𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐛𝐨𝐲

XV. Burrowing.

     

     ON THE way to the salvage yard, John B, Kie and JJ kept trying to reassure Jake and Pope that they wouldn't be committing theft. "Pope, Jake, we're not stealing the drone. We're borrowing it." John B tells them. "Humans are the only animal that can't tell fantasy from reality." Pope quoted Albert Bernstein.

"Wait, did you come up with that?" John B asked, sounding amazed. "No. Albert Bernstein came up with that, but it applies to this whole treasure-hunting thing." He replied and John B nods softly. "Oh." He says quietly. "So, which is it?" Pope turned to the two in the front.

"Fantasy or reality?"

"Why are you so weird, Pope?" JJ spoke up, staring at his joint he had just rolled in his hands. "It's fantasy, but possible reality." Kie answered his question, glancing at John B who looks back at her. "Reality." He says, making her smile. "Virtual reality." JJ says as he opens his lighter, about to light his joint but Pope takes it, tossing it. "Keep the signal clear."

"You know what your problem is?"

"You."

"Nah! It's that you need to relax, man. You're always so tense!" As the two bicker and argue, Jake just rolled his eyes and watched as Kie got out the van to walk around to John B's side. "Hey, don't worry. You got this." The boy assured Kie who pointed to the back.

"It's not me that I'm worried about."

"Got it. Let's hope this works." John B said as Kie approached her vehicle that had a trailer attached to it with the HMS Pogue on it. And then the plan was into motion, Kie parked near the salvage yard as the boys hide nearby, waiting to sneak past the guard who Kie would be distracting with her... charm.

They watch as she asked the security guard for help on the flat tire. "How's it going with Kiara?" JJ asked making Jake glance at him. "It's not awkward, weird or anything." John B says making JJ snort. "Yeah. Honestly, I did not think you were gonna actually listen to me." He says and Jake rolled his eyes at that.

Jake honestly doesn't understand why they're like that with Kie, he can see how John B, JJ and Pope all clearly have crushes on her, just because she's pretty and hangs out with them. As for him, he doesn't really see her that way. Sure, he's thought of it, but he's never really... considered it because of Evie. Evie always comes first on his priorities.

"What?"

"I was 100 percent that she was into you. Jake and Pope would agree." He says and Jake shook his head as Pope shrugs. "Ehh..." He says. "So, like, Kie, she, like, definitely gave you the Heisman?" JJ asked, looking at the boy next to him. "Oh, no question. Yup." John B nods as JJ looks away, "gotcha." He says before chuckling. "Maybe she's just into somebody else." He says making JJ and John B both look at him as Jake merely sighs.

"You guys are ridiculous. Reducing Kie to nothing but a pretty girl you guys will shoot your shot at. She's literally our friend..." Jake looked at them and JJ just ushered him, pointing. "Go! Go, go, go, go." He says. The four boys run all the way to the gate where they quickly sneak into before it completely shut. They run, following JJ all the way to a warehouse where he took out a paper, holding up the lock to enter the combination written on it. The other three are on look out as they wait patiently for JJ.

Jake looks at JJ who pulls on the lock. "Do you have the right numbers?" Pope asked him right away. "Alright, so I might have the wrong numbers." JJ turns around, looking at the papwr. "Ah, damn it!" Pope says, looking away. A dog barking comes running towards them. "Oh, hey!" JJ exclaims. "That's a cougar. Never mind." John B ran off as JJ talks to the dog and Jake stood by Pope, both staring at it.

"Yeah, I don't like dogs."

Jake and John B returned to the building when the dog was gone, where they come out from behind it. John B grabs a pipe, he then uses to hit the padlock. Once it opened, he whispered, "yes." And then opened up the door. Jake glanced behind him before walking inside with John B. "This way, come on." John B says, opening up a gate and Jake spotted the luggage containing the drone equipment.

"Here." He tossed one of them to John B before he grabbed the other one. The two rush out of the warehouse and Jake of course has to make sure the door is shut behind them before they start heading back to the van.

They waited for JJ to return for a while and after that, they returned the HMS Pogue, the car and the trailer before heading to the Wreck. "Stealing drones makes you hungry." Kie says as Pope opens up the back so JJ hopped out first and Jake followed after him. "What I would do to a beer and shrimp and grits right now." JJ said as looked at Jake behind him.

"It would not be pretty." Pope says making Jake chuckle before they head on inside. "Hey, Dad." Kie greets her dad as John B, Jake, JJ and Pope were behind her. As she talks with her dad, the boys head towards the dining area and Jake glanced back right to see Kie embrace her dad so he looks away, smiling faintly.

As they stand by, waiting, John B turns to them, "so hungry." He grumbles as they stared at some person's food and Jake looks at him with furrowed brows before glancing away. Jake glanced over at Kie and her dad talking, seeing Kie look over at them. Pope and John B then wave when they see Kiara and Mr. Carrera looking their way. Jake just smiles, sending a nod to Kie before looking away.

Kie turns back to them again, gesturing. "Sit down." She tells them. "Oh," John B throws his head back and the other three usher to sit down, "oh, yes!" JJ says as they all took their seats and began eating, with Kie serving them some water in cups. Kie hits JJ's leg to make him take it off the table before pouring water for both him and Jake before she starts dancing.

She waves John B over to her and Jake glanced at her then at John B before looking down. John B stood up eventually and went to dance with her as the other three boys watched the pair. They certainly had good chemistry. But Jake's eyes lingered on them before he looked down, picking up his water to finish it.

He stood up, "I should probably head home now..." He said and pushed in his chair. "Thanks for the food and I'll pay you back somehow." He says as he looked at Kie who had stopped dancing. "No, it's fine, really..." She says and he nods before he starts to leave.

"We'll see you tomorrow?"

"Yeah, for sure. Goodnight, guys."
