Amir is sitting on the couch with the Cullens living room with Alice sitting on his lap and Jasper beside him standing.
"I know. But you do protect me... From boredom... And loneliness... You give me a reason to stay... un- dead. But it's... my job; to protect you..." Edward voice coming to where they are. Alice got off Amir lap and zoom off somewhere. "From everyone but my sister" as the door bursts open and Alice dances in.
"It's time it's time it's time!" Alice said excitedly. Alice tugs Bella and Edward to the top of the landing, then skips down the stairs. They look down into the living room. Hundreds of pink candles and rose-filled crystal bowls. Rosalie, Esme, Emmett, Carlisle, Jasper, Amir and Alice look up at her, all of them stunningly beautiful.
Amir stands up with Jasper and stand away together holding each other hand. Bella would love to disappear, but Edward leads her down to the living room were Esme and Carlisle hug Bella warmly. " Sorry about all this. We tried to rein Alice in" Carlisle said smiling.
"Like that's even possible. Happy birthday, Bella" Esme said giving her a smile. FLASH! Alice has snapped a picture of Bella with them. "Found it in your bag. Mind?" Emmett moves to Edward's side. Nudges him
"Dating an older woman. Hot" Emmett said. Bella caught that. Edward elbows him sharply to shut up.
"What?"
Rosalie steps up. Shoves a silver package at Bella. "It's a necklace. Alice picked it out" She walks away, bored. Amir laughs making Rosalie smirks at him then look away.
Bella has to smile. She sees Jasper across the room. They wave to each other. Alice aims the camera, "Show me the love!" Edward pulls Bella into an embrace; they look deeply into one another's eyes. FLASH!
"Here, this one's from Emmett" Alice said giving her the gift. The others crowd around... Jasper somewhat away with Amir. Bella opens the gift to find an empty car-radio box. "Um... thanks?"
"Already installed it in your truck" Emmett said.
"Finally, a decent sound system in that piece of -" "Don't hate the truck. Thank you, Emmett" Bella said cutting him off.
"Open this" Alice hands envelope to Bella.
"Little something to brighten your day" Carlisle said. "You've been looking kind of pale lately"
Bella starts to open it, got a paper cute. "Ouch". A single drop of deep red blood appears. Bella thinks little of it, but then hear a disturbing, grisly Snarl
"Jasper, Jasper you're ok!" Amir panicked as Jasper let go of his hand and lunges toward her. Teeth bared, eyes beyond reason. Edward flings Bella behind his own body, causing her to crash into the table, plates shattering as Jasper slams into Edward; sounds like boulders colliding.
Edward pushes him, hard; Jasper sails backward, hitting the wall. But he ricochets off it and comes back at Bella. Emmett and Carlisle tackle Jasper from the side, Alice helps hold him down
"Jasper shushes. Jasper it's ok it just a little... blood" Alice said, but she stops, her head suddenly jerking toward Bella. Then everybody's eyes snap toward Bella as they catch the overwhelming scent on Bella lying amid the shards of broken China. She looks at her arm, seeing now it's been slashed by plate shards, bright red blood pulses out of her, pooling.
Amir tries to help them hold Jasper back. She looks up all of them now, including Edward stare down at her, at her blood, with fevered eyes. Six suddenly ravenous vampires as Carlisle jumps to Bella's side. Edward, though white as a bone, snaps out of it and stands between her and the others.
"Emmett, get Jasper out of here" Carlisle said to Emmett. Emmett reins himself in, elbows Rosalie. Amir let them drag the snarling Jasper out. Esme holds her nose, politely exits with the others.
Alice looks at Bella, apologetic " I'm sorry, I... can't... " She slips out the door. Edward's still on guard as Carlisle examines Bella's arm. Edward snarl at Amir protectively. Amir roll his eyes.
"I'm not even a vampire so stop being overly protective" Amir said walking around him to help Carlisle.
"I'll have to stitch this up in my off" Carlisle said. "Check on Jasper. I'm sure he very upset at himself and I doubt anyone about this but you right now. Edward" Edward walks off.
"I'll clean up this the blood on the floor. Just take her to your office or something" Amir said.
"Thank you" Carlisle said carrying Bella off. Amir whip down all the blood and bleach the spots. Throwing the paper towels in the fire.
Amir walks off to where Carlisle at seeing Bella sitting on the table opposite Carlisle removing the glass shards from her arm. Amir lean on the door. Carlisle drops one into a bowl. She tries not to look at the blood.
"How do you do it?" Bella asked.
"Years and years of practice" Carlisle said. "Did you ever think of... Just doing things the easy way?"
"No, I knew what I wanted to be. I wanted to Help people. Brings happiness. Even if I am damned" Carlisle said stitching her arm.
"Damned? Like Hell?" Bella said. "Carlisle, you couldn't be dammed. It's impossible"
"Thank you Bella you always been gracious about us" Carlisle said finishing helping her.
"So, that's it? That's why he won't change me" Bella said.
"Imagine the situation on our best. He believe as everyone does. Could you take away his soul" Carlisle said lighting the blood on fire.
"I'm getting tired. I'm going to go home now. Bella I'll see you at home. Carlisle tell Jasper that it's not his fault. And tell Alice if she could talk to me" he said.
"Of course. Have a good night" Carlisle said. He walks out the house to his car and drives off back home. This day been a disaster.
