I am SO guilty of this. I am such a hypocrite in saying this. Develop your plot beforehand.
Make a plot chart, the ones your middle school teachers made you draw up.
For almost every story I've ever written I have neglected to plan it out beforehand. All of them sucked ass.
The fanfic I'm currently working on, Cancer, I drew a plot chart for, I know how it's going to end. I'm proud of it.
On my old account I had a SAO fanfic up for a long time, though I eventually took it down. It sucked and I wrote whatever I wanted, never even going back to edit it.
Some stories that you wing are reaaaalllyyyy good. And there is always room for improv. I take suggestions for Cancer all the time. (You guys should give me suggestions, at this moment I've only taken requests from irl friends.)
The one story I have written that I am proud of that I never plotted was called "Mother..." I wrote it for NaNoWriMo.
I've been thinking about going back, editing, revising and maybe posting it to wattpad but first I have to finish Cancer then I have another fic I've been developing plot for.
Even if it's a cliche, predictable fic, you may want to plan it out a bit or it may go all over the place.
The plan is just loose too guys, if you do read Cancer, the whole thing at the airport (You'll know what I'm talking about if you read it) was made up on the spot. I felt it needed a bit more drama.
You can always add more and take away more but it's a good idea to know the beginning, the ending and the climax at least.
