Chapter 9

"We need to talk" Amir said.

"I know" Alice said turning around facing him.

"You might be mad at us"

"Might? I am mad at you guys. You left and haven't talk to me" Amir said mad.

"I know. We had to for the best" Alice said.

"So, losing me was the best? You couldn't just leave a letter or something" Amir asked with his arms crossed.

"It would have been harder that way-" "That's how I would know you both cared, but clearly didn't" Amir mumbles looking around trying to calm down.

"We did which is why we left" Alice said.

"Leaving wasn't going to help. You both are my mates do you understand how hard it was being away from you both? I don't think you do" Amir said looking back at her. Alice is quiet.

"Exactly, that's why you're quiet because you know I'm right. It was hard for us. You could have texted me or left a message, but no. I receive nothing but my thoughts. You both going to have to earn my trust back" Amir said walking back inside.

Seeing Jacob's hand still on Bells face, his eyes searching hers. Slowly, he starts to bend toward her lips. She doesn't pull away. Amir don't understand why every time he is around, they are going to kiss.

Suddenly, the shrill ring of the phone makes them both jump. Jacob, the closest to it, doesn't move his face, just keeps looking into her eyes as he reaches for the phone.

'Swan residence" he said. She smiles. But he instantly bristles, voice going cold.

"He's not here. He's at a funeral" Then the phone goes dead. Jacob hangs up the phone.

"Filthy bloodsucker" Jacob said. "Wait, who was it?"

"Dr. Carlisle Cullen" He spits out.

"You should have let me talk to him" Bella said. "He didn't ask you" Suddenly, Jacob's eyes go wild, his body stiffens, starts trembling in the way that precedes a wolf-morph.

"Step away from me, Bella" Bella turns to see what he's reacting to - Alice. She stands in doorway looking empty, despairing. Bella immediately hurries to her side.

"Alice, what's wrong?"

"... Edward" Alice said. "What about him? What happened?"

"He thinks you're dead. Rosalie told him why I came here" Alice said.

Bella realizes and look to Jacob, "Why didn't you let me speak to him!"

"He didn't ask for you"

"Bella, he's going to the Volturi... " Alice said.

They rush out the house. Jacob following Bella. Amir walks outside with them. "He left you, Bella. He didn't want you anymore, remember?"

"No, I'm not going to let him kill himself out of guilt" she said. This wounds him. But she can't stop to soothe him.

"What about your dad?" Jacob asked.

"Please, Bella. Stay here. For Charlie... for me" Bella looks into his eyes this could be last time she ever sees him. "Amir come with me"

"Alright if anything happens to me. You better got my back" Amir said getting in the car, "Deal" she then looks at Jacob.

"I have to go" Bella said. "I'm begging you please"

"Bye jake" she mumbles out. Jacob walks away pist off. Alice takes off driving.

The yellow Porsche driving down the street fast. Amir is passed out asleep in the back of the car asleep. Bella grips the dashboard as Alice narrowly misses a car.

"I'm guessing you didn't rent this car?" Bella asked.

"I figured you won't be expose to grand theft auto?"

"Not today" Bella mumbles out. Amir wakes up looking at the road seeing they driving fast. Alice gone quiet having a vision.

"What? What did you see?"

"They refuse him" Alice said. "So?"

"He going to make a scene. Showing himself to the humans" Alice said watching the road.

"No, when?" Bella asked looking at her. "He going to wait till noon when they sun at it highest"

"Alice you got to hurry up"

The narrow, centuries-old streets are crowded with festival revelers who all wear RED. They gaily head toward the town square carrying red pendants, balloons, scarves. The Porsche weaves through them, hurrying forward.

"Why are they all wearing red?"

"San Marcos Day festival. The perfect setting. The Volturi won't let him get far enough to reveal himself " Alice said "We only have five minute"

"Bella, just breathe" Alice screeches to a halt at a road block. Italian police wave her back.

Bella jumps out and turns to her, "Alice"

"You're the only one they can't see coming. If i go he read my thoughts. He will think I'm lying and rush into it"

"Where do i go?" Bella asked. "He'll be under the clock tower!" Alice watches her go.

"I don't understand why you want to come. This can get dangerous" Alice said.

"Bella wanted me. I got to be there for her. You're not her only friend" Amir said.

"I get that, but if they see you. You be dead meat. Just follow me" she said parking the car in the shade. Getting out into the shadows. Amir gets out and follow her rushing footsteps.

They went through the crowd in the shadows together going to the clock tower.
