The group of eight crowded together in a corner, Mikayla keeping her eyes on the Room of Requirement door as the others split the Felix Felicis potion seven ways. Mikayla estimated that they should about two and half to three hours worth of luck each, which would just be enough to get them through the whole battle. Mikayla refused to take any of the luck potion, not only because it would make all of their last time shorter but because she already had her Aevus powers to aid her. She felt a lot less nervous knowing that when she dodges a curse that the ones around her will also be able to dodge it.
Once they had taken the potion, Mikayla told them all to split up to surround the corridor, the second the Room of Requirement door shuts behind the Death Eaters is when they are to remove their disillusionment charms and attack. She suspected that the Order has just arrived at the gates of the castle, and that the teachers are on their way to the Astronomy Tower as Dean and Katie leave for Hogsmeade. Mikayla knew that she would have to make some dangerous plays in this battle, scaring the Death Eaters enough that they see her as their biggest target, and bring word back to Voldemort.
The only thing is... she doesn't know how she's supposed to do that. Her abilities can only get her so far, and she knows that she has a whole catalogue of useful spells that she could use but when she's fighting, it's like she can only remember three spells, and that makes her predictable. But before Mikayla could get into an existential crisis, Remus, Tonks, Bill and McGonagall rounded the corner before the whole corridor went black. Malfoy had thrown Instant Darkness Powder, revealing the invisible DA members as well as giving him and his fellow Death Eater, Gibbon, a chance to escape to the Astronomy Tower before anyone could react.
There was a multitude of colourful flashes breaking through the darkness, curses being thrown in random directions as no one could see more than a foot around them. Mikayla shattered the window behind, before attaching the vacuum charm to it, which brought the room out of darkness and the duelling commenced. For a split second everyone had paused, taking in the faces around them. Mikayla quickly counted eighteen remaining Death Eaters and only twelve good guys before chaos struck. Death Eaters were no longer sending dark curses at random, no now they had clear sight on who their aiming for. Mikayla ended up pairing with Hermione as they had three masked Death Eaters attacking them both.
One of the masked Death Eaters, clearly wasn't as well versed in non-verbal magic as the others, this was given away by him yelling out every curse that he was trying to throw at Mikayla and Hermione. The two girls dodging them easily while Mikayla sends a tongue-tying curse his way, as Hermione simultaneously sends a stunning spell. His mouth comically flying open to reveal his knotted tongue as he was knocked off his feet into one of the Death Eaters behind him, causing them both to tumble to the ground.
"Hey Black!" A voice called from Mikayla's left, she looks over briefly to see that Daphne Greengrass and Tracey Davis were running down the corridor, alongside Professor Flitwick, with their wands raised, joining the fight by cursing the two people that were fighting her and Hermione. The two Death Eaters were unprepared for their sudden attack, both of them going as rigid as a board before falling to the floor. "What are you two doing here?" Mikayla asks as more Death Eaters appear in front of her, "Brian filled us in on what was happening and we wanted to help you." Daphne responds while shoot a Confundus charm at one of the masked Death Eaters that had climbed back to their feet.
Mikayla was surprised by Daphne's words, the pair hadn't spoken much at all, the odd hello back when they were friends with Avery but after Avery 'died', they never talked again, not even in passing. "Oh, well thanks. We need as much help as we can get. This lot is particularly vicious today." Mikayla called back before disarming a Death Eater and sending them flying through the air.
That's when she it happened, Parvati had lost her wand and wasn't even trying to summon it back to herself. Mikayla heard Alecto Carrow's loud menacing laughter echo in her ears as if the whole world had stood still. Parvati just stood in front of the witch, awaiting her faith, "Avad-" Mikayla bolted towards Parvati, dodging jinxes and curses from both sides before pulling Parvati out of the way of Alecto's killing curse. The spell rebounded off the metal suit of armour, hitting the ceiling causing parts of it to crumble above Mikayla and Parvati's heads.
The two girls froze, Mikayla unsure how to get them out of this situation, Parvati still in shock from Mikayla's sudden rescue. "Carpe Retractum!" Remus yelled, a purple vine wrapped around Parvati and Mikayla's waists, pulling them out from under the falling ceiling towards Remus. He got them out just in time for the rubble to hit the floor and send dust flying through the air. "Fuck, that was close. Are you both alright?" Remus asks placing his hands on their shoulders after throwing a blasting curse at random towards a group of Death Eaters.
"Get off me." Parvati spat while pulling herself out of both Mikayla and Remus' hands. "Why did you do that?" Parvati questioned sounding absolutely exasperated, "did we do something wrong?" Remus ask sounding utterly confused as to what Parvati was eluding to. "Why did either of you get involved?" Parvati asked, but that didn't clear up Mikayla and Remus' confusion. "What do yo- do you have some kind of death wish?! If Remus and I didn't get involved you'd be dead right now, and you're here throwing a tantrum over us saving your life while we're in the middle of a battle!" Mikayla hissed, her confusion turning to frustration due to Parvati misplaced anger. "YES! That was my chance and you just took it away from me." Parvati responded, shocking Mikayla into silence, as Remus moves to rejoin the fight after another curse was sent their way.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Mikayla asks defensively, "you took away my chance to reunite with Avery. I don't want to be here anymore, she was it for me. And you just stole her away from me once again." Parvati's anger was long gone, now she just sounded like she was a few seconds away from crying. Mikayla felt guilt rack her body, she hadn't realised that Parvati was suffering so much with her loss of Avery, that she was contemplating dying to be with her again. That's when Mikayla made the decision that in the morning, she'd tell Parvati everything. That Avery is still alive, what measures have been taken to ensure Avery's safety, and how the last thing Avery would ever want is for Parvati to die for her.
"KREACHER!" Mikayla yelled, the house-elf appearing in front of her within seconds of her calling his name. "Take Parvati to join the other students. Do not let her out of your sight, do not leave her side and do not let her cause harm to herself or anyone around her. Do you accept and understand your orders?" Mikayla questioned and Kreacher immediately accepted the order and confirmed that he understood them. Parvati went to argue against Mikayla, claiming that the blonde couldn't just pull her out of the fight and set a guard on her for no 'valid' reason.
"Oh I've got plenty of reasons. With your current mentality, you are a liability. You could get someone else killed and I won't allow that to happen. We'll talk about all of this tomorrow, there's things that you don't know about in play here and I don't want to risk it all going tits up, so you need to leave. Now, go." Her last words weren't directed at Parvati, but Kreacher, who grabbed Parvati's school skirt before apparating the both of them to the Magical Literature building. Seconds after Parvati and Kreacher left, a curse narrowly misses Mikayla, scorching the wispy bits of her hair that had come out of her ponytail. This broke her out of her guilt warped trance and bringing her back into the fight, face to face with Antonin Dolohov.
