THANKS TO the branches and shit breaking his fall, Jake didn't break a bone or anything, approaching his friends. "Holy shit, you guys." He said and all of them just stare at him like he was a ghost. "For a moment, I thought I was a real goner there." He laughed, brushing his hands through his hair.
"You're alive!" Pope laughed as he and JJ rush over to him, embracing him right away. "Dude!" JJ laughed. "I know, I'm surprised too." Jake laughs. "Shit, that was gnarly, dude!" JJ laughed as Sarah approached them, putting her arms around Jake's neck. "Don't scare us like that, ever! I can put it past JJ, but not you!" She said, scolding the boy in her arms as the Maybank just made an offended face.
"Sorry... sorry," Jake said, hugging her back before Sarah stepped back, softly shaking her head as she sighed. "Shit, I'm so sorry about your bike, bro." Jake now tells JJ who just shook his head quickly, grabbing his arms. "I'll get over it, plus that was the gnarliest powerslide I ever seen." He says and Jake laughs. "The pleasantries are nice, but we should really get out of here." Pope said.
"Yeah, yeah, let's roll." Topper runs with him as Jake finally looks at Kie, who had been kneeling down, hands in her hair the whole time. She slowly approached him, softly shaking her head. "Don't... don't ever do that again." She said quietly and he just nods. "I was just trying to help." He whispers and she shook her head. "Jake, you--" "hey! Hey, you kids, don't move!" The cop on the bridge shouts, cutting off the Carrera girl.
"Oh, shit, let's go!"
"Stay right there. I said stay right there!" The two hop into the backseat of the truck. "Go! Go!" They shout at Topper as the boy then drove off, right around the dirtbike crash. In the vehicle, Jake kept glancing behind them, at the Cross on the back of the truck. "Oh, shit. They definitely called it in." Topper says.
"Top, Top! Turn here!"
JJ reached over. "Don't touch... don't touch the driver, man." Topper tells him. "Topper, turn around." The Maybank reached over again but Sarah smacks his hand. "Stop. He said don't touch the driver!" Sarah shouted. "It's a liability." Topper exclaims at JJ.
"Then go faster!" Cleo exclaimed as Kie rolled her eyes. "If I go faster, that's gonna draw attention. You know?" Topper tells them. "Yeah, I feel like that ship has sailed at this point." Jake tells the Kook. "You guys are a nightmare. Do you argue about absolutely everything?" Topper kept glancing back at them.
The seating was a bit awkward in the backseat because there's five of them, with JJ practically nearly in Pope's lap, Cleo pressed between him and Kie, who was also practically in Jake's lap but neither seem to say anything about it. "Put the pedal to metal, boy!" Cleo now shouted at the boy. "Maybe put it a little bit. You're going 65!" JJ then shouted next.
"Alright. Screw it. Here we go."
"Let's just go faster." Sarah said and Topper began speeding up. "There we go! That's what I'm talking about, man!" JJ said and then they drove over the curb. "Stop, stop! We lost the cross!" Pope shouted, the others glancing back quickly as well. "Great, Topper." Jake said as they all hop out the truck.
"You told me to go faster!"
The group run over the box which Pope pushed the lid off of, to find it was not even the cross. "What the hell?" Kie says. "Shit." Sarah says quietly. "It's fake." Pope said quietly before he kneels down. "We stole a freaking fake." He said. "Of course we did. Of course we stole a fake..." JJ sounded angry.
"Pope, I'm so sorry."
JJ walks over to Pope, setting his hand onto his arm as sirens wail in the distance. "Ya'll hear that? Okay, I can't be here. My grandfather's a judge." Topper says and Jake rolls his eyes, looking towards the Kook. "Dog, can you relax? They're not gonna think some dude in flip-flops is a part of a robbery." JJ tells Topper who turns around to look at him.
