Warnings: Bit of Fluff! Canon Typical Violence! Slow Burn!

Steve woke to the sound of his alarm going off. Turning it off you he slowly climbed out of bed stretching out his back.

He had considered getting up later than usual today but ultimately decided against it. You were away on a mission currently and were due back by early lunchtime. The two of you having plans to meet up after your mission.

Steve thought that if he woke up later he'd be able to kill some time before you got back. But then he realised that he wouldn't be able to go on his morning run like he normally does.

Steve preferred going early in the morning when people were still asleep. The loud noises of the city not disturbing him, not having to weave his way through people on their way to work. Getting dressed and putting on his own specially made running shoes, curtesy of Tony Stark when he found out how many trainers Steve went through, he made his way out the door.

He decided to take a different running route today. One through the parks and monuments in DC. He'd already done a couple laps when he saw another man out running the same route.

Out of curtesy since Steve ran so fast he warned the guy as he passed "on your left"

As Steve continued his run the sun continued to rise. He ended up passing the same man a couple times. Telling him he was on his left each time.

"On your left" Steve says passing by.

"Uh huh, on my left, got it" the man groans slightly making steve chuckle.

The more Steve passed the man the more of a game it became. As he passed the Lincoln memorial he approached the man again.

"Don't you say it, Don't you say it" the man warns.

"On your left" Steve repeats running past him and further down the reflection pool.

Steve eventually slows to a stop when he sees the man sat up against a tree panting heavily. His dark skin covered in a sheen of sweat.

"Need a medic?" Steve asks as he walks over.

The man laughs looking over at Steve "I need a new set of lungs. Dude you just ran like 13 miles in 30 minutes" the man says.

Steve gives him a small shrug of the shoulders "guess I got a late start" he quips.

"Really? You should be ashamed of yourself. You should take another lap" the man chuckles pointing over to the path.

"Did you just take it? I assume you just took it" the man says making Steve smile.

"What unit you with?" Steve asks noticing the military logo on the man's jumper.

"58th pararescue, but now I'm working down at the VA" the man explains.

He then holds up his hand "Sam Wilson" he says.

Steve grabs hold of his hand helping him up "Steve Rogers" he replies.

"I kind of put that together" Sam says bending over slightly still panting as he rose to his full height.

"Must have freaked you out, coming home after the whole defrosting thing" he continues

Steve sighs before looking over at him "it takes some getting used to" he agrees.

"It's good to meet you Sam" he adds before turning to leave.

"It's your bed right?" Sam calls out making Steve turn back around.

"What's that?" He questions not catching what Sam said.

"Your bed, it's too soft. When I was over there I slept on the ground, use rocks for pillows like a caveman. Now I'm home lying in my bed and it's like..." Sam says trailing off at the end.
