Chapter 13

Brother

Umalis ako ng kusina pagkatapos ng eksena namin ni Chase roon. I don't want to overreact or something but why did he say that? I meant, bakit naman ako magseselos? He ain't my boyfriend and probably would never be.

"Saan ka galing?" ani Yohan.

Umupo ako sa tabi niya at nilangoy ang paa ko sa swimming pool. Ang lamig! Makulimlim sa labas at mukhang uulan pa.

"Kitchen," sagot ko.

"Oh ba't nando'n din 'yung isa?" sumilay ang ngisi sa labi niya.

Kumunot ang noo ko at tumingin sa likod ko kung saan tumingin din si Yohan. I saw Chase who went outside the house and took a glass of beer. What? They are drinking?! Tita Bernadette will see them!

"Hoy, ba't kayo umiinom? Mahuhuli kayo ni tita!" I scolded him.

"Chill, Seah! We're eighteen! And besides, Chase is twenty-one so there's no problem," aniya.

My eyes widened. Really?! Chase is what? Twenty-one?!

"Yeah. Hindi mo alam?" tanong niya.

"Ay, sorry, sa Manila ka pala nakatira." Tumawa siya.

I rolled my eyes.

"He has a younger brother. Dapat magco-college na siya but due to financial problems, hininto niya muna ng dalawang taon for his brother to study," Yohan explained.

I feel a little bit emotional. Chase Claude Ocampo is truly a respected man and I'm so proud of him.

"Chase never regretted that decision," sabi niya pa. "He said, he's more thankful that he stopped studying for two years because that's how he met us."

"Wow. I never thought that is Chase's story," I said.

Ngumisi si Yohan. "You know, he's more thankful that someone in his life came, he's motivated by her every day," he said, referring to someone.

That person is extremely lucky. She might have a person that is willing to pour tears for her.

Umalis ako sa tabi ni Yohan at pumunta sa medyo sulok na parte ng pool. Walang tao roon at medyo mafe-feel ko ang lamig ng tubig na galing sa pool. Maya-maya lang ay naramdaman kong may tumabi sa akin.

"Seah," he called me.

Lumingon ako kay Chase na tumabi sa akin. Umupo siya malapit sa akin at nilagay din ang paa niya sa swimming pool.

"Hmm?"

"Sorry about earlier," aniya.

"Lasing na yata ako." He chuckled too.

Ngumisi ako. "Nah, it's fine. Ayan kasi, inom kayo nang inom."

He chuckled.

"Yohan told me about you. You skipped two years of studying and you are supposed to be college now, right?"

Kinamot niya ang batok niya at tumango. "Oo."

I smiled at him. "I know, there's many people saying this to you but, I'm proud of you, Chase."

Umiling siya. "Ikaw pa lang nagsabi n'yan."

Medyo nagulat ako sa sinabi niya. I am the only one who said that? Even his family didn't say anything about that? Napilitan siyang ngumiti at inalis ang tingin sa akin.
