Chapter 40 | Christmas

After I came out of the shower I wrapped myself up in a towel with the Ravenclaw symbol on it. I picked out a dark blue corduroy dress and put a white turtleneck under it. I chose to wear thighs and knee socks, since it would be probably a bit cold in the great hall. I put on a little bit of makeup and dried my hair with a charm, before I went downstairs. When I passed the common room and walked down the moving stairs I heard someone scream my name. I looked around and saw Harry waving me, he was already on the floor and I walked towards him.

"Hey Harry" I greeted him with a smile. We haven't seen each other for a longer time, since I spent most time in the common room, the library or with Remus. He was the only one of my friends stayed in Hogwarts. Honestly, I kinda had tried to avoid him as much as possible without being rude, because I was afraid that he would guess that something was going on with Remus. I trusted Harry and he knew that I had feelings for Remus, but since I was in sort of a relationship with him, it felt more secret. It wasn't only my secret anymore, this could ruin him, so I needed to be more careful and I was really bad at lying.

"Hi Maeve. Do you want to sit with me?" He asked when we started walking towards the great hall.

"Yes, of course" i replied.

"Brilliant!" He stated and i couldn't help but smile. We continued walking down the corridor and stopped in front of the open doors that lead into the hall. Not many students were sitting at the tables and huge Christmas trees were standing at the end of the hall and the ceiling looked like snow was falling down from it. The hall was covered with candles that looked like stars and were giving of a beautiful dimmed light. I couldn't stop myself from looking towards the teachers table, where Remus was already sitting and he looked at Harry and me when we walked in. He smiled and nodded towards us. He was already being much more professional than I was in this whole situation, I felt my cheeks heating up and tried to hide the blush. I damned myself for still letting him have such an impact on me. I was behaving like it was the first time that he smiled at me. Before Harry could notice it I walked up the Gryffindor table and Harry went after me. We sat down next to some other students of the house, the only one I knew was Oliver Wood. I sat down next to him and smiled at him, Harry sat down on the other side of the table.

I listened to Harry's and Oliver's conversation about quidditch training. They stopped talking when Dumbledore stood up and walked in front of their table to hold his speech. He was saying the usual words and welcomed us to the feast, I tried my best to keep my eyes off of Remus. But every time the made their way towards him I found him already looking at me. He was looking over his drink and I swear that he was winking towards me. When he did that I was drinking my pumpkin juice and nearly choked on it, because I wasn't able to handle this flirtatious action of him. Harry looked at me confused and I just nodded to assure him that I was alright. When I looked back at Remus he tried to hide the amusement he found in my clumsiness. I would definitely pay it back. 

With an opening gesture from the headmaster all kinds of food appeared on the tables in front of us and we started eating and talking. At first I joined the conversation of Harry and Oliver about quidditch and Harry told him about the upcoming quidditch World Cup, we would be watching. When I finished my dinner I carefully took out a small bottle and let the liquid slide in my drink. None of the teachers noticed it, but Harry saw me putting the bottle away.

"What's that?" He asked.

"Nothing for children" I answered with a smile and Oliver turned around with curiosity in his eyes.

"I'm in" he stated and smirked and I took the bottle out again.

"You sure? It's pretty strong" I asked him again and he nodded. So I filled his glass with the liquor.
