This morning was different. There was no coffee. The birds weren't chirping. And it was starting to get cold. We were also packing up all of our things. Carl and Sage were pissed at Rick and I. Rick tried to reach out to them, but they both ignored him. Glenn said he had ever seen them this mad before. It's easy to forget that they are still kids, sometimes.
Rick takes a sweep around the prison, one last time.
"We're ready." I say, as he meets me at the bottom of the stairs.
"I'm not sure I am." he says.
"Why?" I ask.
"So many memories here, with us. Judith was born here." Rick says. I grab his arm and lean my head against it as we walk out. It was quiet. All you could hear was our boots hitting the floor as we walked.
Michonne joins us and thanks Rick for taking her in that day.
"It was Carl, Sage, and Luna who made the call. They said you're one of us." Rick says. "Riley, too."
She smiles at me. I smile back. "Thank you, Luna."
"I know a good person when I see one. Plus, you're damn good with that sword." I say, laughing.
The Governor was coming today. We all knew it. It was bound to happen. In this world, walkers were always going to be a problem.... but the people left in it would be the worst. The Governor rolls in with his "army." They blow up a couple of the guard towers, tear through the fence, and shoot up the place. They walk in and expect to find us there, but we aren't. They go down into the tombs, hearing sounds. Explosions start to go off, and the alarm is blaring. Hershel, Carl, Sage, and Beth are hiding in the woods, not too far away. Maggie and Glenn were there, hiding. They were shooting at the Governor's people once they came out from the prison, catching them off guard. "We did it!" Maggie yells, as the Governor's people flee.
Two young men from the Governor's group are running in the woods, stumbling upon Carl, Sage, Hershel, and Beth.
Carl, Sage, and Hershel aim their guns towards them.
"Whoa. Don't shoot."
"Drop the weapons, boys." Hershel says.
"Sure." One says. The other says, "Take it." lowering both of their weapons to Carl and Sage. Sage and Carl look at each other. They both shoot the two men in the head, leaving them both dead.
Maggie, Glenn, Daryl, Carol, Rick and I gather outside of the prison.
"We did it. We drove them out." Rick says.
"We should go after them." Michonne says.
"We should finish it." Daryl says.
"It is finished." I say.
"Didn't you see them high tail it out of here?" Maggie says.
"They could regroup." Michonne says.
"We can't take the chance. He's not gonna stop." Glenn says.
"They're right. We can't keep living like this." Carol says.
"So we take the fight back to Woodbury?" Maggie asks.
"You barely made it back last time." I say.
"I don't care." Daryl says.
"Yeah...." Rick says. "Let's check on the others."
Beth comes out holding Judith, with Carl and Sage not far behind.
We smile at Judith, "Hey sweet girl." as Rick kisses her little forehead. We bend down to Sage and Carl to hug them, extra tight.
