X. Full Custody.

     

     JAKE TURNS around to look at Olivia, pointing out the door, "out. Now." He demands and she sighs, walking out with her arms crossed. He follows her, closing the door gently behind them. "What kinda bullshit are you pulling now?" He asked her right away and she stops, looking down at the ground.

She looks at him. "Who is she?" She asked, glancing towards the house and he sighs. "Kie. You know her, don't you? She's my friend..." he explained and she scoff-laughs. "Right. A friend. Wearing your sweatshirt, wearing your sweatpants and holding our daughter?" She says and Jake looks away.

"You don't have any right to be angry or upset or jealous... don't you remember leaving? No note." He says and her eyes brim with tears. "My dad was the cause of that! He didn't want our image tainted, so he took me after I gave birth, then he drove me to a camp for troublemaking teens where he and my mom just left me. That's where I've been the past year." Her eyes are filled with more tears and he backs away, taken back.

"But when I came back, I immediately started to fight back to them, told them I want full custody of her, told them I will work hard for us, and that they didn't have to worry about us. My dad being who he is, agreed and said he'd help me, being a lawyer and all..." She looks away and Jake glanced away, pursing his lips.

He shook his head, "no... no full custody." He denied and she scoffs. "What do you mean? She is mine! I carried her for nine months, at most you're just a sperm donor!" She hit his arm and he looked at her. "Yeah? Well, you're just a surrogate because you just gave birth and left me with no warning!" He raised his voice back at the girl who gasped.

"That's not fair." She said as more tears fell. "It wasn't either that I was left to be a dad at the age of fifteen..." He furrows his brows and she sighs. "I'm sorry. Okay? My dad is a Kook, what do you expect?" She asked and he nods. "You're right. Your dad's a Kook, you're a Kook, so I should've known better." He tells her.

"I'm going to take this to court, okay? You're a Pogue, look at you, look at your house. You don't have money and you have shitty jobs, so you're definitely losing custody." She says and he furrows his brows. "You're crazy. I've been taking care of her for the past year!" He says and she just walked away. "Good luck."

"Fucking bullshit." He murmurs as he turned around, heading back inside and saw his mom set down two cups of tea at the table so he walked over to sit down. "Is everything okay?" His mom asked him worriedly.

"Yeah..." He sighed and pulled the cup of chamomile tea closer to him. "Did she agree to... having shared custody of Evie?" She asked as she sat down, taking a sip of her tea. "No... she wants to take it to court." He sighed as he looked down and she frowned.

"That's crazy... she knows that she'll win because she's a Kook." She says and he looks up. "That's what she said too." He said and she just shook her head, looking down with a disappointed look. "I don't wanna lose Evie, mom..." He says, staring at his tea in worry and she just looks at him. "I know... we won't let that happen, honey." She says, grabbing his hand and the teenage boy let out a sigh.

"I also hate to admit it, but seeing her again brought back so many memories and... I'm ashamed that I missed her." He looked down and she just tilts her head to the side. "It's natural... she's your first love and the mother of your child." She says and he sighs. "I don't want to think of her that way ever again." He said as he then raised his cup to take a sip.

"And maybe shared custody won't be too bad..." She says and he just sighed, rubbing his face as he stood up. "I don't know... I'm just gonna go get some rest, it's been a long day already." He says and the woman sighed.

"Okay, goodnight, Jake..."

When he approached his room, he saw Kie was still holding his daughter in her arms, softly rocking her and singing a song. Over the Rainbow by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole. He stood there at the doorway, smiling softly as he watched Kie look down at Evie, seeing the baby's eyes were closed.

She slowly set her down into the crib, covering her with a blanket and putting a plushy, her favourite, next to her as Jake slowly approached the Carrera. He put his arms around her waist and she gasped quietly, then relaxed in his embrace. "Everything okay?" She whispered, turning her head slightly to look at Jake who nodded softly, staring down at his now sleeping daughter.

"Yeah." He whispers and she just stared at him for a moment or so. "Was that her?" She asked now and he finally looks at her. "Yeah... that was... that was Liv." He said quietly and she just slowly turned around in his arms before wrapping hers around his neck. He hugged back tightly, looking at his daughter again. If Olivia does go through with it, he might lose Evie. And the thought of that scares him more than anything in the entire world.

He lowered his head and closed his eyes as Kie softly ran her fingers through his hair at the back of his head. "What did she want?" Kie now asks as she leaned back and Jake looked into her eyes. "Can we talk about this another time? I just wanna go to sleep. We still have to head to school tomorrow." He says quietly and she just nods, smiling faintly. "Okay. Yeah." She said and then cupped his face gently, leaning in to press a small kiss to his lips.

He smiles, staring at her for a moment before the two climbed into bed and fell asleep cuddling. In the morning, Jake woke up to Evie crying so he got up right away, picking up his daughter. His routine for her was always the same, get her dressed, feed her some milk while he enjoys a cup of coffee.

While feeding Evie some baby food, Kie walks in, "morning." She said and embraced Jake from behind. Evie cooed at the two, smiling and Kie smiled at the baby, leaning down to kiss the top of her head before going over to the coffee machine to pour herself some. "I'm gonna take Evie to my grandma's once I'm done feeding her." He tells Kie who nods. "I've gotta go pick up my backpack really quick but I'll be back to pick you up, alright?" She says and he nods. "Give me a kiss." He looked up and she chuckles, leaning down to give him a quick peck on the lips. "I'm gonna go get dressed." She said as she exits the kitchen.

After Kie left to go pick up her backpack, Jake got Evie ready, packed up her bag and took her over to his grandma's. "I am so sorry about last night, Jake. She said you and her have talked already when she came over, it was all a misunderstanding. I thought you two made up." She explained to his grandson who sighed, looking at Evie who's already crawling around the floor, playing with her toys.

"Well, if she comes by again, at all, don't hesitate to call me, alright? She's threatening to take me to court so she can have full custody." He tells the woman who sighed, shaking her head as she looked away. "She's a Kook... she knows she'll win." She says and he looks away. "That's exactly what mom said." He says quietly and she looks up at him.

"Kie's on her way. Gotta head to school now." He said as he got up. "Thank you for all your help, grandma." He says, smiling at her and she nods. "It's what I'm here for, Jacob." She said and he smiled wider, glancing at Evie. She was preoccupied with her toys, so he took it as her chance to leave without her noticing and crying for him. The woman watched her grandson then picked up her phone, dialing her daughter's number. "Mom, I'm kind of busy at work right now." The younger of the two woman says when she picks up, holding her phone between her ear and her shoulder.

"I think it's time to tell him, honey..."

this may would've been 2 years since i last updated... i am so sorry ya'll 😭😭 stranger things 4 came out and i just hopped from obx to st so fast that i forgot about this fic and the other two... anyway, i hope the hype for this fic comes back bc i missed jake and kie 🤞
