When you got the call from Steve about Fury you raced straight to the hospital. When you got there Fury was still in surgery. As soon as you walked in Steve hugged you tightly.

"Are you okay what happened?" You ask him pulling away enough to look up at him.

"I'm fine, I don't know I got home, and he was just there, we barely spoke before the shooter got him" Steve tells you shaking his head slightly.

You could tell he wasn't telling you everything though, but you decided not to question him considering the circumstances. You turn back to the window watching as the surgeons operated on Fury, trying to save his life.

"Jesus Christ Nick" you sigh shaking your head.

Steve wraps his arm around you pulling you into his side. His hand gently and soothingly rubbing your side helping to calm your nerves.

"It's gonna be okay, he's a tough one" Steve sighs as you rest your head against him.

An hour into surgery later Nat appears running into the room to stand beside you and Steve.

"Is he gonna make it?" She asks not taking her eyes off Fury.

"I don't know" you sigh shaking your head.

"Tell me about the shooter" Nat asks looking up at Steve.

"He's fast, strong. Had a metal arm" Steve tells her with a sigh.

Maria then steps into the room coming to stand next to Nat.

"Ballistics?" Nat asks her.

"3 slugs. No rifling. Completely untraceable" Maria sighs.

"Soviet made?" Nat questions as if she already knew the answer.

"Yeah" Maria says quietly looking over at Nat surprised.

She didn't get to question it further as alarms start to go off in the operating room. You watch in horror as the surgeons start moving quickly bringing in different machines to try and revive Fury. Your body begins to shake as you watch them repeatedly try and find a pulse.

Unable to watch anymore you step away from the window hugging yourself tightly as you try and stop yourself from crying. You feel Steve's arms wrap around you and you completely lose it sobbing into his chest. Once again losing someone close to you.

The sun was just beginning to rise when you were allowed into the room where Nick was to say your goodbyes.

You and Steve went together, Steve still holding your hand as you approached Nick. You gently put a hand on Nick's shoulder trying not to recoil at the cold sensation. You weren't as close to him as Nat and Maria were, but he was the one who gave you a chance in this new world. Helped you build a life here, gave you a job and apartment. He went above and beyond for you.
