Chapter 35 - Sportsfest

Rei's POV

It's Friday, and the first game of the cycling category. It's been almost a week since my birthday, and a lot of things have happened. But one thing that we all know is that Dane has been out of the picture since my birthday. I was confused by her last words. She said, "sorry," which I didn't know for what. If it's about being late to my party or that she can't meet me the next morning, We've been contacting her since Monday because she needs to be at the opening ceremony, but no luck with her.

El Civian has a game at 1 pm, and this day was exclusively for the cycling category. They will be competing outside the university premises while we're watching them through the screen monitor that is currently set up at the gymnasium. Our school was opened to outsiders and other students from other universities, but they have their own screens at their universities. We are the host of this season's sportsfest, so technically, every ceremony like awarding would be held here.

"Coach!"

My attention diverted to Star when she screamed at her Coach. Sir Fred looked at her, "Makasigaw ka Bituan. Ano ba iyon?"

The latter just giggled, "May pinapasabi kasi si Ace."

We all gazed at her when she said that. We all know who she is referring to. We were all in the locker room while Dos, Sign, Gio, and Rome were conditioning. They will compete in the men's bracket first, while Qil will compete in the singles. Star, Kia, Zima, and Dane should all be in the women's bracket, but Dane has yet to show up. They will compete once the men's bracket has finished.

Tres hastily come to her, "Anong sabi ni babe? She's coming right?"

Lantaran ang pagkagusto ni Tres kay Dane at lingid naman sa kaalaman nila na nililigawan ako ni Dane. Naghihintay kami ng sagot mula kay Star pero malungkot ang mukha niya. Mukhang hindi siya makakarating.

"She said..."

"She said what?!" Tres and Qil yelled at once.

"Makasigaw!" Sigaw rin ni Star.

Sir Fred spokes, "Anong sabi niya Star?"

She sighed and showed up her phone, "Goodluck."

Hindi ko maiwasang mainis kay Dane dahil ito nanaman siya sa bigla niyang pag-alis. Hindi siya nagsabi kung saan siya nagpunta kaya nakatanga kaming lahat. Ni hindi manlang siya nagtext kila Cyon kaya nag-aalala narin ang mga kaibigan niya. Hindi namin alam kung may kinalaman iyon sa text message na na received nilang magkakaibigan pero nag-aalala sila na baka may nangyare na kay Dane. Pinakita nilang magkakaibigan 'yon kinabukasan. Akala nila prank lang kaya hindi na nila pinansin pero nung nagtext ulit ay 'don na sila kinutuban dahil kasama na doon ang pangalan ni Dane.

"Yun lang?!" Tres yelped.

Star nodded, "Paano na 'yan, Coach. Sinong papalit kay Dane? May laban kami ngayon."

Mukhang namroblema silang lahat dahil sa sinabi ni Star. Pwede namang si Tres ang pumalit kaso walang lalaban sa Single. Hindi naman pwede maulit ang player dahil kasama 'yon sa rules.

I butted in, "How about Tres?" They looked at me, "She's the only option we have. We're still not sure if Dane couldn't make it until next week. Tres and Dane can switch their game."

Tumango tangi Sir Fred, "Could be, but what if Dane couldn't show up next week?"

I sighed, "We have to train someone for the game."

"Wala ng oras." Singit ni Dos.

I nodded, "I know, pero may iba pa ba kayong naiisip na gawin?" Natahimik sila, "Kung maglalaro ngayon si Tres mas malaki ang chance na manalo sila. And about the game next week, we can train someone willing to sub while waiting for Dane."
