The next day Harry confided in Mikayla, Ron and Hermione the task that Dumbledore had set him, though separately, for Hermione still refused to remain in Ron's presence longer than it took to give him a contemptuous look. Ron thought that Harry was unlikely to have any trouble with Slughorn at all. "He loves you," he said over breakfast, waving an airy forkful of fried egg. "Won't refuse you anything, will he? Not his little Potions Prince. Just hang back after class this afternoon and ask him." Hermione, however, took a gloomier view. "He must be determined to hide what really happened if Dumbledore couldn't get it out of him," Hermione said in a low voice, as they stood in the deserted, snowy courtyard at break.
"Horcruxes... Horcruxes... I've never even heard of them..." Mikayla lied after pretending to rack her brain, she knew exactly what it is but she can't say anything. "You haven't?" Harry was disappointed; he had hoped that Mikayla might have been able to give him a clue as to what Horcruxes was, especially with her photographic memory to help. "They must be really advanced Dark magic, or why would Voldemort have wanted to know about them? I think it's going to be difficult to get the information, Harry, you'll have to be very careful about how you approach Slughorn, think out a strategy..." Hermione advises and Mikayla just distractedly nods along, why did she ever agree with making an unbreakable vow with Dumbledore? Life would be so much easier if she was allowed to share her prophecies.
"Ron reckons I should just hang back after Potions this afternoon..." Harry informs the pair and Hermione anger flares up, "oh, well, if Won-Won thinks that, you'd better do it. After all, when has Won-Won's judgement ever been faulty?" Harry looked at Mikayla for help but she had no advice for him, those two idiots will have to figure it out themselves. "Hermione, can't you-" Hermione cuts Harry off, "No!" she exclaims angrily, and stormed away, leaving Harry and Mikayla watching her leave in ankle-deep worth of snow. "To be fair Harry, you're going about this the wrong way. Hermione is hurt, the guy she has liked for years, blew her off and got himself a girlfriend. And instead of being sympathetic, you just want her to get over it so it makes life easier. Hermione and Ron are nothing but bickering and blow ups, but they need to find their own way back to civility."
Harry scoffed whilst rolling his eyes at the blonde, and she shoved him in retaliation, making Harry face plant the snow. Mikayla lit up at the sight and allowed herself to fall into a fit of hysterical laughter before being silenced by a snowball smashing across her face. "HAROLDINI JAMESON POTTERY!" Mikayla roared with a crackle of laughter as she picked up a lump of snow. "That's not my name!" Harry argued before receiving a vengeful snowball to the side of his head, channelling into his ear. There was a flash and suddenly Harry tackled Mikayla to the ground, the pair started wrestling in the snow, pushing piles of it down each other's backs or smushing it into their face. "Uncle!" Harry called and Mikayla stopped and rolled onto her back next to Harry. They were silent for a few seconds before they roared in laughter, tears freezing to their red icy cheeks.
Potions lessons were uncomfortable these days, seeing as Harry, Mikayla, Ron and Hermione had to share a desk. Today, Hermione moved her cauldron around the table so that she was close to Mikayla, and ignored both Harry and Ron. "Look I know Harry is well out of order for asking you to just make up with Ron but Hermione you're icing out half of our friend group." Mikayla whispers to the girl as Ron asks Harry what did he do to deserve Hermione's silent treatment. But before Harry could answer, Slughorn was calling for silence from the front of the room. "Settle down, settle down, please! Quickly, now, lots of work to get through this afternoon!" Slughorn made his way around his desk towards the blackboard, picking up some chalk before turning to face the class.
"Golpalott's Third Law... who can tell me-? Ah, Miss Black and Miss Granger can, of course! Let's see, Miss Granger, what is Golpalott's Third Law?" Hermione straighten up in her seat, facing Slughorn as she recites at top speed. "Golpalott's Third Law states that the antidote for a blended poison will be equal to more than the sum of the antidotes for each of the separate components." Slughorn scribbles down Hermione's answer onto the blackboard beaming at her that she got it entirely correct. "Ten points for Gryffindor! Now, if we accept Golpalott's Third Law as true..." Harry was going to have to take Slughorn's word for it that Golpalott's Third Law was true, because he had not understood any of it. Nobody apart from Hermione and Mikayla seemed to be following what Slughorn said next, either.
