Chapter 10

Jasper place Amir down in the front lawn. Alice catches up with them.

"James not worried about you. Victoria seems to be. We'll make sure you are safe" Alice said. "You will have to come with us though. Bella will cause a scene and you will say that you will follow her and convince her to come back, ok?"

"Ok, I'll do that" Amir said turning out walking inside closing the door.

"Oh you're back already?" Mina said from the couch.

"Yea, I had fun playing baseball. I don't know about Bella on the other hand"

"She didn't enjoy herself?" She asked.

"She did, but something came up" he said. Charlie listen to them talk while watching baseball.

The door suddenly bursts open to reveal Bella, crying, and Edward, devastated. "I said, leave me alone!"

"Bella, don't do this. Just think about it, please -" "Get out! It's over"  She slams the door. Charlie has risen, baffled, concerned. Amir watches along with Mina.

"Bella? What happened?" Charlie said.

"I have to get out of this place. Out of Forks. I'm leaving. Now" Bella said sounding angry. Bella runs upstairs. Charlie hurries after her.

Mina turns to Amir. "So that's what you mean?"

"Yea, something happen between Edward and Bella angry" Amir said. Mina not sure what to do so she let Charlie handle it. Eventually Bella comes charges down the stairs -- Charlie follows.

"Your mother's not even in Phoenix." Charlie said. "She'll come home. I'll call her from the road"

" You can't drive home now. I'll take you to the airport in the morning" Charlie said.

"I want to drive. I need time to think. I'll pull into a motel in a few hours. I promise" Bella said.

Bella reaches the ground floor with Charlie on her heels. She's almost to the door but Charlie blocks her.

"Bells, I know I'm not around much, but I can change that. We can do more things together" Charlie said.

"Like watch more baseball on the flat screen? Or go to the Coffee Shop? Same people, same steak, same berry cobbler every night? That's you, Dad. Not me" she said.

This hits Charlie hard. She can barely stand it. " Bella... I just got you back"

"And if I don't get out now, I'm going get stuck here like mom did" Bella said. Charlie is stunned, wounded. She takes advantage of his shock, pushing past him out the door.

"Um. Maybe I can convince her to come back. Mom stay with Charlie" Amir said fast walking out the house to catch up with Bella.

They exits, heads to her truck. Amir gets into the passenger seat on time as Bella drives, wiping tears away. Suddenly Edward is outside the car, near Bella's window.

"He'll forgive you. Slide over.." Edward said. Bella listen and scoot over along with Amir. Edward opens the door, sliding in, and takes the wheel. Bella slumps. "His face... I said the same words my mother used when she left him"

"It was the only way he'd let you go"  Edward floors  it. "Your father's safe now, Bella The tracker is following us -" Suddenly, boom-- a dark figure leaps onto the bed of the truck. Bella screams as Amir close his ears from her scream.

"It's alright. It's just Emmett. Alice is in the car behind us" She catches her breath. Amir look at the mirror seeing Alice driving behind them.

"Did Emmett really have to make that loud banging noise when getting in the back?" Amir asked. Edward seemed amused by his question.

"No, but he did" Edward answered honestly.

Edward, Emmett and Alice rush Bella and Amir  from the truck to the house.. but freeze when the door opens and Laurents there. They immediately take defensive positions but Dr. Cullen appears.

"He came to warn us. About James" Carlise said. They back down slightly. Laurent address Dr. Cullen. "I've grown tired of his games. But he's got unparalleled senses. Absolutely lethal. I've never seen anything like him in three hundred years ... And the woman, Victoria, will back him. Don't underestimate her"

Dr. Cullen nods thanks. Laurent moves off, disappearing into the woods. They rush to the garage. The side door burst open as Edward and the Cullens enter, followed by Amir and Bella. The lights flip on to reveal a pristine garage; the Volvo, the red BMW, a black Mercedes sedan, an SUV. Everyone but Rosalie springs into action, opening cupboards for supplies - cell phones, extra batteries, maps, portable GPS units, changes of clothes, cans of gasoline, etc. As they load up the vehicles.

Jasper steps up beside Amir. "I've had to fight our kind before. We're hard to kill"

"But not impossible. We'll tear him up" Edward said.  Emmett speaks up, " We'll rip him apart with our hands, then burn the pieces - "

"I don't relish killing another creature. Even a sadistic one like James" Carlisle said.

"If he doesn't get to one of us first" Rosalie said. Amir pulls Alice into a hug and stays by Jasper.

"This is insane. You can't put yourselves in danger like this - for us" Bella said. "Too late"

Edward shoots Rosalie a look, but he grabs two sets of keys off a hook, throwing one set, lightning fast, to Dr. Cullen. "I'll run Bella south, while you lead the tracker away - "

"No, Edward -- the tracker thinks you won't leave Bella. He'll follow you" Carlisle said.

"I'll go with Bella and Amir  Jasper and I will drive them south. I'll keep her safe, Edward" Alice said looking at him. Edward agonizes. Frustrated. Alice steps forward. "Can you keep your thoughts to yourself?"

She nods. An unspoken agreement.

Edward finally surrenders his keys to Alice. Edward grab some clothes and pass them " Esme, Rosalie, put these on so the tracker will pick up Bella's scent"

"Why should I? What is she to me? Just a danger you've inflicted on us -"Rosalie, Bella is with Edward. She's a part of this family now. And we protect our family" Carlisle said cutting her off.

She groans, but picks up the clothes. Carlisle hits the door opener and the massive metal door roll open. Dr. Cullen squeezes Edward's shoulder before he and Esme climb into the suv. Everyone finishes loading up, climbing in cars - Amid this, Edward and Bella take a moment together. Amir turn to Alice and Jasper.

"Everything will be ok once we have Bella and you safe" Alice said to Amir.

"We won't let those cold hearted people get to you. Stay close with us ok?" Jasper said.

"Then next thing you know we be having another date together" Alice smile hugging Jasper and Amir. They walk off together to get in the car. Bella doing the same with Edward when they have their talk.  The suv engine starts up and Jasper drives them off. 

The sun begins to rise on the empty road as a sleek, as the black Mercedes Sedan with dark tinted windows drives off down the street.  Jasper drives, Alice in the passenger seat. Amir looking out the window quietly as Bella is trying to reach her mom, her eyes red from crying.

She talks on her cell phone -"Mom, it's me again. You must have let your phone die. Anyway, I'm not in Forks anymore but I'm okay. I'll explain when you call" She hangs up, then look out the window.

Amir put in his headphone and starts to listen to music quietly drowning out everything. Just thinking of Jasper and Alice who are currently in the front two seats.
