XIV. In C.H.U.D.

OUTSIDE IN the car, the three just talked with one another, JJ mostly staring out the side window from where he sat in the back, behind Kie in the passenger side. "Look, if Limbrey is legit, then Ward gets arrested, and maybe Sarah gets the gold." Kie says, looking at Jake but the boy is looking behind her.

She turned her head around as well, spotting Pope, the man and a blonde woman. "Does that look voluntary?" Jake asked the two. "Keep walking." The man had shoved Pope just as he asked. "That would be a negative." JJ said then looked over at Jake. "What do we do?" He says as the man now glanced back towards the truck. "They're going into the alley." He simply explained to the blond boy.

"Go around back?" Kie asked and Jake nods. "Yeah. We'll meet them on the other side." He tells them, quickly turning on the engine. "Hey, be chill. Be chill." JJ tells him quickly and he nods. "Yeah, yeah." He says and began driving down the street, the other two looking out the windows on their side.

"Where did they go?" Kie asked the two boys. "What if they went underground?" JJ asked, looking at Kie then at Jake. "Because in C.H.U.D., when they took people down into the sewers, it would turn the humans into humanoids 'cause of the radiation. And then all of the sudden, they were--" "JJ, focus." Jake cut off the Maybank boy.

"That doesn't make any sense." Kie says and JJ nods. "Right, sorry." He says as he looks back out the window. "Do either of you see him?" Jake asked the two. "No." Kie and JJ say in sync, shaking their heads.

"Right there!" Kie said so Jake pressed on the brakes pedal fast, parking the car as JJ rushed out of the vehicle with Kie, but Jake stayed there in the car as the two went to go help Pope. When they returned, the three got into the truck and Jake looked at them all worriedly. "Go, go, go, go!" JJ says.

"Who were those people?" Kie exclaimed, looking back at JJ and Pope. "That was the craziest shit. Let's get out of here now." The Heyward merely says as Jake quickly drove off, turning the truck around. Not long after, a car appeared from the direction of the house. "I think he's following us." Kie told Jake who glanced in the side mirror.

"This is a one-way."

"Go left. Go left." Kie tells Jake. "This is a one-way!" Pope and JJ both exclaim at Jake. "They're following us!" Kie looked at the Lennox who glanced at the rearview mirror. "Hey! There's another car! Turn now!" Pope yelled, pointing at the front. "Guys, just trust me!" Jake said before he swerved the car, turning onto the next road just as two people ran across the road. "Get off the road!" Jake yelled, glancing over his shoulder.

"Those were people!" JJ yells. "Jesus Christ!" Pope exclaimed next. "I'm just trying to lose them, guys, chill out." Jake tells them right away. "Where are we going?" Pope asked as Jake glanced at the vehicle behind them again. "Hang on. I'm gonna try to lose him again." He said before turning into the alley, just as steam hissed and came out the hood.

"You said he fixed the carburetor. You said he fixed it!" JJ looked at Pope. "No, no, no, no!" Kie says as Jake stops the car. "He did!" The Heyward boy said as the car stops completely. "Okay, what now, Mario?" Kie asked as they all got out of the vehicle. "Number one rule. Never trust mechanics!" JJ yells as they grabbed their backpacks and then that man's car drove into the alleyway. "We gotta go around!" Jake yells at them, running off. "Go!"

The four now run down the alley, glancing over their shoulders. "Guys, I think he has a gun!" Kie tells them. "Shit, get down!" JJ says as Jake grabs Kie's hand. "Come on, Kie!" He says. "Go, go, go! Go!" JJ yells at them. "Get to the alleyway. Come on!" Jake pointed as he then heard someone yell their name. A really familiar voice. But they keep running.

"I think I'm cramping!" Pope yells. "This way!" JJ ran to the left when they reach the end of the alley. "We might have to split up." He shouted over his shoulder. "I don't know where to go, okay? We gotta lose him!" The Maybank shouted at them, then almost ran a guy holding a bunch of boxes who drops them all. "Watch out!" Jake yells at him.

"Sorry!" Jake and Kie now apologize to the man. "Sorry about that!" JJ and Pope yell as well. "Right here!" Pope says as they reach another alley. "Here, here, here!" JJ said as he and Pope run into the alley. "Okay!" Kie panted out, running behind the three as Jake was in the back. "He's right there! Go, go, go!" Jake yelled. "He's gaining, let's go!"

"I am going, Pope. I know, I know. You guys gotta keep up." JJ said, and just as they came out of the alleyway and stop, there they were. John B Routledge and Sarah Cameron. They stopped and stared in shock at the two, like they'd just seen two ghosts. "Get in! Get in!" The two now ushered them, so Kie hopped into the cart right away. "Come on!"

Jake, JJ and Pope began pushing the cart from behind as Kie told John B to pedal faster. "Oh, shit!" Pope exclaimed as Jake moved up a bit, getting into the cart next to Kie just as the two girls were hugging each other. "Come on, Pope! Pedal, B! He's gaining!"

"I'm pedaling!" John B shouted back at JJ. "He's gaining, man!" JJ exclaimed as Jake turned around. "Pope, come on, dude!" He said but then the boy lets go of the cart and fell. "Pope, come on, get up!" John B shouted. "Let's go!" Jake reached out and Pope latched onto his wrist, so Jake pulled him so that he could get onto the cart next to him.

Just as the man reached them as well, grabbing onto the cart but Sarah smacked his arm away, "ew!" The Cameron exclaimed as the man fell. "See you later, alligator!" JJ waved as the teenagers now cheer. "See you later, asshole! Oh, my God!" Pope exclaimed, looking at the others. "Toodle-oo bitches!"

The group now arrive to the beach where they gassed up the boat and set off, heading home as they were all catching up and telling stories. Just laughing, having a good time after all this time spent away from John B and Sarah. "Anyone else starving? We need to grab some sort of breakfast." JJ said suddenly after driving the boat all night to OBX.
