XIX. Movie Series.

    

     AT THE OBX Summer Movie Series, the boys and Kie walk together towards the big screen. "I'm so glad that they're still doing this. Keep calm. Carry on." Kie says as they walk towards where everyone was setting up where they're sitting in front of the screen.

"Back to OBX life." She glanced at Jake to her right as JJ and Pope walk behind them. "Yeah." He nods, smiling faintly. "Aren't you guys glad I made you come?" She then asked as she also glanced at the other two boys.

"Ecstatic." Pope says, as JJ adjusted his cap, adjusting his cap. "You guys just didn't want it to seem like a date. But I'll admit, my couch was pretty comfy." He says as he and Pope set down their chairs and Jake rolls his eyes, laying down the blanket he brought with him. Pope leaned towards JJ, whispering to him as Kie sat down and Jake sat down next to her, setting down his backpack between them.

Kie glanced at his bag, noticing it might've been to make some distance between them. Jake looks at the two boys, hearing them talk discreetly to one another so he furrows his brows together, wondering what they're up to as Kie digs into her bag. "You guys want anything? My treat." She then asked the boys, looking over at them, just then, JJ and Pope immediately says Pepsi at the same time.

"I'm good..." Jake looked to the front and Kie nods, standing up. "Be right back." She walked off and Jake reached into his backpack, taking out his reusable water bottle.

When Kie returned, she held out one of the Pepsi cans to Pope. "Just saw Rafe, and he said, and I quote, "tell your boy we know what he did." What is that?" She asked, glancing between the three boys and Jake shrugs.

"Um... where is he?" JJ asked as Kie sat down next to Jake. "Right there." She looked behind them so they all immediately turned to see Rafe standing with Topper and Kelce, holding cups and watching them. "Great, the whole death squad." Pope says and JJ immediately turns his head. "Don't stare, bro."

"Just warning you, bro. If they corner me, I'm coming out swinging, okay? Slicin' and dicin'. I'm on edge right now." JJ said as Kie nudged Jake who looks at her and then looked at Pope and JJ. "If that doesn't work, I got this right here." JJ raised his backpack right then as Jake's brows furrow together. "Yeah, yeah. So we just gotta stay in the group." Pope agrees as Jake looked at the backpack in JJ's hand.

"They can't come get us if we're in the group." Pope tells, looking up at him. "JJ Maybank, please do not tell me you brought the gun here." Jake leaned forward, talking through gritted teeth. "JJ, there are kids." Kie says, also sounding angry. "No, Kie, Jake, I didn't bring the gun. Everything's fine, okay?" JJ said, looking at them and Jake scoffs at that.

"Oh, wow. Thank you. That's really convincing. I love that, JJ." She says as Jake shook his head, making JJ look away. "Founding principle, you guys. No secrets amongst Pogues." Kie tells them and Jake nods. "Yeah, what is Rafe talking about?" He asks and Pope looks at them. "Guys. It might go down tonight." He says and Jake scrunched up his face. "What does that mean?" Kie asked.

"What did you guys do?"

"Deny, deny, deny."

Once the movies began, Jake opened up his backpack and took out a few snacks he offered to Kie, the girl not turning down his cut up fruit and taking some from the baggy. "Thanks." She whispers and he looks away.

After it got dark, Jake kept glancing at Kie who's smiling, watchinf the movie when Pope leaned closer to him. "Wanna come with us? Gotta take a leak." He whispered and Jake looks at him. "No." He says, his face scrunched up. "Fine." Pope said before he got up with JJ. "Hey, where ya'll going?" Kie whispers.

"We gotta wring it out." JJ says and Jake just glanced at him with a weird look. "What, are you gonna hold it for each other?" Kie asked but they ignore her as they continued walking away and Jake looks back at the screen.

"Classy." He says and she chuckles softly. "Gonna be honest, I did kind of wanted it to be just us... but you asked if they were coming so I decided to invite them too." She whispers and he glanced at her right away. "Oh..." He said, looking away. "Sorry. I didn't know." He apologized anyway for something that didn't exactly need apologizing.

"It's cool... I just, you know, you get one on one time with JJ, or John B, or Pope but I realized we never hang out together." She looks at him and he nods, looking at her. "Yeah... uh, I guess it's cause we don't have much in common." He reasoned and she nodded.

"Fair enough..." She says and he chuckles, looking away. "Why are they taking so long?" He asked then out of curiosity, he looked behind him to see the Kook gang were gone. "Shit." He said, standing up and Kie stood up as well, grabbing JJ's backpack right away.

"Let go of him, Topper! Fascist asshole!" Kie went to help Pope, hitting the Kook with JJ's backpack as Jake ran to help JJ. Jake shoved Rafe away from JJ as Kie jumped onto Topper's back. As the four Kooks try and fight the three Kooks off, somehow Rafe knocked down Jake to the ground as JJ was fighting off Kelce. "Let go of me, Rafe!" Kie yelled.

"Stay out of this, Kiara!" Rafe threw her to the ground so Jake got up quickly. "Kie!" He said and ran to Rafe, shoving him making the Kook turn to him as Pope asked if she was okay. As Kelce and JJ were fighting, Jake threw punches back and forth with Rafe while Topper had Pope in a chokehold. By then, Kie was crawling over to JJ's backpack to dig through it.

She took out the gun but put it away, watching Pope get choked out by Topper, Jake was tackled to the ground by Rafe and JJ was slowly getting overpowered by Kelce. She took out JJ's lighter and grabbed the screen, holding it under it. Once the screen caught on fire, the Kooks let go of the Pogues they were fighting as the crowd scream from the other side.

"Get off of him!" Kie yelled at Topper as Rafe, Topper and Kelce backed away from the Pogues, looking at the screen on fire. "Kelce, let go of JJ!" Kie says and the Kooks did so, walking away as Kie walks over to Pope.

"You good? We're okay."

Jake slowly got up, "this is why I never come to these things." He says as Pope puts his arm around Kie. "You're a freaking idiot." He says as she wraps her arm around him as well. "I saved your ass. Come on." The group went over to grab their stuff and head home.
