Chapter 72 - At the lake

Moody was followed by Remus, as they walked down the stairs from Dumbledore's office. I turned around to them when I heard Moody's annoyed sigh. „Remus, I already told you. She is going to be fine!" Moody told him, but Remus walked after him and clearly wasn't happy with Dumbledore's decision.

„B-but he can't just expel her for being related to someone, that - he knows - isn't even guilty!"

I stepped towards them and Moody quickly rushed behind me, like he was trying to hide from my boyfriend. „Come with me" I just stated towards Remus and he stopped talking and looked at me with sadness in his eyes. I nodded towards Moody before we left and he went back into his quarters. I quickly found the empty herbology classroom and lead him inside. This day was without any classes and the weather was good, so many students were outside and as I had hoped we were alone. I sat down on one of the tables and let out a sigh before I spoke.

„Dumbledore told me, that I'll be able to continue studying to become an Auror...he didn't tell me how or where, but he wants to speak with me about that tomorrow morning..." I told Remus, who slowly walked up to me and sat down on the chair in front of me. It looked odd seeing the tall man, sit down on the small students chair, but I just looked down at my dangling feet, when I continued to tell him, what Dumbledore had asked of me.

„H-he also said..." I paused to find the right words. „...that the Ministry is interested in me becoming an Auror."

„That is great!" Remus said to the news, but my reaction made him eye me suspiciously, knowing something bad was connected to it. „What do they want from you?"

„They want me to help them find Sirius" I stated and looked down at my feet. „I won't, of course. And Moody said this could even help Sirius, since I can lead them away from him, but...but something feels off about this" I stated truthfully. „It seems like Dumbledore has a plan for me...something he isn't telling me..."

Remus placed his hand on my knee to comfort me. „Dumbledore is an mysterious old man and barely ever tells you his plans. I don't think we have to worry..." He said and I lifted my head to look into his eyes. „Look, you can still become an Auror and help Sirius by giving false information to the Ministry."

„But what if they find out about this and figure out that I am on my brother's side?" I asked him, still unsure. He stood up and lifted my face up by placing his fingers under my chin. „I won't let anything happen to you. I can help you and if anything should get dangerous for you or Sirius, I'll be there."

I wrapped my arms around his waist and pulled him closer for a hug. He immediately wrapped his arms around me swell and stroke over my head. After awhile he parted our bodies and planted a kiss on the top of my head and whispered „I'll always be there."

I lifted my head and he lowered his head to my lips and kissed me. His hands cupped my face and he stroke over my cheek, causing me to flinch, reminding me of my hidden wound. He immediately removed his lips and looked at me worried.

„I-I am sorry" I stuttered and hated myself for forgetting about this and letting him notice. „I- I just wanted to say that I am sorry for not telling you earlier about Sirius..." I told him. It felt good to openly talk to him about my for so long hidden relation to Sirius. And even if I never had been sure about it, I could have told him about all the hints and worries, I had always felt guilty for not telling him about that. And now I had a new secret I needed to keep from him...

„I was worried t-that you would..." I swallowed hard „That you couldn't love me anymore. I mean, at that time we both didn't know about his innocence and I-"

Remus interrupted me gently and comforted me, when I was close to tears of guilt. „Maeve, even if he would have been guilty, it wouldn't have changed anything about my feelings for you... Nothing will"
