Warnings: Angst! Language! Secretary Ross!

The month following the incident in Lagos was a quiet one for the team. For the first week, everyone stuck to themselves as you all came to terms with what happened. Everyone wondered what they could have done differently. There was a ban on watching the news, and the constant news coverage in the first week wasn't helping anyone. Social media was also a no-go, with lots of people voicing their dislike and distrust towards the team.

Wanda had also closed herself off again. No matter how hard you tried you couldn't get through to help her. The only person seemingly making progress being vision.

Steve was sitting at his desk watching the news coverage from a UN meeting where the King of Wakanda condemned the actions of the team. A fresh wave of guilt crashed over him as he watched but no matter how much he wanted to, he couldn't turn it off.

"Stop that," you say walking into his office when you heard what he was watching.

"I know I just-" he sighs as you walk over and place your hands on his shoulders.

"It's hard not to" you finish looking up at the screen.

"Victory at the expense of the innocent is no victory at all," the king said as you grabbed the remote and turned the screen off.

"We can't change the past remember," you tell him rubbing his shoulders.

He nods his head looking up over his shoulder at you, placing a hand on top of yours as a sign of gratitude. When the room went silent Steve could faintly hear the sound of the news coverage continuing in another room. He instantly knew exactly who it was, the only person that blames themselves more than he did.

"Wanda" he sighs getting up from his seat.

You follow him down the corridor towards Wanda's room where you find her watching the news, her name being specifically mentioned by the news reader. Steve finds the remote and turns the TV off stopping her from punishing herself more.

"It's my fault," she says her voice cracking.

"That's not true," you tell her softly.

"Turn the TV back on they're being very specific," she says glancing over at you.

"I should've clocked that bomb vest long before you had to deal with it," Steve tells her as the two of you walk over to her bed, sitting down on either side of her.

"Rumlow said Bucky and all of a sudden I was a 16-year-old kid again in Brooklyn" Steve sighs glancing over at you before looking at the floor "and people died, it's on me"

"It's on both of us," Wanda says shaking her head.

Steve sighs before glancing over at you. Watching as you rubbed Wanda's back soothingly, remembering how you talked him down a month prior. What you told him grounding him and helping him move on as best as he could.

"This job... we try to save as many people as we can, sometimes that doesn't mean everybody but if we can't find a way to live with that then next time... maybe nobody gets saved," he says glancing over at you, a small reassuring smile on your lips.

Wanda glances over at you and nods her head slightly as she takes a shaky breath. She goes to say something but gets interrupted by Vision walking through the wall making you all jump.

"Vis! We talked about this" Wanda says scolding him gently.

"Yes, but the door was open so I assumed that," Vision said pointing to the door before stopping "Captain Rogers wished to know when Mr Stark was arriving"
