"Aren't you a busy man, Jotaro?" I asked, wearing a bright smile as I watched him sit down with two vanilla cones.
He grumbled. "Quite busy." My smile faded quickly.
Was I a huge burden to him? Did he find something so trivial to be too time-consuming?
"But I love sweet things," He said, his voice bland and monotone. His words were doubtful, but still reassuring to hear.
I licked lightly at my ice cream, humming in delight with each taste. It was truly magical. The organic, vanilla flavor blessing my tastebuds with its excellency was always such a treat. I could never become tired of such a thing. And to share this moment with the one you love... I nearly squealed from excitement. I'd never been happier.
Jotaro watched as I danced in my seat, having a great time all on my own. A small smile appeared on his face as he ate his own ice cream.
"By the way," I began, resting my cone on the table carefully. "I loved the way you said 'ice cream'."
His brows scrunched as he set down his own dessert. "Aisukurīmu?"
I closed my eyes, nodding with a small smile. "Yeah, your deep voice makes it sound so... well..." I opened my eyes and looked down at my hands, quite ashamed of what I was about to say. "...naughty."
He sighed. "Good grief," He grumbled. "You seriously are way too needy."
"That's not true!" I pouted. "It's you who can't keep your hands to yourself!"
My hand quickly covered my mouth, my eyes wide as my mind raced. What did I just say?! I'm such an idiot!
"Oh?" The right side of his mouth curled upward just barely. "Is that a problem?"
I looked toward the wall beside me with a deep frown. "I don't know. You just... you're super experienced, but I've never done stuff like that, so..."
Suddenly, Jotaro's scent spiked my nose for less than a second. I looked at him, my mouth slightly open in shock.
"Did your... heart just stop for a moment?" I asked, leaning toward him in interest.
He grumbled, "Yeah."
Oh, no, I thought. If that's what happened when his heart skipped a beat... then he must know when it happens to me. Which is... almost every minute I'm with him.
I leaned back in my chair shamefully. I couldn't believe that he knew the whole time. Although he was a tough character, I thanked him for saving me the embarrassment and not saying anything. Unlike me, who pointed it out immediately.
Oh, I'm such an idiot...
My eyes began to tear, and he looked jolted his head in my direction, quickly leaning over the table, his hand on my shoulder within a second.
"What happened? Do you feel sick? Is the ice cream too cold?" He panicked, shaking my shoulder as I tried to calm myself before answering.
I shook my head. "I'm so sorry, Jotaro, I wasn't considerate toward your feelings," I apologized, more tears coming to my eyes.
His hand left my shoulder as he let out a long, tired sigh. "Good grief," He mumbled. "Don't cry over such foolish things."
His words only made things worse. A big tear dripped down from my right eye, streaming down my face and dripping onto my lap.
"You're so kind and think about every little thing, while I just went and said something like that. And I lied to you earlier," I cried, more tears escaping my flooding eyes. He sat silently as I let out my nonsense. "Mrs. Matsuda didn't say anything about ice cream. I bet she loves it. Who would believe that, anyway? Everyone loves mochi. But I can't tell you what she actually said. She'll get in trouble, and I'll feel so guilty. I don't want her to get into trouble! She's so nice to me, and-"
At some point, Jotaro had moved into the seat beside me and had taken my ice cream... had begun to eat it. I looked at him with mascara spilled all around my eyes and wet, red, puffy cheeks.
"Are you eating my ice cream?" I asked. He licked it as he nodded. "You can't do that, you jerk."
As I reached out to take it, I quickly covered my mouth again. "I'm so sorry," I gasped. "I'm so sorry, I shouldn't have called you a jerk," I cried, many more tears falling to my lap. "You're really the best person in the world! I mean it! You're not a jerk! You're actually pretty awesome!" I gave up on taking back my ice cream as I kept apologizing.
Jotaro pushed the dessert in front of my exhausted face. "Here. Eat it. I forgive you, so eat your ice cream."
I looked up at him, but his eyes wouldn't meet mine. They were staring at the table, his white hat covering most of his face. But I could see his blushed ear, the deep red making me smile a bit. I wouldn't mention it.
