This is super hard to do.
We've all read at least one fanfiction where things move too fast.
We've all probably written a story like that. *looks back at old Naruto fanfics...*
Pacing yourself is really hard to do. I'm not that good at it. Frankly, I'm not satisfied with the pacing on my current story even though I'm like ten chapters in and Gerard's appeared like twice.
Some tips I have are:
Plan each chapter beforehand. Give yourself a loose idea of what you want to happen that chapter.
Read over the chapter. I'm guilty of not doing this. You want to catch any spelling or punctuation errors.
Use filler chapters. Small chapters that aren't very important to plot are crucial.
The last rule is, limit major plot points to 1 per chapter.
If Kellin almost kills himself and Vic saves him, Lyn-z has another kid, And Hayley Williams marries James Franco all in one chapter, something might be wrong with your story.
