THE GROUP OF six teens now pull up to the front of the police station in Kiara's car. "John B, what are we doing at the police station?" JJ spoke up from way in the back. "Somebody's gotta tell them what happened." The curly haired boy replied to him as Kie parks the car, turning to look at Jake in the passenger side just as Pope lets out a couple coughs.
"Easy there, chief." JJ says to the still coughing boy holding a joint. "Damn." He says as Jake just turns his attention back to Kie. "Alright. I'm just gonna be real with you right now." JJ says, patting John B's shoulder. "You might end up in the lion's den, but you don't go there on purpose. It's fundamental. Just like my old man always told me, you should never ever trust cops, no matter what the circumstance is." The blonde tells him. "Your old man's an abusive liar." Kiara says as she looked at JJ.
"She's got a point..." Jake said, looking at JJ who Pope now points at. "I agree with JJ. Fuck the police." He says and Jake sighs. "You goin' to the dark side now?" Kie asked the boy sitting behind her. "When's the last time the police ever helped us?" He asked her right away.
"Peterkin looked out for me, alright?" John B raised his voice at his friends making Jake look at him. "Tried to, at least." He says and Jake nods when the boy looked at him. "Yeah... they need to know, you're completely right, John B." He says and John B nods.
He reached for the door and got out as Jake turned back around, letting out a quiet sigh. Pope and JJ kept smoking in the back seat as they waited patiently for John B. He immediately turned around when he heard John B yelling, "Kie! Start the car! Start the car, Kie!" Kie looks around, alarmed as John B runs up to the car. "What? John B?" She said.
"What did you do?"
As they all yelled, deputy Plumb runs up to John B's side of the car, trying to open it before Kie drove off. "What did you do?!" Jake asked John B worriedly who slammed open the door to hit the police officer with it before he shut it quickly as they then drove off.
The next morning, the group of five teens were just listening to the radio, the other three boys relaxing in the back as Jake sat up straight, tapping his foot on the floor of the car and not being able to relax which bothered Kie a bit. "Good news for residents of Outer Banks. Dominion Power says their underwater transmission line, which will restore power to 90% of the area should be functional within 24 hours." The man announced on the air as cop cars passed by, sirens blaring.
"And still, no arrest on the shooting death of Sherrif Susan Peterkin. The state police have issued a statement regarding a local person of interest, a juvenile--" Jake reached over and switched off the radio, glancing at Kie who was about to do the same thing.
"Let's game this out. Maybe you guys can help, being the smart ones and all, but..." JJ starts before sighing. "Who are the cops going to believe? Ward Cameron or us? So the accuser is a bigshot developer, kind of lord of the island, got the governor on speed dial kind of person, and the accused... is John B, who is pretty much a homeless 16-year-old boy at the moment." JJ says and Jake just sighs.
"Thanks." John B replied. "Shit." Pope muttered and Jake looks at Kie who's staring straight ahead. "Yucatan, alright? I'm saying that's the only option. What other option do you have?" JJ asked the boy on the other side of Pope. "Enough with the Mexico bullshit. Alright? Sarah's gonna bail me out." John B tells JJ who just looked away, smoking.
"She did witness the whole thing." Kie reasons and John B glanced at her. "Thank you." He says and Jake glanced back. "Why would she snitch on her own brother?" He asked, glancing at Kie for a split second. "Not happening, bro. Okay?" JJ agreed with Jake as Pope nods. "We've gotta get you off the island." He says. "The ferry. It's the only way." Pope added.
"Yeah. Exit atage left while you still can, man, okay? Before the entire island is on lockdown." He says and because of the sirens in the distance, Kie tells him to get down. The cop cars just pass by as Jake sighs. "Sarah's not a Pogue, John B. As hard as it may be to believe, you can't just convert a Kook into one of us." He said as he glanced behind at the boy.
"Yeah. You can't stay here, man."
The group of teens now head over to the ferry, John B still practically laying down as Pope and JJ were now sitting up while Jake was the one driving, cause he'd offered Kiara. Pope had been the one to go check the times for the ferry before walking back to the car.
"Okay, alright, no." He says, holding a paper as Kie looks at him. "Pope, can you act normal?" She asked the panicking boy who walks around to stand at the driver's side. "Okay, so, um... okay, so, bad news." He tells them. "The ferry's closed, and there is this." He hands over the paper to Jake who takes it.
A wanted poster of John B, that whoever finds him gets a reward, Jake looks at Kie right away as Pope got into the back and Kie handed it over to the boys in the back. "What is that? What is this?" John B asked worriedly and JJ looks at the paper. "Well, John B, uh... this is a good framer of you." He tells the boy, showing him the paper making John B look away.
"Okay, so the whole island's lookin' for John B right now." Pope says and Kie looks at Jake. "That's a lot of money." She says, glancing at the boys in the backseat. "Congratulations, John B. You're famous." JJ hands the paper over to John B. "Okay, guys. We got to get to the HMS. We need small, no running lights--" "It's at the Chateau," Jake tells Kie.
"And I wonder if the cops got the entire place staked out. Let me think... Oh, yeah. No. They definitely have that place locked down." JJ says as Kie rolled her eyes, turning to the front. "Yeah, copy that." She retorts back.
"Let me think. Just give me a second." Pope says as Jake stretched his neck, sighing. "JJ." Pope looked at the blond between him and John B. "What?" JJ looks at him. "Does your dad still have that boat? The cigarette boat, the Phantom? The one he used to race." He asked him and JJ glanced away.
"Maybe." He answers. "You could get right up the coast, no problem." Pope looks away. "Okay, look. Okay, so... the surf's running from three to four." Kie says as JJ explains it wouldn't be easy and he doesn't know where the keys are to Pope. "Well, find them." Pope looks at him and the blond boy looked away.
"Okay, I'm thinking."
Jake sighs, "why is nobody moving forward?" He exclaimed as he gestured his hands to the front. "What is going on?!" He says as he looked around. "Can you relax, maybe?" Kie looks at him and Jake just leans forward. "I feel like no one's moving!" He says before honking right as John B looks to the front.
"Your car's on the poster." He whispers making Jake immediately turn back around. "What did you just say?" He whispers and John B pointed to the paper so Jake grabs the paper from him. "Shit, Kie." He looks at her.
"Mom, look! It's that guy."
