The last two days of terms flew by, and before she knew it, Mikayla was sat in her usual compartment with Ron and Harry. Hermione went to go on her rounds, offering it to do it alone because things were still awkward between her and Ron, and Ron was quick to agree with her idea. Harry filled them in with what he overheard from Snape and Draco. The information Harry shared, Mikayla was already in the know but she of course couldn't say that, so she had to pretend to be shocked. "He said he made an unbreakable vow?" Mikayla whispered as if she had to double check that was what Harry said.

"Yeah, why?" Harry questioned as he leaned across the bench to hear what Ron was about to say, "well you can't break an unbreakable vow." Ron states the obvious and Harry sassily points out that he had figured that much on his own. Harry then asked what happened if you break an unbreakable vow, "you die." Mikayla answers him, and the atmosphere became even more tense by her declaration. They all shift uncomfortably in their seats, "oh bloody hell." Ron curses under his breath, Mikayla looked at him before following his eye-line to see Lavender Brown outside their compartment.

Lavender breathed against the glass in the door of the compartment to cause the glass to fog up from the condensation. She then continued to draw an arrowed heart on the glass with her finger. She wrote 'R + L' inside of the heart, before once again breathing heavily on the glass to make her drawing more prominent. Mikayla cringed as Lavender desperately whispers that she misses him. "Lovely." Harry says sarcastically as he plays with the little cup holder in the middle seat on his side of the compartment, after Lavender leaves. Mikayla shivers in disgust at the over dramatic display from her fellow Gryffindor, where is Lavender's pride? "All she wants to do is smog me. My lips are getting chapped. Look." Ron puckers his lips leaning towards Harry, who protests saying "I'll take your word for it." Mikayla rolled her eyes, "just dump her if you're not into her." Mikayla advised seconds later.

Mikayla looked up when she heard footsteps, quietly muttering if it's Lavender again, she's going to leave. It wasn't Lavender, it was Hermione who was about to enter before she saw Lavender's drawing and she left. "I'm going to keep Hermione company." Mikayla quickly said as she stood from her seat, waving goodbye to the boys before heading in the direction Hermione just took off in. Mikayla spotted her bushy haired friend enter a compartment in the other end of the car, but before she could join Hermione, Mikayla was pulling into another compartment. She fought the grasp with all she had, spinning around when she got free with her wand raised before she noticed it was Draco Malfoy. Mikayla lowered her wand, putting it into her pocket before folding her arms in front of her chest and raising a questioning eyebrow at the Slytherin boy.

Draco looked very uncomfortable about his split second decision, and Mikayla decided to help him out when he kept glancing out to the corridor to make sure no one saw them together. Mikayla pulled down the blind and locked the door before she sat down on the bench near the window, gesturing to Draco to sit on the other bench, which he did. "What's up?" Mikayla asks trying to act as casual as possible to make Draco less wound up, but her calm demeanour seamed to make him even more uneasy. "How long have you known?" Draco questioned the other blonde, who straightened in her seat. "August." Mikayla answered him knowing what he was alluding to, even if he didn't specify. Draco gulped at Mikayla's honesty, looking up at her with fear, worry and confusion swimming in his eyes.

"I know it wasn't your choice, and I'm sorry that you got caught up in this." Draco looked at Mikayla even more confused, Mikayla sighed as she looked out the window watching the country side. "Aevus Seers are quite powerful Draco, they can invade your mind as long as you have some sort of emotional connection with them. I'm the reason your thoughts and memories are protected by Voldemort." Mikayla informed him, looking away from the roaring fields and back at Draco. "What do you mean?" Draco asked, he was so sad and afraid that it was radiating off him. "I had a premonition a week before you got the dark mark, you probably don't remember me appearing in your dreams the night before." Draco sat up straighter saying that he does vaguely remember her showing up in his dreams the night before.

"While I was there, I set up a mental block from any legilimens from entering your mind. Keeping your mind safe from corruption even from the imperious curse." Draco looked at the girl in disbelief, after all why would Mikayla Black, Dumbledore's golden girl risk her secret being blown for him. Draco has been nothing but cruel towards the girl for years, yet Mikayla sympathises with him and is protecting him more than he parents have. "Why would you do that for me?" Draco's voice was quiet as if he was afraid to know the answer. "Isn't it obvious?" Draco shook his head no, "because Avery loved you, and when she was having a tough time, you stepped up and comforted her even after she stop being friends with you." Draco blushed lightly at Mikayla's point of helping him.

"I know you don't want to do what he has asked of you, you've completely engulfed yourself in sadness and fear that you are nothing but a shell of the boy I once knew, the boy Avery once loved. I wanted to do something to help you without getting caught and risking your life, so I gave you a choice." Mikayla paused as Draco looks down at his feet as if he was shielding himself from the words Mikayla has been saying. "I don't have a choice. If I don't do what he wants me to do, he's going to kill me." Draco sniffled, and Mikayla quickly realised that the boy was crying, she quickly moved beside him and pulled him into a comforting hug.

"You and Avery weren't supposed to be involved in this war yet. Punishment for your dad's failures was taken out onto you. But you have more choices than you know, more people looking out for you than you realise. And there is no shame in asking for help, Draco." Mikayla told him as he crying into her robes, allowing himself to be completely comfortable vulnerable with the girl who is supposed to be his enemy. "It has to be you that choses which side you're on, not your parents, not your friends, not me, or Dumbledore, you. This war is just getting started, and we most likely will be on opposite sides, but know if you ever want an out, I will be there to take you in."

Draco was shocked by Mikayla's offer, he never truly realised how big her heart was, but he also acknowledged her 'hero' complex. He gathered himself together, making sure Mikayla hasn't told anyone about his recruitment to the dark side. Mikayla promised to keep it to herself, also warning Draco that Harry is watching him and is suspicious of his behaviour. "Why are you helping me? I doubt your golden boy would like it." Mikayla rolled her eyes, she's already explained why she was helping him, and she knew that he just wanted to make a dig at Harry. "I protect those who cannot protect themselves, whether they're too afraid to do so or ignornant to what they need to do..." Mikayla pauses looking deep into Malfoy's eyes, nothing but determination and pride swimming in those oceanic orbs.

"No one controls me, Draco. I make my own choices and create my own destiny... maybe you should give that a try." Mikayla got up and headed to the compartment door, before she went to leave she spun around make one last piece of advice, "when you're afraid of taking risks, feel the fear and do it anyway, because no matter what the outcome is, you'd regret not even trying." Mikayla offered Draco a sad yet warm smile, before unlocking the compartment and making her way back to Harry and Ron.
