Six months later...

I sit in the chair in Namjoon’s office as my sister puts the finishing touches on my makeup.

I’m pretty good at applying it myself, but there’s something sentimental about her doing it for me. I’m a sucker for sentimental. She used to do my makeup all the time when I was a kid, painting kitty faces on me with eyeliner. She also did my makeup for one of my first school dances. Now here we are, years later, and she’s doing my makeup again, this time for my wedding day.

My mom and Jimin are sitting on the sofa off to the side, gossiping with each other. They hit it off as well as Jimin and I did, which makes perfect sense considering how alike my mother and I are.

I remember telling my mom when Jungkook proposed. We had only known each other just a couple of months, and my divorce had only barely been finalized, so I was terrified of telling her about it. I was so relieved when Namjoon and the guys discussed it and agreed I could let my mom and my sister in on their world. It was now such a huge part of my life; it was only fair that the people closest to me got to be in on the secret too.

Flashback

I pull into the driveway of the estate with my mom in tow. My nerves are absolutely shot. She’s been quiet the whole way, taking in my obviously tense demeanor. We’ve always been close, my mother and I, so I feel like she can read me like a book. I have no idea how she’s going to take the onslaught of news she’s about to receive, but I know it has to be done. Sooner rather than later, considering how short JK and I plan our engagement to be.

“So, this is where you’ve been staying? It’s definitely haunted...” she says as we get out of the car. It breaks the tension a little. That is very typical of my mother. I wouldn’t be surprised if she brings an infrared thermometer or something next time she comes. Hopefully, her obvious love for all things supernatural will make this a little easier.

I walk mom through the front door and bring her through the living room. None of the guys were here yet. They wanted to give me a chance to tell her everything first before throwing seven strangers into the mix. The truth is already overwhelming enough.

“It’s beautiful in here. Are these antiques?” she asks, inspecting some artwork on the wall. I laugh and sit down, gesturing for her to join me.

“So...” I start, not really knowing where to begin.

“So...” she repeats in the same tone, a hint of a smile on her face. “Does this have something to do with that pretty purple sapphire sitting on your left hand?”

My eyes grow twice their size, and I refuse to make eye contact with her. Didn’t really think she’d notice that right off the bat, but she always has been pretty observant.

“Yes, but there’s more,” I say, not wanting to start with my engagement.

“Did you leave Brandon for one of these men you’re staying with?” she asks softly, placing a hand over my own. I find no judgment in her eyes at all, which eases my heart. This is my mom I’m talking to. She’s loved me since before I was born. I shouldn’t be scared to tell her these things. I smile at her and squeeze her hand back.

“I guess I should start by saying that I didn’t lie. Bran and I DID divorce because he cheated. He had been having an affair for over a year. Our relationship had been on the rocks long before then, so really, that was just the final straw, but I didn’t end things with him for one of the guys, no.”

“But you’re still with one of them, are you not?”

I smile a little. She saw right through me. “Yes, I am. But let me tell you a story first...”
