Chapter 5

Amir sitting on the couch with Leah and Seth feeding Lazarus. Lazarus looks up into his eyes and slowly closes his eyes when drinking the bottle. Amir smiles and look over at Leah and Seth.

"Lotta red eyes around here" Jacob said.

"It doesn't bother me" Seth said.

"Of course, they are vampires afterall" Alec said being a smart ass. Recieving a glare. 

"They agreed not to hunt in the area" Bella said. " But they'll feed somewhere"

"They need to eat to be strong" Jane said.

Finally, Carlisle and Esme returned with our last witness. "How many came?"

"Eighteen. You have some good friends" Edward said.

"And Alice?" Esme asked. Amir and Bella shake her head indicating that Alice has still not returned.

"We'll all be on Aro's list now. Centuries on the run. That's what you've brought me. Some friend, Carlisle" Alistair said.

"Alistar, come meet everyone" Carlisle said.

"I already told you, if it comes to a fight, I won't stand against the Volturi" Alistair said. "It won't come to a fight"

"I'll be in the attic" They watch as Alistair jumps up onto the roof and walks off.

"He's not a people person" Esme said.

"I'm not a people person either, but I still have to deal with people" Alec said.

"Brother we all do" Jane said shaking her head. Making Amir laugh.

"Figures" Amir said walking inside to go feed his son and spend time with him.

The home opened to 18 vampires. Many with gifts of their own. Zafrina had power over the mind. She could make anyone see what she wanted them to. Bella watches as Zafrina makes Edward see something in the forest. Amir watches while holding Lazarus closely to himself. He's behaving well.

"If she weren't holding my hand right now, I could swear this was real" Edward said. Bella looks at Edward then around, "I don't see anything"

"Edward, you didn't tell me your wife is a shield" Eleazar said.

"What's a shield?" Bella asked. Edward suddenly understands and smiles.
"The ones I've met are so different"

"It's a defensive talent" Eleazar said.

"It's why I couldn't read your mind, even before. It's why Aro couldn't" Edward said.

"I couldn't even bring pain towards you" Jane said next to Alec.

"You have a very powerful gift" Eleazar said walking to Carmen. Suddenly Kate takes Bella's hand. "Oh, yeah, she's a shield, all right. Should have put her on her ass"

"Or your voltage has been exaggerated Garrett said. " Maybe it only works on the weak" Kate puts her hand up, daring Garrett to try and touch her.

"Garrett, I wouldn't" Carlisle said.

"He's going to though. He'll learn" Alec said smirking. Garrett touches his finger to Kate's hand and he's instantly electrocuted and falls to the ground.

"Yikes" Seth said.

"You are an amazing woman"

Footsteps was heard running. Jacob turns into a wolf and runs into the forest with the young wolves following him with Seth, they catch up and chase after two vampires who jump up some trees and then jump down and sit on some rocks mocking the wolves when Carlisle and the other vampire find them. Amir follows giving Leah Lazarus. Seth stands protectively beside her.

"Vladimir, Stefan, you're a long way from home" Carlisle said.

"What are they doing here?" Kate asked.

"We heard the Volturi were moving against you. But that you would not stand alone" Vladimir responds carelessly.

"We didn't do what we were accused of" Carlisle said.

"We do not care what you did, Carlisle" Vladimir said sitting on the log.

"We have been waiting a millennium for the Italian scum to be challenged" Stefan said sitting beside Vladimir.

"It's not our plan to fight the Volturi" Carlisle said.

"Shame. Aro's witnesses will be so disappointed" Vladimir said.

"They enjoy a good fight" Stefan said.

"Aro's witnesses?" Eleazar asked. "Aww. Still hoping they'll listen?"

Amir walk inside with everyone. Everyone has their own spot to sit and stay in. Amir stays on the couch cuddling his son against his chest with Jane and Alec on his right. Leah and Seth on his left.

"When Aro wants someone from a coven it's never long before evidence turns up proving that coven committed some crime" Eleazar said.

"So, he's done this before" Bella said.

"Yes, it seems he have" Amir said.

"It happens so rarely, I never realized it was a pattern" Eleazar said looking towards them.

"Apparently he always pardons one person whose thoughts he claims are repentant" Carlisle's said next to Esme.

"This person always has an ability. And they're always given a place with the Guard" Eleazar said.

"This is all about Alice. He has no one like her" Edward said.

"He wants anyone with a gift for power" Jane said.

"Which is why she left" Edward said.

"Why does he need witnesses?" Emmett asked confused.

"To spread the word that justice has been served. After he slaughters an entire coven" Alistair said.

"Benjamin, Tia, we're leaving" Amun said about to turn around.

"And where will you go? What makes you think they'll be satisfied with Alice? What's to stop them from going after Benjamin next? Or Zafrina or Kate or anyone else with a gift? Anyone they want. Their goal isn't punishment, it's power. It's acquisition. Carlisle might not ask you to fight, but I will. For the sake of my family. But also, for yours. And for the way you want to live" Edward said. There's a moment of silence as the vampires look at each other, then Jacob stands.

"The packs will fight. We've never been afraid of vampires" Jacob said. The Delani's stand.

"We will fight" Tanya said.

"This won't be the first time I fought a king's rule" Garrett said.

"We'll join you" Benjamin said. Amun looks at home. "No"

"I will do the right thing, Amun. You may do as you please" Benjamin said.

"We will stand with you" Senna said.

"So will we" Siobhan said. The other vampire start to step forward.

"I'll do it along with the pack" Amir said. Seth and Leah smiles glad that he joining.

"That didn't take much" Vladimir said.

" Let's hope it doesn't come to that" Edward said.

"We'll see" Alistair said walking off.

"Time to take Lazarus to bed" Amir said standing up with his son. Leah stands up with Seth. Jane and Alec follow them outside. They drive home together for Amir to get his son to bed.
