mum." Ron answered as Mikayla moved to make her way to the kitchen, "cutting it a bit late, aren't we?" George asks as they pass in the doorway, "not really, the party doesn't start for another hour and a half." Mikayla states looking at her watch, "what?" Fleur hopped to her feet after looking at the clock, Ginny and Hermione link up with her and the three of them disappear upstairs. "What's that about?" Mikayla questions as she heard giggles come from up stairs. "They're just excited to get all dressed up." Bill responded, gesturing for Mikayla sit down at the table next to him, which she did.

"So, you going to tell us what you were up to today?" George asks taking the free seat beside her, "nope." Mikayla responded with a cheeky grin, which made George roll his eyes, "you and your secrets." Mikayla looked across the table to Fred, "don't worry, I'll catch you up later." Mikayla promises him with a sneaky wink, that went unnoticed to all but Fred. "So, who's coming tonight?" Mikayla asks, Molly and Fred had been in charge of the guest list, Mikayla them not to make it a whole ordeal but she had a gut feeling that they ignored this request. Fred tutted, "that's a surprise, Mia." Mikayla rolled her eyes, but accepted the answer as it would be very hypocritical of her to argue against keeping secrets.

They shared some small talk, discussing food and drinks that will be served at the party, as well as what music will be played. And despite being against throwing a big party when there's been so much going on in her personal life, Mikayla was kind of grateful for the distraction. To her this party was more than just having her first legal alcoholic drink, or having a good time with friends. This party was the mark of the conclusion of her childhood, one last irresponsible act before her entire being becomes overtaken by war.

Because as of tomorrow morning, she'll have to face reality and begin her mission to become Voldemort's most wanted recusant. She is no longer protected by the rose-coloured lenses of childhood that the adults surrounding her begged her to hold to. In truth those lenses were destroyed over a decade ago, when Fergal first called her worthless, no matter how much everyone tried to deny it. Mikayla has always seen the Wizarding world for what it is, corrupt and cruel. The only difference now is that Mikayla's doesn't use her trauma as a shield to protect her from pain, she uses it as a weapon to rip open minds to their reticence of the inequalities of their world.

There was a shout from upstairs, Ginny requesting Mikayla's permission to borrow something unknown. Mikayla rose from her chair claiming that it was about time that she should start getting ready for the party. Molly agreed seeing the party will be starting in an hour and ordered everyone away to get dressed up for the event. When Mikayla arrived upstairs, she learned that Ginny was simply asking to borrow a pair of black high heels. Mikayla, of course, told Ginny that she could wear the shoes, reminded her adoptive sister that she doesn't have to ask to borrow her belongings.

Leaving Ginny on the second floor to go upstairs to her own bedroom on the third floor, Mikayla walked in to see her dress now hanging on the small hook on the side of the wardrobe. She beamed as she began to become excited for the festivities that lie ahead. Opting to have a shower first and foremost to help herself relax a bit, after all, today has been filled with high emotional moments that she's ploughed through without dwelling long enough to dissect. Promising herself to delve further into the events of today, with Fred, tomorrow after she has a good party and a proper night's rest.

Hoping that rehashing her most traumatic memories for the Dursleys viewing won't cause her nightmares to overwhelm her, Mikayla takes a deep breath. She rolls her shoulders as the hot water collides with her back, releasing a soft sigh as her eyes flutter closed, enjoy the water washing over her.
